With about 2 hours before the fight I am calling this... Georges St-Pierre by TKO in the 4th round !:] I would think Shields could go the distance as a great athlete... but 'RUSH' St-Pierre has a great "pound for pound" ground-and-pound! It was great to see the last title bout St-Pierre had against Koscheck (124) but 'Kosh' made the ultimate bad-guy.... but commanded respect even in the loss to 'RUSH'.

NOW, as the clock sits I have about 1 hour and a half to realize the Canadian VICTORY...
I am not saying that this show-down will be easy... but GSP has trained long and hard, and is a true competitor, and even a better gentleman... and he really respects Shields as a dangerous opponent...
but as GSP says... he does his talking inside the octagon!

"St-Pierre has won seven-straight matches over a four-year span. Along the way, he's won 30-straight rounds, an unheard of stat in MMA. Shields, in significantly less spotlight, has won a whopping 15 consecutive bouts over the last five years, claiming titles in both Strikeforce and Elite XC."

Well, that is it for now... I hope it isn't "CROW" for supper tonight !:]
Back later with an update....

I must admit I make a better looser than a winner... even in the smallest of games and competitions I am such a poor winner, gloating and being so childish with my wagers. GSP and Shields go toe-to-toe... battling and bruising, while spectators make childish bets and claims... as if they were the ones that really put out the effort and the risk. WELL, it didn't play like I said... "Georges St-Pierre by TKO in the 4th round" ...GSP took it alright... but after going the distance, and by decision!

I didn't even watch the fight... we have a new baby in our home and that took priority, so I had to find out by the news. I was chomping on the bit to find out who won... but I purposely waited until after a message from Charles Stanley, to find out if I was eating crow... chicken... or duck... for lunch today... it didn't seem that important after the message I listened to. Actually I felt somewhat immature for my pre-brag on GSP but, chances are I will do it again.

12 months ago: "The headline fight was a UFC Welterweight Championship match, pitting the defending champ, Georges St. Pierre, against Jake Shields. St. Pierre certainly did not disappoint and showed himself to be dominant throughout the match, landing a number of blows that left Shields stunned. St. Pierre also fought smart, keeping his distance and staying off the ground in order to avoid any potential submission holds from Shields. Ultimately, Shields managed to stay in the fight all the way through only to lose by an obvious decision."

12 months ago: I got to watch it and up until GSP's eye injury in the 2nd round, it appeared that it was only a matter of time before Jake Shields was taken out. After the eye injury (he couldn't see out of the eye from what he told his corner), it looked like a tentative sparring match and the boo birds started chiming in but Jake Shields was obviously outclassed. GSP apologized after the match.

The best moment of the night was the Lyoto Machida snap kick KO to seal Randy Couture's retirement - see the moving GIF image here (2nd image down):

12 months ago: Thanks Mark,

I think we are going to see many more front face-kicks... since Silva is a master of them, he has set a trend that seems quite effective! Many have used them... but not to the KO quality that we are seeing recently.
12 months ago: I am still over my head in diapers and baby caring... I might get to see the fight yet.. but you are right... that was a spectacular kick... It wouldn't have mattered even if Randy did see it coming !:]
12 months ago: GSP did a good job fighting with only one eye... and had to work for the win. St. Pierre was busted up a little more than shields... but one thing was GSP had incredible striking power from his jab, and his kicks lifted Shields right off the mat!

A while back I was talking about a fighter that had his arm in a Comora... bent way back and refused to tap-out... after escaping the hold went on to win... I finally found out who that was Ben Henderson! Another great fight beating Mark Bocek.
