"Gas Hydrate: A Realistic Future Source"

Gas Hydrates or Methane Ice has been estimated to be a greater source of energy than all sources of oil & gas combined. The problem is that (before now) Gas Hydrates releases many times the CO2 than Natural Gas. With today's new technology, ie..Swapsol, the worlds viable energy reserves could grow exponentially. I offer these websites for your review:

There is also a lot of methane percolating out of the thawing permafrost. How can we harvest this before it gets into the atmosphere where it is 23 times more potent than CO2 as a GHG?
Now that the oceans are getting hotter the methane is bubbling up spontaneously. http://initforthegold.blogspot.com/2009/08/fire-and-ice-big-badaboom.html
If you attempt to drill near a deposit there is a chance that the whole mess will go off all at once. It is like a field full of mousetraps each loaded with 3 ping pong balls that will fly up when that trap is sprung.
32 months ago: Check out this news release from the DOE

While we are at it... What about the possibility of H2S as a source of hydrogen? AND consuming CO2 in the process!

32 months ago: jon00052, good to see a wide varieties of ideas are being put into play. Unfortunately we have ideologically constrained 'solar-ganic' types who don't like any type of energy that has gas or nuclear in the name.
32 months ago: co2 my hind end.
NUTS!
32 months ago: Thanks Mark, This just sunk in to me: It looks like a company called Great Point Energy has a way of turning water into energy. Correct me somebody please, acording to their website their formula as posted looks like they are using water as a oxidizer resulting in methane. Part from H2o and part from coal. Chemist I am not! but check this out. It sure looks like they are able to convert water and coal to methane.
