It is funny how things can change in a blink of an eye sometimes, and then in other instances, things have such trouble changing, that it changes so little in so long of a time that after a while you don't really notice that things changed at all. There are vast amounts of things like this. Most of those things that change like this are often so simple, and yet have a profound effect when seen over time.
A recent gallop poll was done, tracing the amounts of acceptance of gay relationships and compared the statistics done with a similar test done in both 2006 and 2009. The values of these numbers changed frequently, and when seen from goal post to goal post, the statistics say that the acceptance is increasing. And yet, due to the slow changes, sometimes we don't notice the smaller changes that can mean so much more then end results.
The statistics showed a 4 year gap and the results were somewhat good. Accross the board when comparing 2006 to 2010 the numbers were up.
This is well enough, but there were some surprising numbers shown that were ignored that show a difference between 2009 and 2010.
Democrats went down 1 point, while republican went up by 6.
When comparing conservatives and liberals, the conservatives went up by 3 points, while the liberals went down by 3 points.
When comparing religious beliefs, Protestants went up by 6 points, and Catholics went up by two. While a group marked only as "other Non-christian" went down by 1 point and No Religion went down by %3.
I wonder what can account for this. What is it that has happened last year that brought the enemies closer and older friends further away?
Why is it that the churches are suddenly shosing a slight growth this year, and the non religious seem to back off somewhat? This is a puzzle to me.
The really bizzre one was the sudden flip of consefvative growth versus liberal decline. What would make a liberal more conservative, and a conservative more liberal?
The trend is a slow and steady climb, but it is those small changes that really hit home sometimes. This to me is one of those times. The fact that the drops are all fairly small could on normal circumstances be ignored and left alone. The fact that the exact opposite of what would normally be expected has occurred is far too coincidental to ignore.
Maybe I am just over reading, and maybe I making a coincidence to be something more than it is. I would like to hear some opinions on this one.
