Editor, BBC Network Africa has a great article today about the first five ladies of power in Africa.
"Listening to Sierra Leone's Sia Koroma, Namibia's Penehupifo Pohamba, Ghana's Ernestina Mills, Zambia's Thandiwe Banda, and Uganda's Janet Museveni, the most striking thing is that these women care deeply about the condition of society."
They talk of promoting education, eradicating poverty, rural development and fighting aids. Some are teachers and some medical professionals.
It is wonderful to see what women can do in this world. Not only can they be caregivers, they are leaders too. Setting examples that many could learn from. Lifting up each other, stretching out a helping hand, caring about people.
In my recent post about fairtrade, Altruist commented, and I quote."In third world countries, women do most of the work. Education empowers the women, who are more concerned with their families than the men. When a man is educated he often leaves the community to work somewhere and rarely sends anything home. When a woman is educated she teaches the others in the community."
Truly an inspirational article for women, and men.
