I just found this comment. It sounds too good to be true. I went to the website and it sure looks like they are for real. Does anyone know anything about them?

"Sour crude and sour gas processing have never been economically, particularly given the current economic state of affairs. However, there may be a new option stemming from a previously undiscovered chemical reaction between CO2 and H2S. Called the Stenger-Wasas Process (SWAP), these two compounds may be reacted over a new-found catalyst and converted into water, carbon, and sulfur. It may be worth exploring. www.swapsol.com

33 months ago: Sounds like an interesting process. I'm no scientist so far beyond my puny brain to understand it all but from the jist of it it should be a good deal for the oil and gas industries in their work to help the environment and boost profits.
33 months ago: Solo: Would you settle for extending the life of oil and gas reserves through greater process efficiencies? 40% of the worlds gas fields(and numerous oil fields) are capped and considered to be unprofitable because they are sour. The process makes possible solutions that destroys two Green House Gasses at the same time, producing valuable products that could offset the need for more energy intensive materials. I know that this sounds incredible, but then so did believing that the world could be round or that the earth was Not the center of the universe.
33 months ago: Hey Solo: Just read this article published in "Science Daily" on a Renewable Future Energy Source from the Black Sea H2S. I do not know if you are familiar with H2S. It is one of the GHGs only many times stronger than CO2 in trapping heat.

Black Sea Pollution Could Be Harnessed As Renewable Future Energy Source
ScienceDaily (Mar. 17, 2009) — The Black Sea harbours vast quantities of hydrogen sulfide, the toxic gas associated with the smell of rotten eggs. This noxious gas could be used as a renewable source of hydrogen gas to fuel a future carbon-free economy, according to Turkish researchers writing in a forthcoming issue of the International Journal of Nuclear Hydrogen Production and Applications.

We can't afford to scrap the only affordable energy sources that we currently possess to tilt at windmills, (no pun intended, well, yes it was). I realize that environmentalists have listed solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources as our salvation, but if you can burn something, and not cause pollution, then where's the harm? In the coal gasification, you still have to mine it, but it is a much less polluting form of energy than currently available from coal.

We just can't afford to put all our energy eggs in one basket, and follow some green guru's advice. If his plan doesn't pan out, we need backup plans.

Who knows, the backup plans may turn out to better all around than the primary goals.

33 months ago: Thanks for the links. I can always use more.

I agree, we cannot put all our eggs into one basket.

We can see the problems that technology created over the years. Can you see that there may be consequences in tapping into wind energy? There are reports that local weather patterns are being affected down wind of the wind farms. Don't get me wrong I am for all forms of clean energy, just don't want to see another problem down the road.
33 months ago: jon, if we worried about minor disturbances in the weather patterns downstream from every object we built, there would never be another object placed above the surface of the Earth for fear it would deflect the wind and cause a hurricane. IMO, these are just people grasping at any wild straw they can think of to stop, discourage, make money from, or any other detractor you can think of for wind, solar or sea, power farms.

I wonder how much the weather has been affected by all the hot air opponents of wind farms are generating.....

33 months ago: Hey! BBN

That Backwards crap happens everytime I start to blog about Swapsol, MAgnetic Power (MPI)and other promising technological discoveries. The only one that I have first hand knowledge of is Swapsol. TThey have been guided through the corporate world by some of the best. Check out their Board of Directors, they are some pretty big guns and are well known in their area of expertice. Unless I miss my guess we will start hearing about Swapsol and their processes before this Christmas.

Check out Zero Point Energy!

http://www.energyblogs.com/magneticpower/index.cfm/2009/8/20/4-Steps-to-Revive-the-Auto-Industry--the-Energy-Industry--and-the-Economy

This is another company that I have been following. If these people can bring their invention to market the Energy industries will need Swapsol processes just to be able compete with "free" zero point power.
33 months ago: Jon00052's post: They may only be minor disturbances but tell that to the farmer is affected. Point is there is plenty of nuclear, fodssil, hydro and now fusion and maybe zero point entergy without messing with nature. look at hydro dams were great until we discovered that fish migration was impacting the fish populations.

Ok, I'd like my fusion generator set up in the back yard, tomorrow will be good, or how about that zero point unit, I'll take one of those too, just in case my fusion generator breaks. Oh those cost millions? And they are not ready yet. Well, no problem, I'm sure the government will pay for it for me.

Jon, be realistic. Those technologies are decades away and they will do nothing for the individual. Even the Stirling systems are multi-million dollar units. There is nothing for the individual except solar, wind and hydro and to do hydro, you have to have access to a good stream. I have land, even some wind, but not enough, plenty of sunshine but I don't have money so I'm stuck on the grid.

As for farmers downwind of the turbines, just how much can they really say they have been affected? 5% crop loss, 10%? 50%? Un-determined? I truly believe that they are just guessing that the turbines made the weather change. Kind of like global warming. Lot's of guessing going on, lots of theories being formed, but not one single proof. You can forget about trying to tell me that this and that study "proves" global warming. No one single person can show me a million years of data, if they try, they will see global warming, global cooling, volcanoes, earthquakes, ice ages, droughts, floods, year long winters, year long summers, basically all manner of weather changes, short term and long, and guess what! Man wasn't even burning a drop of oil for 99.999% of that time period (or there about).
33 months ago: Hey sixholdens you make some good points, but please try to be realistic. The data oviously is not available for the future effects of wind power on the enviroment. And I agree on the Global warming issues. One point that I will offer on Global Warming is this: None of the studies or comments that have been made by the experts address this fact, That is the effect of All of the thermal energy released into the environment each year. That should include all sources like Nuclear, Fossil and natural releases such as solar impact, volcano eruption, fires of any kind and geothermal. I know that data of this magnatude is next to impossible to obtain, no to mention the cost of obtaining. The point is that until hard facts can be assesed, Global Warming will remain an opinion issue.
33 months ago: Hey sixholdens, here is another reality check for ya: Some technologies are NOT decades away. I offer this fact there is a hugh increase of activity in the sour gas/oil areana. And this at a time when natural gas markets are at extreme lows. Please offer an explaination as to why so many are announcing multi billion dollar projects? One is $30 B on a gas field that has been drilled and sitting idle since 1966! And please keep in mind all of the new finds recently announced world wide.

If you would like some links to the stories that I refer to I can and will provide.
