English is coming to america.
Now to alot of you this could be classed as a load of cods wallop but me and my family are coming to america.

After reading some of stories on here i thought it only right that we should spend our 2 weeks in the sun in america.
Every little helps lol.
Now i have done the florida disney etc but me,my wife and son are thinking of trying something different.
Perhaps 1 week in one location then the second week in another.

So i was thinking i am bound to recieve some interesting replies if i ask where to go on rantrave.
Washington is out as i have learnt over the last year that it has a high possibility of being full of S hit,Due to the amount of politicians.
Vegas is out i think i would get bored gambling all day everyday.
New york is out as my wife would spend all the money in the designer shops.
We want some history,golf,sun.
I was thinking of a week somewhere like detroit or philly but i have a few weeks to make our minds up.

If any of you have any locations good or bad that we should know of please do tell.
I have even been watchin man v food and diners, drive ins and dives just to get used to big food again lol.

So people if you see a fat opinionated man in dodgy shorts looking like a seafood stick because of sun burn beware as english could be coming to a town near you.

10 months ago: Philly is great, lots of history, tons of fun. The Lowes hotel is perfect.

Living right outside of Philly, I should probably go more often, but I do frequent the bars!
10 months ago: The US is a big place English. Where you go depends most on what part interests you the most. For example if you are interested in seeing some of the natural wonders like Yosemite, The Grand Canyon then you might want to stay on the west coast and take day trips to each location. That way you make the best of each visit.

The same thing applies if you want to see some of the historical places that helped build America. Then you might want to stay on the east coast and take day trips to Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Chicago, etc.

Also Washington DC is not out of the question if you want to see the landmarks. If that is the case and you want to spend some time out in the sun and on a beach. Go to Virginia. You will get your sun and fun their and then take a day trip to see the monuments and landmarks in Washington DC.

All and all remember that there is a lot of places to go and see. More so than you could do so in one trip. So pick one or two spots of interest and have a blast.

A good place to start investigating if you don't know where to start is the Chamber of commerce in each city you are considering. If you call them up and request information they will send you enough pamphlets to wall paper your home with. Have fun with it and let us know how it goes. Godspeed to you and yours English!
10 months ago: Philly looks like it has some good history to it and the bars are a deffinate plus so thanks tom.
Dwayne new york does interest me but it would cost me a fortune as my wife loves handbags and shoes and she will not be able to resist.
I have always wanted to goto central park.
Washington is another that has great history so i do think i will maybe have to have a couple of different holidays to be able to see all of the things i would like to as i dont think i could do it in 2 weeks.
Perhaps one holiday on the east coast and then a seperate one on the west next year.
Great call on the chamber of commerce i will take a look at there websites.
Thanks for the info guys.

9 months ago: Here is where you can get a Texas travel guide. We don't have much to offer...

Beaches, forests, deserts, hill country, plains, mountians.

10 months ago: Cypress Gang is from Texas. Maybe he has some useful information. All I know about Texas is that it is huge and very beautiful. You could spend your whole vacation there and still need more time to see it all.

10 months ago: English if you want to see some really spectacular scenery I would do the grand loop which takes about a week. You will see some of the most beautiful country in the world! This includes Bryce, Zyon, Canyonlands, the Grand Canyon, and many more. I would throw in Mesa Verde and Acoma Pueblo (The Sky City) to give you an insight into Native Americans of the past. http://www.us-parks.com/1-week-grand-cir...

You can usually find good deals to fly in to Las Vegas because they entice people there with special deals to gamble (which I dislike), but they have cheap food, cheap rooms and cheap deals on renting cars. You can start and stop your trip from here and some of the best parks are only a few hours away.

Welcome to the country and enjoy! Use lots of sunscreen.

One caution. This area is best seen in the spring, winter or fall. Summers can literally be deadly, but if you are overweight you will probably stay in the air conditioned car and won't be hiking to the bottom of the grand Canyon (getting back up is the problem).

10 months ago: Chicago is a beautiful city with lots to do. Parks, beaches, theater, concerts, the best shopping in the world (Magnificent Mile), great architecture (you can take boat tours on the river and see the cool old buildings). There are also great sport teams if you are into that sort of thing (Cubs* and White Sox for Baseball, Fire for Soccer/football). Heck, there are even a couple Casinos if you wanted to gamble a little bit (less than Vegas).

*Anyone visiting Chicago in the summer for the first time really should visit Wrigley Field.

10 months ago: Back to Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian Institution is a vacation all in itself. It would take weeks to go through it, I spent five days there and saw about a third of it. Then close by you have Busch Gardens, and a ton of other interesting things to do. But if you really want to have a good time, go to Eastabutchie, Mississippi. They have a store and a ...a... well, they have a store.
10 months ago: thanks for all this info i am trying to take it all in and write the best bits down.
Out, Eastabuchie doesnt sound like my kinda place lol.
I like to atleast have things to do and maybe a golf course so i can slope off while the wife goes shopping.
Al, we were looking at the grand canyon but in england alot of the holidays there you have to goto vegas first and that doesnt really appeal to me.
I want to goto see alcatraz but i have heard that you have to keep your back against the wall in san francisco.
Al, i am only slightly over weight lol i look like a capital D from the side view.
Perfect,Thanks for the comment chicago does certainly appeal to us.

I am going to print these off and ask the boss where she wants to shop.
10 months ago: i think for what we want to see we are going to have to do it over a few trips.
5 trips atleast lol.
Philly is definately gonna be in as i want to see the liberty bell.
i did some coursework on that in my geography exam 20 years ago and still look it up on the net.
I also want to see the philadelphia museam of art so i can try and run up the steps like Rocky did.
I am so unfit i will probably pant all the way to the top then be so out of breath i will fall down them.
But in my mind i will be Rocky for 5 minutes.
As your country is so vast we are going to have to take the trips in stages as i dont want to spend hours on a plane everyday.
