Today with the economy as it is many of us find it hard to get the food to provide for the essential health of ourselves and our children. Until we get through this economy and everyone has food on their table that is sufficient, we still have to be careful of what we take in. If we have to eat less, don't fill up on junk. That saying "an apple a day is true." An apple can be the healthiest food you can eat. Eggs and also oats with some fruit and nuts are a healthy source of protein. Drink lots of water as lack of it can cause tremendous increases in blood pressure.
Simplicity can be the best answer to maintaining health during these difficult times. At one time in America, we could practice taking good care of ourselves. No longer is that an option, so we do what we can with what we have.
People out there write books to make a lot of money, but we have to get back to basics when it comes to diet and not fad dietsor extreme exercise. Anyway, this is from my own experience in what worked for me growing up and getting a good handle on diet, health, and weight control. I had an art teacher in high school in her late 50s who said to her students one day to be careful of weight creeping up on you. Using an example, she said 2 pounds gained a year after a period of time will be difficult to lose when you are older. Made me think, this could mean by the time I am 40 I may weigh an additional 45 or more pounds. Being a teenager in high school at the time, those words impressed me to be conscious of what I ate on a regular basis. As teenagers we try to outdo each other by who could be thinner than the other which made you more popular. Remember those days. Being too thin is a killer and many suffer from the abusiveness at the hands of others and become abnormally underweight or overweight. How many were very, very thin and had people still call them fat, or other degrading words to cast a bad reflection on them. If you don't have a good feeling about who you are, you give in to these antagonizing people who prey on others.
A good diet also promotes healthy looking skin which is another important factor during those young years which gives confidence. It is a contest of survival in high school. Having the smallest waist line for girls in high school using those tight cinch belts which were the fad accentuated this characteristic of being thin. When I was a teenager I was the kind to help my dad in his construction business and not be afraid to get in there and work, even if it meant swinging a hammer on his project sites, I did it. It was the girl's crew and fun. We even help put in our own swimming pool by starting a dig; of course we didn't get very far, so the big machinery came in and did the rest. Let me tell you that is a really good workout for the waist line and abs. Sooner than later you are sporting a 19" waistline and having others envy you. But that isn't what it is about. We can't always go to extremes to keep in shape but simple every day practices can help. Gardening is another way to keep fit being out in the air and sunshine, moving around, bending or stooping down gets the metabolism going and makes you think less about food while the hours pass by unnoticed as you are occupied and burning calories. You get a nice tan and glow about yourself, too. Anything simple helps an individual maintain a good feeling of well being, such as taking a daily walk or going to a gym for an hour of "me time" makes you feel good about yourself. Taking the kids to a park, lake or pool to burn off energy is great, and we all get the benefit of the rewards from that. The idea is never to stop moving or become sedentary because that is the beginning of the end. Your daily exercise routine is important. Once you stop, you are in trouble, and it is hard to get back that lost time. Look to prevent illness. Diabetes can be caused by inactivity. Becoming fatigue, migraines and so on is brought about by inactivity. Kids watching too much television can cause inactivity so get them off the couch.
It is an important factor to start off on the right foot in those growing years for young children. It is up to the parents to provide healthy and nutritious foods to see that children don't become over weight from empty calories. Fill up the refrigerator with this good stuff that can look appetizing. Learn new recipes and share with the kids. The simple least expensive recipes are the best. It is those informative years that mold a young person's thinking for the rest of their lives to keep physically fit and healthy. The simplest method to feel good about yourself is to watch what you eat to provide the essential vitamin and mineral building blocks to maintain a healthy life style so you can have that energy and power source to live well. Control those eating patterns, and one way could be that might be helpful is to write everything down that you eat during the day. It helps get a good look at where you may be going wrong. Keep a list of the best and highest sources of nutritional foods. You can adjust your eating habits and patterns from that when you are aware and see it in front of you. There are many sources of information but the idea is to start.
