With the second pick of the NFL 2010 Draft, the Detroit Lions did as I had anticipated picked Ndamukong Suh of the Nebraska Cornhuskers hopefully fulfilling the defensive line and increasing our chances of winning more games during the 2010-11 seasons.

He was the 2009 AP college player of the year among his many off the field awards as well as the Nebraska MVP 2009. This dynamic defensive line snaps off the line faster than many of our historical defensive heroes in Detroit.

He had the following records as posted on the Nebraska Cornhuskers web page for him:

Suh left Nebraska with his name prominently displayed in the Cornhusker record book.
-Suh had 57 career tackles for loss, good for the No. 2 spot on the list, just behind Grant Wistrom's school-record 58.5 tackles for loss.
-His 24 career sacks are tied for fourth in Nebraska history.
-He finished with 215 career tackles to rank 24th on the Nebraska career list. He ranked fourth among interior defensive linemen in career tackles.
-His 15 career breakups were also a position record, bettering the 11 by Steve Warren (1996-99).
-Suh had at least one tackle for loss in 21 of his final 25 games, including 12 of 14 games as a senior.
-He made at least five total tackles in 15 of his final 20 games.
-The two blocked kicks against Iowa State tied a Nebraska single-game record for any player and was a position record for defensive linemen. His three blocked kicks for the season were a position record, bettering his own two blocks in 2008.
-Suh's six career blocked kicks were a record for defensive linemen and were one shy of the school record for blocked kicks by any player.

I have only seen one game with him in it because of course often his teams games were on when the Wolverines were playing thus I didn't see too many of his college level games.

As always, time will tell if this pick is a superb grab by the Lions rather than another disappointment that is off the field behavior overshadowed his on the field play. I am not implying that he will be a trouble maker at all I am just a cautious fan who has learned from mistakes in the draft in the past such as Andre Ware a great college player who was unable to play well in the pro's.

He has committed $2.6 to the UNL to the Engineering College and to Strength Training. So, before you make assumptions, get your facts straigth. Suh has always been quiet, serious and an extremely hard working young man - would you have said this about Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy? Doubtful!
21 months ago: Lessons from previous players many of whom stayed out of trouble in college...and just got in over their head when the millions poured in.

I never said he got into to trouble be careful how you claim to be offended. There are plenty of athletes who have gotten into trouble we never hear about so why don't you just worship the ground he walks on.

As a fan of the Lions and a Veteran of the American Armed Services I am pretty sure I can speculate to what might happen later all I want. So before you start acting all offended you might want to consider we live in the land of the free and the home of the suspicious Lions fans.

So your comments about me "acting all offended" just don't make any sense. Didn't you write this article and provide a space for people to comment on YOUR thoughts? And, by the same token aren't I allowed to write MY thoughts? Since I am an American, and a 25 year veteran police administrator, I am aware that this is the home of the free and suspicious sport fans from all states - its just seems that wishing SUH well in Detroit at such a high point in his life would have been not only nice, but gracious that the caliber of the young man isn't that of say a Lawrence Phillips, Christian Peters or a Thunder Collins - I will be supporting, NOT worshipping SUH and the Lions because HE represented Nebraska in an outstanding manner. I worship GOD, not man - we are after all simply talking about sports....
21 months ago: You are entitled to write I was just a little off put by your "So, before you make assumptions, get your facts straigth."

I as most always when I am giving an opinion based upon my love of the Lions and their usual failure to adequately draft blue chip recruits leaves me a bit cynical.

I have seen too many draft picks with such high expectations who were in fact "great role models" in college once they get the high life of professional paydays...

Tony Mandarich....Andre Ware....Ben Roethlisberger (lately)....Ryan Leaf...Antoine Walker....
