Denis Leary's new book, "Why We Suck: A Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy, and Stupid", is awesome. He has always been one of my favorite comedians but has truly outdone himself this time. It is a book of rants.
He rants about women not getting men and men not getting women. He's politically incorrect whenever he can be. He has a whole chapter on the history of the Anna Nicole Smith saga and why it is things like that that make the terrorists hate us. He has a chapter on Oprah, and how she's actually kind of cool because she uses her huge influence for good deeds.
He has a chapter on people who have kids that should not be having them because he says there's a certain type of Mom that just wants a kid as a fashion accessory. He finally comes out and says it: There is not one child-star from his generation that came out normal (except Ron Howard and Jodie Foster). He rants about kids needing to toughen up not so every kid can be at the top of the pecking order but so there can actually be a pecking order again.
Additionally, he explains that there is no such thing as a family that is not dysfunctional, but that family is still the most important thing. He rants against the Catholic church and their idiotic policies. He rips the entire Catholic church a new one. In the process he also debates dogs versus cats, makes fun of how everybody thinks he's Willem Defoe, and wonders why everybody wants to adopt an ethnic baby instead of (his example) checking out the orphanage in Belfast.
He writes about how much he LOVES his Mother and then all her little quirks that make her great. He tells some funny stories about his family. He also applauds good old manual labor because there's always going to be a class that is forced into it in the U.S. for a few generations.
He is simply one of the funniest men I have ever stumbled across. I am so glad that Denis Leary finally wrote a book and anyone that likes Rescue Me will like it. One warning: It is gross, offensive, cliched, and stereotypical, BUT IT IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!
