My father-in-law recently passed away. It was sudden, but fortunately the family all got a chance to see him at the hospital. He was at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, where he got excellent care. From the emergency room to the private room he was moved to after being admitted, all the hospital staff were kind, sympathetic, and gentle. They made sure he was not in pain and checked on him often. The nurses kept us informed of what would be happening, and one of the emergency nurses he had even accompanied him and the family to his room several floors away. We couldn't all follow him to the room, but she told us how to get to the waiting area until he was settled. While he was being cared for they even showed us a private room where the family could gather, and brought us coffee and cookies for the wait. When he passed away we were all able to be by his side telling his stories. We weren't rushed to leave him, and they made sure a chaplain was available to us. On this most difficult of days, we truly appreciated their compassionate care of all of us!
