PETRA: Never Say Die
VIDEOS

"You just can't find good Christian Music Videos or albums" ...I've heard it said, but it does seem all the great stuff is found by referral. A lot of Christians already have their playlist's of favorite artists, however for those who are just seeking... the search can be quite tiresome. The main reason I think, is because "christian" means many things to many people... so doing a online search may not give you even remotely what you want. Many times I have asked people if they have heard the new Christian Music, only to get back... "It all sounds the same" ...oh contraire mon frere... there is a world of inspiration in any form you can imagine, the following are a few of my faves new and old...

POD-Payable On Death... the name of a Christian Music Band who has made an impact on this generation and definitely ones to come. Each hard-hitting edgy music video produced by these guys portrays a gripping message of life in its rawest state... check these guys out on Facebook or YouTube for more info...

Toby Mac a great artist... rap to vocals, this guy leaves it all on the table. Back in the day he led the DC Talk group... I was privileged to see one of their first performances in Kimberly, British Columbia, Canada... Awesome! Anything this guy does makes a dent... fun, inspiring and provocative... Toby Mac is Back!

"Stacie Joy Orrico (born March 3, 1986) is a Contemporary Christian and R&B singer-songwriter and occasional actress. In 1998, she signed to ForeFront Records when she was 12 years old, and recorded her first album Genuine (2000), which sold 13,000 in the first week of release."

Third Day... Rock/ Christian Rock/Gospel Rock/Southern Rock... These guys kick-it Southern Style... a great addition to your playlist, worship and praise with some fun thrown in... good stuff that touches the heart...

Years ago we had a Youth Center and set it up much like a pub with monitors and screens, that featured different Christian music... for the most part we drew a crowd that wasn't "christian" and they loved it! Not because of the music, but because of the social mix... hanging out playing pool, listening to loud music... just having a ton of fun. It makes me wonder if Church was more like a pub, if more people would show up. It can get a little stuffy at times in a Church... no wonder sometimes that people think that Christians can't have fun... if that is all they see.

We take for granted that if I don't like a certain music genre others won't too... I encourage everyone to step into another's world... in music, culture and social events. It may give you a greater appreciation for the ones you are trying to reach and connect with. "Walk a mile in their shoes" ...that way if things don't work out, you can console yourself with the fact, that you are an entire mile away from them,
with a new pair of shoes !:]

10 months ago: You have very good taste.

Love Tobymac.

Do you know LeCrae?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RWEllqh5...

This brother has an edge. He deals with strong subjects and can cross over easily and get the gospel to those who are into "thug and drug" rappers.

10 months ago: Thanks BIG TIME Huey,

THIS HERE is what I'm talking about... REFERRAL... I have forgotten about this video that you shared... INCREDIBLE!

"How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" (Romans 10:14-15)

"And He (Jesus) said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." (Luke 10:2)
10 months ago: Charlie says, "Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Christian Rock Music is like saying Prostitutes hooking for Jesus. The name "Rock" alone is a reference to sex in the back of a car. Christians should stop imitating the secular world and get their own culture. It is starting to makev them look like they miss being in the world. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!Ha!
10 months ago: Dumb comment Charlie.

There is music and vocals in every genre and style that can be used to glorify God.

Music is music and the devil can't sanctify a note.
10 months ago: DJ,

It matters little what something or someone is called... it is what is done and represented that matters. Does it matter what someone calls you? It only matters what and who you are.... the same goes for music. The Apostle Paul wrote...

"Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings." (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

"For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." (Galatians 5:13)
10 months ago: Charlie says to Huey, "You see Truthbrary's comment? Now that is a potentially dumb comment!"
Charlie says to Truthbrary, "What do you mean it doesn't matter what people call you? People call you as they see you.; They called Jesus,. Teacher and Master because that is what they saw him as. Don't dismiss a person because you don't think what they look like matters. It matters and Rockers, especially the so called Christian kind are leading people away from Jesus, not to him!"
10 months ago: DJ,

I admit some seem to present themselves in an ungodly fashion, but until they are preaching a false gospel and leading others into immorality... let God be their judge.
10 months ago: Charlie says, " No Huey! It is not a dumb comment, rude perhaps for laughing but certainly not dumb. What my comment definitely is, is factual. The term, 'rock and roll' is definitely linked to sex in cars. Rock and Roll music was considered The devils music by black and white Christians alike in its infancy. Even pioneers such as Ray Charles admitted that he trivialized gospel music by setting scandalous secular lyrics to familiar gospel tunes. Little Richard was famous for cross dressing on stage and popularizing the image of an effeminate music idol."

" Make no mistake Huey that Rock and Roll Musicians, even of the phony Christian variety, are Idols that are worshiped by their fans. Real Christians Musicians do not bend their music to resemble the secular world. Think of groups such as Jackson Southernaires, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Take 6 as shining examples of Real Christian Musicians. Remember that Old Time String Bands, Blues, Jazz, R&B and even Disco, Rock and Pop which the preceding inspired all borrowed their sound primarily from Gospel but discarded Gospel Music's noble message."

"This secular soulless soul sound popularized by it's racy lyrics evolved away from Gospel. Now so called Christian Rock Groups take this filthy sound and play it in halls of worship. That is like having temple prostitutes. Gospel never sullied itself. If these so called Christian Rockers want to sing to the glory of God let them sing Gospel, not the music of Beelzebub. There I said my piece. "
10 months ago: There is nothing wrong with being discerning, but you sound a bit like a music snob to me. Either it fits your particular taste or it is of the devil. Heard that too many times in my lifetime.

Like I said, the devil does not own musical notes.

That being said, if particular notes are arranged in such a way that they sound like a particular brand of music that in no way diminishes the sound's ability to bring praise to God. Now on top of that, add vocals that are Christ-centered and God honoring you have worship music. Doesn't matter that the specific package doesn't fit a particular person's taste. It is what it is. Sound and lyric that praises and gives glory to God.

It really should not matter if that particular music sounds like Grand Ole Opry or Led Zeppelin. The point is what is the purpose behind it and Who is it designed to lift up? What is the overall message? That is what is most important, not the specific harmony or overall sound of it.

10 months ago: Charlie says to Huey," Don't be ignorant of the power of music. It has the ability to shift your mood and your soul. It can affect how you feel and what you do. None of this is missed on the Prince of Darkness. He has been around through all of human history. He is a student of human nature and that includes music. Don't think he is ignorant of the power of music."

"You can insult me and call me a musical snob that it doesn't change the facts. You should not mix the Sacred with the profane or the Holy with the secular. Listening to secular music has to be selective but Christian music shouldn't be, but thanks to the dark work of Christian idols that lead listeners away from Jesus a Christian has to be selective."

"Very seldom do secular people pick up Christian versions of Secular music styles and get converted to Christianity, however very often Christians pick up Christian music that imitates secular music and slowly slip away from their faith because of it. So insult away but you know I'm right"
10 months ago: "Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean." (Romans 14:13-14)
10 months ago: Charlie says to TB, "Like Huey says, 'It is being discerning' not judging. Don't result to telling me to shut up just because you know I'm right."

Being a non-Christian, what makes you an authority of what should be designated as holy and pure with regard to what Christians should listen to? What makes you an authority on rock and roll when you lived and died before it even existed?
10 months ago: Charlie says to Huey, "First of all let me tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the You Tube Video. It was obscure yet fit the situation to a tee, so Kudos to you Mr. Newton. Second I would like to say that you assume to much. Read Dwayne Johnsons Profile, in there I introduce myself. You will notice then that I am not who you currently perceive me to be. Third and last of all Charlie does not need to be a Christian to understand it's culture and its culture currently resembles secular culture and if they look alike and sound alike then they must be alike, right?"

10 months ago: I find it interesting that some Christians can criticize the music from others in the faith... while blasting secular tunes all day long...
10 months ago: Ain't it the truth, TB.
10 months ago: I have been called on this a few times by my kids...
as a fan of classic rock !:]

I would seem we have a higher standard for those in the faith, and judge their motives instead of lyrics and message. We need to give space to those who are trying to impact this world through a very difficult industry...
10 months ago: Yes sir.

Obviously my taste in music ranges outside straight up "praise and worship" music.

It's amazing that some can claim that a particular music is ungodly when it may not even have lyrics!

On the flip there are others that would call much of Christian music uninspired or boring and then when we check out the Grammy's or American Music awards most of that stuff is cookie cutter or even crap these days. Go figure.

Classic rock is fine by me. It all depends on what is being communicated and how it speaks to the individual. Even so-called secular songs can be uplifting and minister life. Again, it's all about discernment.

10 months ago: I was a big fan of Johnny Cash. He turned pretty much Christian in his later years. Always loved his music through the years. He was a talented, artistic person.
John Denver when he sang it was as if angels joined in with him. He brought God's outdoors right to us and shared it.
Music is a gift from heaven anyway. When it is sung right it is Godly.
Some Christian music I have heard it is all about getting known and making money and not about the faith. I spent time on JD's land after he died. Camped out and enjoyed some of the things he taught us to love. That's about as Christian as you get when you can give in your music. I like a lot of the Country Western singers.
