I have noticed these past few month that perhap western world is not as goods as peoples used to think.
Not alot of monies,not alot of jobs,people have genuin fear of what is happening.
How can we survive all of the cuts that are happens.
I have a theory that if your countries followed china's path it would lead you to great riches.
In the world there has only been one country that grows year on year.
Growing manufactoring and output while the western world got greedy and too expensive.
If you look at the fact china model is working and they are thriving while everyone else is struggling.
Is it time you asked for our help or are you too proud and stubborn in the western world.
England begged for more exports into china and the eurozone have aswell.
Our glorious land is such a diverse free place that maybe the western world needs to look at.
you say you are a free world so i ask this questions.

In your state your local muslim clerics start to preach hatred in your streets.
The police watch but do not make arrests.The wordings they use could easily be cast as racist towards white people.
Now you and a few friends start to shout back at them.
Will you be arrested?.
In england you would be arrested for siting racism but not the clerics.
How is this a free world.

China make its larger companies pay corporation tax.
In the western world the politicians let the large companies off of corporation tax and then even have to pay them to employ people.
This not sound like a free world to me so maybe you can learn from us if we decide to tell you.
Western people have bad words to say about communism but we are lead to greatness but are your leaders any good for you.

22 months ago: In many ways you are right. Corporations should definitely pay more.

In a way national economies evolve. After WWII Japan and Germany were broken countries and the US helped them get going again and build a manufacturing base. They started out with low wages and Japan started by making cheap trinkets. Germany instead concentrated on making quality.

In Japan they started out sacrificing safety, working conditions, and put up with a lot of pollution at first. but then the workers and the citizens got angry and demanded better working conditions and higher pay, and the pollution laws were made stricter. At first they copied other countries then they figured out how to do things themselves, then they started making better products and began to specialize in quality. The higher quality products meant they could sell the products at higher prices which meant they could pay the workers more.

When China started to industrialize they went through the same evolution. First starvation wages (but better than subsistence farming). China took over the production of cheap low quality products from Japan. At the same time people put up with high pollution, unsafe working conditions, child labor and poisons and toxic materials in the products.

Now china is finally entering the phase where they can make higher quality products so they can sell the products for more, and pay their workers more, and demand an end to pollution.

When Chinese workers make a living wage and start making quality products the cheap slave labor enterprises will move to other undeveloped countries like Africa where the starving peasants are willing to put up with lousy working conditions, pollution etc.

The right wing in this country thinks that all labor unions should be abolished, and that all regulations that guarantee safe working conditions, and prevents pollution should be abolished, and that we should go back to the starvation wages of China's early days. They want to reverse the economic evolution, and turn America backward into the China of 10 - 20 years ago with no rules or regulations, so the corporations can exploit the workers and pollute.

The left wing thinks that we should give more power to the unions which would increase wages, insure safe and non polluting working conditions. They think that America should continue progressing and should concentrate on quality, and innovation so we can compete with the other developed nations.

China doesn't have to deal with half of the people in the country wanting to go backward (the regressive right) and doing everything they can to stop the progressives from investing in innovation. The regressives are intentionally destroying the economy and doing long term harm to the country because they think they can gain politically by impeding change and hurting Obama.

China has a single entity that is concentrating on what is best for the long term good of the country.

Just like any place else, how do you dig out from under when there is crime around you and no protection from harm. No one to take care of the people and provides safety for them.
(The African people are fighting back in the areas of their Country where they can.) Again, it is the Government making the rules and the people aren't stable enough to make changes. They want them that way. I have met people in the past few years that are African and of such great character and decency with a willingness to help their Communities flourish. All it took was to give them a little confidence and a means to enlighten them and show them there is a big World out there for them, too. I have seen people rise from the ashes sort of speak. Little by little they are taking baby steps, but there are those that have such a sense of worth and joy in them that is immeasurable and helps them to achieve. I have great respect and happiness when I hear a voice on the other end of the phone from a dear friend who is doing his hard and tiring work in Africa, and he tells me that he and his family love us so much and we are their life line; and they won't be alone as long as we are there standing by them. Through this experience he gained, he got a wonderful job where he is learning everyday and succeeding. We took interest in helping a Community starting in 07, and they had nothing and no one was even the slightest interested in helping them. People would attempt to make up list of those that rejected them and that was it. All negative but that was changed with a little effort. The water issue was corrected when another person in our small group was able to have built have clean water well from an organization. The people have had to travel 10 miles for clean drinking water. At this moment they are building a large school and they have other property where they are building a food shelter. They have brought in a Government teacher for the kids. As you know this is what it takes to work together and progress to make change. When one sets an example, others will follow. There are some opportunities out there for the people. In Zambia they have a very large Sports Center, and we were able to provide the village children with sports equipment. In time, the children interested in Sports cmay be able to get to the Olympics, but they need someone to show them the way. There is hope here. What I like about some of these Communities, they are family oriented. They are trying to protect their own against crime and abuse. The school that is being built is getting the orphaned children educated and off the streets in a protected environment where they won't be enslaved and beaten by others that try to force them to work for them as slaves. These kids before ran away to escape this. Once a Government sees outside interest, the Community begins to get recognized and will get help even if it is a little. I'm very proud of this project. All this talk about China leaves me empty. This person here that speaks his mind which is all well and good for him, but I don't believe that he sets a good example and is a good spokes person for China. One thing the USA has is heart and soul for others. Where would some of these Countries be if the USA didn't step in? Some people that criticize us so much don't see that we are there defending and providing for those less fortunate. They are blind to the fact that we helped them get through. In the

a drought of 2 years has forced millions to move often walking 300 miles with no food or water.millions being killed because of hunger.

It isn't right. We do whatever we can to help personally.
Whatever we do is working, but there is need for people to step in and change this. The African people are on their own facing this hideous way of life being threatened by militants. These are simple people trying to live out their lives, and that is the reason why they are here. Not for crazies to annihilate them. They need a break.

All of the above are available to all Americans who work. If one has no job it is not because there are NONE available. Time and determination are unstoppable forces.

Americans are the most resourceful people on the planet. It is unfortunate that there are forces on both sides of our political spectrum that are trying to destroy this country.

We have one camp that thinks they have God in their pocket and all they have to do is pull the strings. Then there are the others who want nothing to do with God and are determined to damn this country to a hellish moral cesspool. Both sides will ultimately lose.

But at least we have a spectrum. Do you??

The American dream is a reality for those who go after it. I would never want to be subject to a government like yours.

22 months ago: I agree with everything you said except that last part. the American dream is a reality only to the person who is selling it. When money itself creates more income than any amount of hard work the American dream becomes a loan sharks paradise.

I've said it before. Our economic problems come from the fact that we refuse to bridge the gap between price and value. And then we charge interest on the loan. Want a car? you will pay nearly twice it's asking price after interest. Want a house? three hundred percent interest over 20 years. Need a college education? The price inflates with more rapidity then precious metals.

You got that right. My oldest is starting college in the fall and it ain't cheap.

As for "the Dream" part, it's what we shoot for with honest and hard work.

Yes, there are those who abuse and corrupt the system but that is no excuse for us not being as successful as we can be. Contrary to what some believe, it is still possible to have a measure of prosperity in this country and be moral, honest, ethical and hard working.

I never will never die with "Not Used Up" or "Didn't Reach His Potential" on my tombstone.

This is still a land of opportunity and it's up to us to make the best of it. Places like China pale in comparison to freedom and resources that are available here. We just have to keep these wing nuts that we put in office accountable.

22 months ago: I worry because the middle class is disappearing. 50 thousand manufacturing jobs have gone to China. No wonder why they are so smug. Products are not being made here in the US. Factories shut down. Unions start going away and you notice lower paying jobs springing up. People are struggling and won't be able to retire if they get sick or have a heart attack at 66. They want to raise social security age. The health care is not affordable. Many are beyond the dream but still want to live a full life and deserve it because they have more to contribute.
We have this huge debt and if something isn't done by August we don't know what will happen if we default on our debt. It never happen to us before in the USA. We are giving the big tax breaks to the wealthiest 2 percent. We won't be able to squeeze a dime out of them.
It is the land of opportunity and I am with you in what you say, but it is very unfair that we have to have this anxiety here in America. You are right we have to keep the wing nuts accountable. We have a lot we are up against. I took a chance and changed my career, and I will do good. Others don't have the chance like seniors who haven't gotten that cost of living increase and all necessities have gone up. Food, rents everything has gone up. The neglect is starting to show.

If you don't know enough about the American States, and you haven't lived here or mingled with the people, than you shouldn't make comments such as you did because you aren't knowledgeable enough. Many Chinese people come here and make their homes and have businesses. The people I know of Chinese Culture are simply hard working nice people that are respectful and want to be part of America. However, I don't believe you know enough to make the comments you have because what you said is offensive and said without thought. We have a history of strong independent people that forged our Country and with it came rights and freedoms for all. You said you live in England to avoid taxes but that isn't being fair to England because you plainly don't care about them either. Corporations moved to China to avoid unions and to avoid all of the rules and regulations that prevented their ability to dump toxins in the air and water.

All nations went through the same evolution. WE in the US are more evolved than many, but the Republicans are trying to take us back to those bad old days when workers could be exploited, unions are not tolerated and rules and regulations are minimized, so corporations are allowed to poison the world again. They want to turn America into what China was before.

It was the unions that turned everything around. The unions gave America it's middle class. The unions gave us the 40 hr. work week, safety standards, child labor laws, and a living wage. In fact all of the things that make living and working in America so much better than China is due to the Unions. Unfortunately unions have been under attack for the last 30 years and now only 7% of the workers are unionized.

Now China is realizing that if it is to turn around it's reputation, as Japan and Germany has, then it needs to bring in unions to create better working conditions, higher wages and safer higher quality products that have a good reputation. Now they have evolved to the point that they are creating more engineers than we are and they will be able to turn from making cheap crap to making quality products that anyone will be willing to pay a higher price for.

The Chinese are tired of the pollution, the toxins in the water and air, the poisons in the food. They are ready to form their own middle class and to decrease their wage inequality, so they are finally allowing Unions to come in to improve working conditions and to rectify all of the problems that you have all condemned Felix for. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/12/busine...

In fact they are making big corporations angry because they came to China to exploit the workers and to pollute with impunity. Now they are being told to clean up their acts and some don't like that. They might just move their factories to Africa where they can exploit the workers and pollute without any regulations. Or if the Republicans have their way and force us into another depression, Americans may be willing to work for starvation wages and put up with unsafe working conditions and pollution like the Chinese did before they got smart.
22 months ago: If you want the nuts and bolts, emotions aside, China has topped out economically for the time being in a lot of ways. There is no way they are going to continue to grow at the rate they have the last 10 years. Based on 5.5% CPI recently and 6% most likely for June, inflation is a real problem. China not immune to the turmoil of the financial markets and their economy is still working off a stimulus. There will be no soft landing.

China has historically NEVER been aggressive in reigning in inflation and there is no reason to expect them to do so now. Exports are also struggling and it reprehensible that oft times they not only put out inferior products but products that they know are dangerous. Not going to generate international good-will that way.

China's Central Bank is not independent and they are undergoing a change in leadership in 2012. All things being equal, I don't see a disaster happening there right away. But the economy is overheated and has overcapacity and overinvestment. Can anyone say "Bubble."

Also, given their history of human rights abuses, their government's propensity to lie and grand stand I'm not betting the farm on them. Nor will I hold them up as some type of shining example of the way the world should treat people and do business. That's just sick.

I do however, as an American, wish the people of China well.

22 months ago: Sunny I think you misread me completely. I have defended America consistently and have condemned the pollution, poisons in products and the cheap crap China puts out. I have repeatedly said that what makes America wonderful and China a miserable place to work are our freedoms and the worker's rights, environmental protections.

I think you are confused because I applaud the progress China has recently made in workers rights, in environmental progress and in investing in the future. At the same time I acknowledge that they still have a long way to go with human rights.

If I have criticized America it was only the right wingers that I criticized who are trying to turn America into what I hate in China.

I think it is important to applaud and encourage progress in other countries. That does not mean that if I acknowledge that another country is doing something right that it automatically means that America is doing it wrong.

But I do think that we can learn from other countries. I think our health care system sucks, but I wouldn't look to China as an example, theirs blows more than ours does. I think our political system has become dysfunctional, but I certainly would not look to China as an example. I think China has also done a rotten job of protecting the environment and the fauna and flora, because everyone there eats anything that moves, while the US is one of the best in that area. But I think it is important to encourage them when they embark on a reforestation project the size of California. I abhor the forced abortions and the infanticide of baby girls, but because they only have one child most of the Chinese people love their children dearly and want a better future for them.

I have been to China and have seen some of the most beautiful country in the world there. That does not mean that I don't love our own beautiful country. I was impressed with how industrious, and happy the Chinese people are and what hard workers they are.

What is wrong about pointing out that China spends twice what we do to encourage renewable energy, or warning people that if we don't get off our **** that they will beat us to all of the green jobs of the future.

America is the most powerful nation in the world both militarily and economically, but we have become fat and lazy in many ways. If we don't improve our educational system, start investing more in research and development and progress in many ways we will be overtaken by China.

He exploits other Countries and bashes. What is it to him? I live in an area that has diversity. I know many Chinese families that are marvelous people and the Country is beautiful, and I plan to visit one day. I don't think our military troops are fat and lazy. People have no jobs, no homes, and no money and no proper nutrition. Unlike you, who seems taken care of, they aren't as fortunate. The Americans still go out and survive in the worse conditions that these fat cats are causing. We will never be overtaken by China economically. You should be thinking about encouraging the American people and protecting them. You can make a difference even in a small way. Talking about all subjects and no action to make change doesn't do it. I told you that we had a successful event in which we are starting a Community awareness to become independent and help in developing their educational system. It was great. You can too. 18 months ago: It is quite easy to notice that Felix Mannow is criticizing western civilization. Another way to say this might be, "Shaming western civilization". Yes, there are shameful goings on and no, western governments are far from perfect. This is an area of concern to western citizens and when accused, our first reaction is often, "Oh, it is so true. We don't do well."

What is the measure, what measurement stick can we apply to cultures and civilizations and governments, how can compare one to another in a meaningful way? Criticism often has a date-pit of truth to it, and pointing to how shameful the situation is often causes people to react. So how can we measure the amount of bad and compare it to the amount of good. I am sure we would all like to know for certain that one country is shameful and another can be proud.

We want some measure that universally applies to all cultures in all times. And then we could say which country contributed and which culture created destruction. A really good measurement could even look at larger social movements such as Christianity before and after Christ, Islam, before and after that prophet, India's caste system, before and after; also segregation, before and after integration is accepted.

The measure I would propose would be: What amount of contribution did the group make to the world. And this would be compared to what amount of destruction did the group cause. By this measure Egypt made large contribution many many years ago. America has made large contribution in recent times. I also wish to note that blame and the shame that follows it, never does contribute to a solution, except to stop the shameful action.

8 months ago: OMG ! I so respect that you spoke up! We need more Chinese input and not less! China's standard of living has been increasing quite a bit! Naturally the world is becoming more aware of what goes on in China and how a better for ourselves and our children is becoming a standard in China. The main problem in the past, of course, China has not publicized what is going on within China! I suspect (as one example) that you can not learn how some Universities in China do not have hot and cold running water in University housing. The students must carry their own hot water if they wish to wash. How did I learn this? By chatting Yahoo Messenger! And you can chat there too! Tell everyone the good news about China and it might become more and more popular! And tell us the REAL TRUTH about human rights in China, we all want to know!
