Barack Obama Loses the War On FOX News

Barack Obama has lost the War On FOX News in dramatic fashion.

Even after being roundly criticized from all corners and mocked by the likes of Jay Leno (see first extra link), the Obama White House just could not let go of its fool's errand against the FOX News Channel.

In a culmination of its poor choices on the matter, the White House today embarrassingly attempted to disinvite FOX News from the press pool interview session with Pay Czar Kenneth Feinberg.

Courageously and appropriately for a free democracy, the rest of the media organizations were having none of it. Either FOX News would be included, they let the White House know, or else there would be no interviews.

There are a nearly-innumerable amount of problems with what is generally considered the "mainstream media."

For today, however, we applaud the actions of ABC, CNN, NBC and CBS.

If Barack Obama wishes to emulate Richard Nixon and enact his own Enemies List, that is his right.

It is also the right, and responsibility, of a free people and a free press not to indulge or enable such would-be tyranny when rears its ugly head.

Not long ago, Michelle Obama said that for the first time in her adult lifetime she was proud of her country.

Well for the first time in what seems like forever, I am proud of the mainstream media.

Bravo.

well done to mainstream media.

I'm wondering what Bill O'Reilly will have to say about this...

The video to the left has all the details. The second extra link is a video of the FOX News panel (from the program "Special Report") discussing today's developments.

Thanks for commenting!

Seems like people say "go Fox" because they are quick and clever to say something to make something look how they want it to. Its widely known among scholars. Check this and read it: http://www.scribd.com/doc/7260061/Kull-Ramsay-and-Lewis-Misperceptions-The-Media-and-the-Iraq-War.

If the poor and less fortunate were smart enough or rich enough to hire smart people, they could have "pecked and prodded" at Bush and any other president who was in favor for "better" certain classes of voters over the welfare of the American people. Many got rich and many get poor...it would be better if all were more equal then on opposite ends of the wealth scale.

Del -- No clue what you're talking about. However, if you want to examine well-funded propaganda outlets, then I'm sure Media Matters, MSNBC and the Huffington Post can help you out.

A proud moment for the press. You presented it well.

Thanks, Rudi! :)

And you're right -- the press finally did something right.

You dont know about social media studies on Fox and duping its viewrs? Look some more. Do you work for Fox PaulFVillarreal? You seem to try and discredit me, but I am a Political Scientist and not someone saying my feelings. So before you call people wrong, GET your facts straight.

Its funny, you say "Del -- No clue what you're talking about. However, if you want to examine well-funded propaganda outlets, then I'm sure Media Matters, MSNBC and the Huffington Post can help you out," but yet you give me sources that are news (this goes with exactly my point.) I am telling you to look into studies on the effects of media and persuasion, not the damn TV or news sources.

Looup these scholors along with the word Iraq:
STEVEN KULL
CLAY RAMSAY
EVAN LEWIS

Say what you want, but your little comment "I dont understand" does not relate to what I am trying to say. Do you think richer and more ecducated can come up with better questions to try attack someone? Most people that are Fox viewers, are white, republic, and conserbatives. Many feel the poor and minorities are bring down "their" society, so why have a President that wants to help less fortunate. A lot of our troops w/ families, are making wages equal to that of Federal poverty. When they come back, and cant make it as easy in your capitalists market, they will be needing social services.

You seem like a person out there trying to cause problems and incite anger and division of people.

Del -- Try decaf.

As far as discrediting you, why would I need to do that? I think that might go in the category of "superfluous" at this point.

I'm glad you are a political scientist. No, I don't work for FOX. Do you work for Media Matters?

Here's what I know: The White House pulled a move that looks a lot like an abuse of power a few days ago. They got smacked down in an appropriate, unified way. That's what the rant was about. I like America, and free speech, and don't want politicians of any stripe interfering with that. Including wannabe Gangster Messiahs.

MSNBC and CNN both just slandered Rush Limbaugh. My rant wasn't about that, and your comment didn't address that issue. I could talk about that, but that's not what this post was about.

Again, if you wish to minimize a presidential overreach with an attempt to play rationalization games, go right ahead. Roger Ailes isn't the leader of the free world, and when he becomes such, then maybe his actions would rise to the level of importance as those of Barack Obama.

Until that time, as Obama might say, I'm not losing sleep over it.

Hey smart guy, I dont drink coffee. I have 2 little girls, so I am sorry if I am up and speaking my mind...Get some hair.

OK, well when Bush 2 was telling people what to COULD NOT do and who could do what when it concerned the Executive, it was OK and not a lot of voters cared (like there was much we could do anyways.) Then Bush 2 allowed for minimal regulation in finances and such, and look where we are at. Then people like you want to blame someone who was given this HUGE ball of problems, and he is to blame?

Get a life...I have a blog, and I am a family man, I dont like it when articles are out and about, and they have this little occult like following. You just making up "fluff" and the only people who would side with you, are people with a chip on their shoulder (haha.) I am not someone trying to sway people into what to think, but stating something else to think about.

Passion is good -- I like that.

I wasn't a big Bush fan, by the way.

Actually, I'm not making up fluff. Nor is FOX News. If they were, Obama wouldn't be trying to take them down. He'd just laugh.

Van Jones really did sign a 9/11 Truth petition. ACORN really was caught on tape. Etc. That's the problem, unlike what Obama said: FOX actually is a news organization running real stories, not making up false quotes about talk radio hosts.

For the Chicago Whiners, that's the issue. Only supplicants need apply.

Take care, and best of luck!

It's all good, Scot. We're not afraid of free speech -- that's much more of a thing for some of the Obama fans.

Peace!

Also I never said nothing about "hearing about the horrors of the last administration that drank baby's blood in the oval office, pushed old ladies on to railroad tracks and didn't think Michael Moore walked on water." great job buddy, you just proved my point about how easy the story can fit whatever you want. Some of you seem to have no life or maybe mad at society/people. You dont have to be the coolest one to be liked.

Remember your lumping me into these categories of yours, so no matter what your right and I am wrong...yay. I feel like I am arguing with the red-headed step child who wont listen, look up a movie "problem child 2(1991)." haha

Hang in there Del, Yes there are a lot of right wingers at the site that tend to gang up on you, but there are a few Liberals around still.
I agree with you that Fox and most of talk radio has just become the media voice of corporate America, and that was why Obama decided to treat them as such.
On the other hand limiting the freedom of the press is a losing proposition, so I am not going to expend much energy defending this instance.

Yes: let's congratulate the "mainstream media" for protecting a media outfit that rarely presents opposing viewpoints, dedicates pitifully little time to gathering real news (commentary is not "news"), and, under the last administration, accepted the administration's spin as the last word on any news story. Kudos, mainstream media.

Nevermind the Obama admin.'s "strategy" re: Fox News. It's foolhardy. It lends credibility to a network that's staffed by a tantrum-throwing giant, a borderline personality who scrawls poorly-spelled mnemonic devices on a dry-erase board and segues to actors in period costume, and an ambulance-chasing lawyer with a botched facelift. It's a parody of a news organization, and Obama's kneecapping of Fox News reminds me of the old (and apt) country adage: never wrestle a pig; you'll only get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Where's Geraldo's time slot, Greg? Sandwiched somewhere between a Jack Lalanne infomercial and the first hour of Fox and Friends? Yes: they really want that one to succeed.

Coulter is a prop comic. Balancing the candy apple head on that pencil-neck is the "act"--like plate-spinning. I think of Al Franken's challenge to a friend, re: one of Anne's latest one word-titled books (her, with self-satisfied smirk, always on the dust jacket--conservative pin-up): "I bet I can find a lie in here before Franny gets her lipstick on." The look on Anne's face, as Franken destroys what's left of her credibility, is really priceless.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHx0oLrGjKY

Balance is O'Reilly's latest shtick. Beck has cornered the market on moonbats, people who see his professor act as an approximation of the university environment (just like higher ed, but without the messy diversity of opinion). Krauthammer has cornered cryptofascism and ridiculously high shirt collars--and I love that he's become the alpha conservative. "Balance" is what's left, so O'Reilly will gladly try it, just to stop the bleeding.

The Fox News Watch program is...not terrible. Cal Thomas' show was watchable. That's about it. But I'm sure Fox's Nielsen numbers are in the stratosphere--no incentive to try their hand at news any time soon.

"Of course lets just shuffle that fact under the rug quickly. It was not a strategy on Obama's end it was bias campaign reporting, that is the fact."

Not at all, scot. Fetishize it, draw inexact historical parallels all you like. Talk of "enemies lists," etc. I haven't heard anyone call for the firebombing of the Heritage Foundation just yet, if we're keeping point-for-point, Nixon admin. crazies to Obama admin. crazies score.

"it did nothing while the Iranians died in the streets."

Crocodile tears don't impress me. This statement ranks somewhere with "Saddam attacked HIS OWN PEOPLE" for emotional insincerity.

True: O'Reilly plays Sammy Davis to Dennis Miller's Sinatra in that segment. Really simpering, embarassing. I don't mind Miller's comedy, but I feel so sorry for O'Reilly's part that I can never watch it from beginning to end.

Nothing tie dyed in my wardrobe. Never that crunchy, that into "the movement," so no tamborine, either. But I did buy a Cheney Che-parody tee for a very conservative friend. He seemed to enjoy it.

"We report biased news designed to create fear and anger for our readers, so that we can sell more news". That would be an accurate statement. Instead Fox tries to see us:

We report, you decide.

Taking up the challenge, the White House decided the news "reporting" was not fair and unbiased. And I agree with that.

Wow...so much for wanting to state soemones own side.

I dont continue to call you all a bunch of anger inciting internet dweebs...but you guys keep runnign your fingers...I have this linked to my emails so I get the comments...get off my nuts. I saw a link to this and commented, then I have this little band losers who say this and that, and keep saying my name. You want something to put in your mouth...I am sure one of your buddies on here would help...just keep my name out of it...

Maybe you can all try and be positive today. Remember it is your day of prayer, right? Since you are all conservatives and all, and everyone else is a muslim and/or worships the devil, except for all you guys who know how the world works.

Like many of you say, the atheist and all others who want to live life, are all chanting and praying for world demise....great look on life..

I love how I practiced my freedom of speech, and then you all try to discredit and call names...You are a prime example of the problem that FOX is known for...making lies and trying to turn people against others...are you the original colonizers of Africa, dividing and creating imaginary lines to incite tension and conflict among people?

Give me some credit...it seems like I made your post something for people to want to visit, even if it is to talk some smack. I am sure that is your point...you have a big group of talkers against one person who comes out and provides some facts...your the problem with our Society.

Why dont you let all read "Misperceptions of the Iraq war" by Kull and Ramsey...you think they made it up...you think it was part of Obama, even before he knew we was going to be president...you all are starting to see, like the right stereotypical, right wing nut jobs.

Hey The Cypress Gang,

Check my earlier posts, smart guy. I gave you all a good example, I should have not have to read it to you to, do I? otherwise it dont exist? Here is link http://www.scribd.com/doc/7260061/Kull-Ramsay-and-Lewis-Misperceptions-The-Media-and-the-Iraq-War.

Here is the complete report: http://faculty.chass.ncsu.edu/cobb/p_courses/ps411/assigned%20readings/kull%20ramsey%20and%20lewis%20misperceptions%20iraq%20PRQ.pdf

But then we have the free riders who come in talking smack...read from the beginning.

I was a Diplomatic United Stated Citizen for many years when I was younger. In case you dont know what that is, it basically says I am immune outside the US, and the US government will step in for me, if need be which is a very crude and simple way to explain. But now I am a commie, because some person who posts on a free site, says so?

Say what you need to, it does not bother me. Creating divides...good job. Are you getting paid for this, or is it just natural? Maybe you should go and try to be nice and make new friends. Maybe you wouldn't have a chip on your shoulder.

Also capitalizing letters at the beginning of a sentence is the right way also, but I did not try to poke you with it. I just figured I would throw this in, and stoop to your level.

So you never lived much in the states and have no idea what is going on unless you poll your international audience being a diplomatic united states citizen and all.

You should have learn some diplomacy during your childhood. Guess your a prime example of where the State Department is heading. Bad news for the U.S.

Diplomatic papers and all. "I am immune outside the US, and the US government will step in for me" Hey buddy, immune outside the U.S.? Maybe you should invoke your so called option. Oh, that's right. It's only good outside of the U.S. Guess you will need to move before you pull that bogus line on us. Your not entitled to a single diplomatic emmunity unless your active outside the U.S. under the State Department and a legal dependent of a State Department employee with diplomatic immunity. How can that be? Is your Mom/Dad adding you to their I.R.S. tax forms? If not your not talking truth. Probably talking and talking and talking.
