Avatar The best movie ever!
James Cameron Finds Jesus?
Did God speak to James 14 years ago, but he waited for
technologically to advance to produce it?

http://www.ditii.com/2009/12/11/james-cameron-avatar-on-youtube-screens/

This is what the World will see.

Avatar Plot: The stories protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine, who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Navi, a sentient humanoid race that are more physically capable than humans, although considered primitive. Standing three meters tall, with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Navi live in harmony with their unspoiled world.

As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Navi unleashes their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence. Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Navi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars are living, breathing bodies that are controlled by a human "driver" through a technology that links the driver's mind to their Avatar body.

On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Navi female, Neytiri, whose beauty is only matched by her ferocity in battle. Over time, Jake integrates himself into Neytiri's clan, and begins to fall in love with her. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth, and the Navi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

This is what the Spirit filled Christian will see.

Covertness sinful man, go into a paradise to move beautiful peaceful people from their home because their home is sitting on the most valuable ore ever, they plan to go into their midst to betray them. However, Jake Sully happens to be a man with a pure heart, when he meets this beautiful high spirited girl after saving him, she tells him to get lost.

The Holy Spirit comes all over him from the Spirit tree, (God the Father) coming to the end when man comes to wipe the Navi out, Jake goes to God (Spirit tree and prays from his heart) his Navi girl friend tells him that God is there to protect, but He will not answer such a pray, but He did, God called all the Giant beasts to fight the war for the Navi.

The commander of the attacking forces was evil (could be Satan or the anti Christ) the Scene when they were worshiping God in unity was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen that is the way it will be in Heaven.

This movie in all aspects was the best movie ever, the Holy Spirit spoke to me all the way through, to the unbeliever he certainly would interpret the story differently, but I was so sure that this was of God that I hurried to see exactly who James Cameron was? Did he have an encounter with the Holy Spirit, or was this stealth evangelism directed by the Holy Spirit himself? Even if he did not know the kind of film he was producing, I am convinced this was of God.

According to a press release issued by the Discovery Channel, the documentary, "The Last Tomb Of Christ," produced by Oscar-winning director James Cameron, discovered the tomb in a suburb of Jerusalem in 1980.

Do you think it's possible that James Cameron discovered the skeleton of Jesus? Most Christians are not fond to James, but what was meant for bad, God could turn into Good, something like what he did to Paul.

"Christ told his followers that they would be hated by the world. Hollywood's continued unprovoked attacks against Christianity are no surprise to those of us who believe, since Christ himself told us it would happen. This is why you don't see us rioting in the streets every time our faith is attacked." — Danny (Midland, TX)

"In the last several years, Christianity-bashing has become not only common, but very popular. It's an easy, sure-fire way to make money because anytime you ridicule the beliefs of millions of people, it's an instant firestorm and generates enormous publicity." — Andy

"There are too many historical accounts and testimonies of what Jesus Christ did for all he encountered while here on Earth. He fed the multitudes, healed the sick and gave sight to the blind. These were not tasks completed by any earthly power, but that of God. He then sacrificed himself unselfishly so that we may spend eternity in heaven." — KW

"It is hard for Christians to prove to non-Christians that Jesus Christ was, in fact, the son of God. What is more unbelievable to some is the fact that, although this cannot be proven, Christians still put their faith and hope in Jesus of Nazareth as being the true and living son of God." — Brad

"Either you accept that the Bible is the inherent word of God, or you don't. Jesus was either the only begotten son of God, or the greatest liar known to humankind." — Elsie

“No, this claim is not possible. I am a Christian and I know that my savior Jesus Christ lives. He died on a cross, was buried in a tomb and rose again on the third day. When he rose again, there was nothing left in the tomb. He now sits at the right hand of God our father in heaven and is returning soon to take those who believe in him and live for him, back to heaven. How do I know this? Because he said he is returning soon. The Bible says so.” — Paul

“I would say the story isn't even 1 percent accurate. Either the evidence of Jesus death, burial and resurrection is 100 percent true, or it is 100 percent false. The Christian faith is based upon the absolute authority in what the Bible says is true and accurate (in its original languages.) ” —Micahel

41 months ago: Good movie. Just saw it with my wife, sons and some of their teen-age friends on a family outing. See it in 3D when you can.

As in any well written, good versus evil story, it is very easy to come a way with many spiritual insights.

Sure, we should never look for validation of our faith in things secular. That's a mistake.

However we can glean spiritual insights from movies and such when they are well-done and if we have eyes to see and ears to hear.

Where as a lot of the overt spiritual overtones of Avatar will frighten some insecure believers, when looked at in proper context, the movie can be a great spiritual conversation starter.

Brings entertainment to a whole other level for me.

41 months ago: This could also be interpreted as an anti capitalist movie pitting the evil corporatists against the nature loving hippies, or the evil imperialists against the indigenous aborigines, or the evil cowboys against the virtuous native Americans. They can all be tied together by the teachings of Jesus who spoke against greed and the love of money and for protecting the weak and the innocent.
What lessons does it hold for us today, and the fossil fuel industry that is destroying the worlds of the small island nations whose ancestral homes are sinking below the waves?
41 months ago: Yep.

I've heard people say similar things about "Happy Feet" and "Wall-E"

40 months ago: The movie was not meant to have you find God in it, and rationalize human's pitiful existence with a realization involving something as folly and made up as Christianity. It was a simple message. Human beings destroy everything they touch for their own convenience, and if someone has something we want, we make them our enemy, abd then take it calling any counter-attack an attack of terror. Christians are the cause for most of the bloodshed in history for these exact reasons, and somehow this movie helped you to find the legitimacy in Christianity? I think it's sad and almost disturbing that people find these things in such a beautiful and moving movie, and make it so ugly. If Jesus (who was a great and wonderful human being with an incredible message that Christians preach and usually fail to listen to) saw what humans have become today, I think his sadness would be unmatched by any other sadness anyone in the world has ever experienced
40 months ago: First of all, this is my perception, If you choose not to confess Christianity, and that is your FREE choice, rember "you win or you lose by the way that you choose". Authentic Christians, do not take advantage of others, right now in Haiti it's Christian Ministries that are helping and donating and also feeding the poor in North America, how much are you thinking of giving?
I far as the movie is concerned that is my interpretation. I know God is real, go back into my blogs and read them if you would like to.
40 months ago: It Saddens me to think people can watch a movie like this and that's what they take away from it. IT'S FANTASY. MAKE BELIEVE.

Besides in the movie they at least made their 'god' Eywa somewhat plausible. A neural network in the plants - that could act like a brain and store memories. (Though not omnipotent - therefore not really a god)

Wake up! You're probably old enough not to need you crutch, your imaginary friend, 'god', Yahweh or whichever one you prey to.

If religious people where to be represented in the movie they'd be the naive humans always ready to go to war. Killing the Navi or anyone else that was different. (Their religeous leaders making some excuse to do it other than the real reason: wanting friggin' unobtanium.)
40 months ago: Shaun, then explain to me how a network of plants can tell all the beasts, who are not connected to the network system to attack the attacking forces? Now answer the question, another thing. Why would all of those small floating living type flowers come and rest on him? What has that have to do with a network of roots? God looks on the heart, and he does not see a good one in you, and someday you will find the truth, but it will be too late, look at my profile, do I look like a naive person?

The very first day that the movie was released, I wrote on this site that it was the best movie ever made to date, well in just a few weeks it is the highest grossing almost 2 Billion dollars so far, do I know what I am talking about or what?
40 months ago: Hi Edward. Again it's a movie and fictional.
But they were going on about communication probably being electric because it was so 'fast'. And the Navi could 'connect' and talk to the beasts. The Navi could also connect to the earth/roots and communicate with Eywa. So why can't the beasts?

They also had the little 'tentacles' coming out of the ground touching normal humans and interfacing with them. So there was a connection even though humans can't 'plug into' the beasts like the Navi.

So just by touching the plant life the animals could have got the 'message' to attack.

Don't really know how the floating flowers fit in. Think they said they were seeds (which sorta represented souls/spirits to me). Even though looking like jelly fish.

Again it's all fictional, and they alluded to ideas and possible answers without giving definite answers to how everything works.

Maybe the came to rest on him just because he was different? His smell? Electrical energy he was giving off?

I agree a *very* good movie. Though probably a fair amount of the hype and box office sales probably due to the 3d and CGI. Probably not the best movie ever, but definitely up there. Makes my top 10 anyway.

And had a look at your profile now. You don't seem like naive person - other than your religious beliefs. Unless you have some proof god exists... And LOL at condemning me to hell - why do religious people always feel the need...

In all seriousness I'd strongly recommend you read Richard Dawkin's God Delusion. Was fairly concise. Or if you have I'd love to hear what you thought of it?

40 months ago: Visually its amazing but that can only do so much for a film thats plot wise is a cheap rip off of dances with wolves. with characters so stereotypical in behavior it rivals saturday morning cartoons. It starts off strong but you find yourself saying "allllrriiigghhhtt come on now" seldom at the start but as the movie goes you start to say it more and more. I like how these giant smurfs on birds defeat an army that uses fighter jets that are 150 years more advanced then ours today (Stealth bombers and fighters,) lol what a joke!

And if anything this film embraces some kind of pseudo-paganism. There is absolutely ZERO Christian innuendos of any kind. I saw on drudgereport headline the Vatican even didnt like this movie.

And just because a movie makes a ton a movie doesn't, in any way, add credibility to how good it is.

If this were so then NSync and the backstreet boys were the best music had to offer in mid-late 90s and Independence Day and Mission Impossible II were the best movies of those years, because they grossed the most $.
40 months ago: Agree with your comment that biggest turnover means it's the movie with the biggest turnover - not necessarily the best movie ever.

And er yeah it will add 'some' credibility - there will be some correlation.

And LOL at your comment re paganism and Christianity. Plenty of Christianity based/borrowed from paganism.

They thought it was very similar to their struggle against oil drilling and development of their beloved forests. They thought it was pretty weird though that a white guy had to come in to save them.

40 months ago: I thought Avatar was a good depiction of the Gaia hypothesis, where the entire planet is an intelligent lifeform that regulates things like temperatures storms etc. Mother Earth gets upset when we destroy and abuse her. Could be all of these wicked storms this year are Mother Earth punishing us for our carbon footprints, and the the Earthquake in Haiti is punishment for denuding all of her forests.
See: http://buenomoksha.blogspot.com/2005/09/james-lovelocks-gaia-hypothesis-and.html
for a good description of the Gaia hypothesis.
40 months ago: I saw the movie and thought the 3-D effects were cool (not too-over-the-top. And your interpretation of the Christian Trinity is interesting. But what I know of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is that these three divine Persons or Spirits are at the same time one God. And God (Yahweh) is not in nature (that he created), like the diversely colored and painted objects in a picture-perfect masterpiece. Rather, God IS the Creator (the Artist) over the work of art (nature and man) who paints the masterpiece. And the masterpiece reflects the Artist's characteristics or attributes. Jesus Christ, the Creator of heaven and earth and Author of man’s salvation, came down from heaven to live as a humble servant among man on earth. He ultimately sacrificed his life on the cross for our sins so that you and I may have eternal life and live.

So I would have to disagree with your interpretation of the Christian Trinity in Avatar. The Na'vi are undoubtedly seeking something real and true and trustworthy in their sincere worship of the Spirit Tree. But the religion of the Na'vi is purely new age and pagan. And the object of their worship is a pagan god(dess). Their god is not Yahweh of the Old Testament nor Jesus Christ of the New Testament. There is nothing Judeo-Christian about the Na'vi's religion. There are however certain universal values found in the movie that are not only Christian but absolute across all cultures and all time. Sorry, I do not interpret the same in Avatar from what I know of the Trinity in the Bible. Open your heart to Jesus - the living water- and his unending love for you and taste and see that God is good. Watch him satisfy only what he can fill deep within you. Begin to see that he is trustworthy - always!

It wasn't even that good anyway, but the message it delivers, trying to make us Americans look like total ****s who invade other countries for natural resources pisses me off! I will admit it is very visually compelling, but i will not waste my money to buy it on DVD.

On Avatar: great movie with an overwhelming insight to True Spirituality

For any "Christian" judgmental flack: "judge not..." and "he who is without sin...;" As God would tell you if you could actually hear: "I do not care; suit yourself, see what that gets you."
32 months ago: Of course not, He rose from the grave and ascended into Heaven.

32 months ago: Ed, I guess you missed the parts of the movie that tied everything back to nature, not your God. About how everything depended upon the Gia of the planet, not some supernatural being located in a mythical heaven.

Maybe after these few months you will Netflix it and watch it with a bit less expectation to have your questions answered and a bit more for the entertainment value.

It is a good movie, has some lessons that many should learn in it, but it is not a testament to "God" as envisioned by Christians, Muslims, Jews or any other religion that isn't based on nature.
32 months ago: You saw the movie through carnal eyes, I saw them through the relationship God.

As a matter of fact I saw another movie through those same eyes, I will post it soon.
32 months ago: No Ed, I saw it through my eyes. Nothing carnal about them. They are blue and quite capable of seeing what is before them.

Could it be that you saw the movie through the veil that your faith has placed in front of yours so that you can not see the truth?
32 months ago: You can look around you and see God, He made it all.
32 months ago: When I look around I see things that exist due to natures ability to grow things from what is there.

Even the most devout believer in the Bible and in a religion that espouses a belief in the Christian God will tell you that you can't SEE God. He is not visible according to the Christian belief or the Islamic belief or the Jewish belief or any other belief system that I know of. I though you knew this stuff.

In fact, according to your man authored book, if you do see your God you will die.
32 months ago: Let me ask you Six, to you except the God of Abraham or Curse Him?

Cast you vote.
32 months ago: The English word you are looking for is "accept".

The answer is neither and if you had read anything I've ever written on RR about this subject, you would already know the answer.

And no, you can't tell me that because I don't accept your God that that means I curse him. It means that I don't believe in His existence so I can do neither. You can't accept something that you don't believe exists and you can't curse something that isn't there.

Now you are going to question why I use capitals when talking about your God. Respect for others beliefs is something that all Americans should learn and practice daily. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I should be unkind.
32 months ago: "When I look around I see things that exist due to natures ability to grow things from what is there."

The big question is where did everything we see (and things we can't see) come from?

Nothing cannot produce or create something. That is a scientific impossibility.

Matter is not eternal and man has no clue as to how non-life can become life on its own. All you have is a series of unprovable guesses that have to be accepted by faith.

Rule of thumb when it comes to the origin of the universe or things eternal: Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater and never roll dice when it comes to your soul.
32 months ago: What was, is, what is, was. Only those who have a need for a Creator require that everything else be created as they believe that they were.

"Nothing" is a term that has yet to be totally defined with respect to the Universe. I have a concept in my brain of what nothing could be, or not, but multi-dimensions can skew that concept in many ways.

Man's method to explain such things as how non-life became life is to invent theories about how it could have happened. Sometimes those theories become religious dogma, dogma so old as to be untraceable and improvable.

Why would I be rolling dice over something that doesn't exist?
32 months ago: Evolutionary theories are dogmas that are taught in public schools and preached through every conceivable media outlet. They are not to be questioned and any opinion contrary to their faith is labelled as ignorant.

Agnosticism makes far more sense than atheism because at least the agnostic admits they don't possess infinite intelligence.

Still a crap shoot whether you believe it or not.
32 months ago: Agnostics don't claim to have a God with infinite intelligence; their own intelligence isn't part of the equation.

Life itself is a crap shoot. Adding complicated religious ritual to it just makes it a bigger crap shoot.
32 months ago: Agnostics are honest people. They admit that they don't know.

Atheists are absolutists who believe there are no absolutes yet believe there absolutely is no possibility of a Creator.

Life is a crap shoot for those who have no promises. I've always preferred poker anyway. :)
32 months ago: My definitions are a bit more flexible, but ok with yours.

Promises make life an even bigger crap shoot. They can be broken.

Any version but Texas Hold'em, just not a friendly game, too much "all or nothing".
32 months ago: I was speaking of God's promises, but I know you don't believe in those.

Have not played a good game of cards in a long time. Not even Uno. May be time to buy a new deck.

32 months ago: Six you can't say that " I don't accept your God that that means I curse him. It means that I don't believe in His existence so I can do neither" it doesn't work that way, you think that is playing it safe, It has to be Yea or Nay. that means I believe or I do not.

I know that God is real, do you want me to post things like Rio and not tell you about the most important subject. What kind of friend would I be? I am I your friend.

Anyway thank you for reading my post on salvation, if you were not interest you would move on to Rio.
32 months ago: Wrong Ed, I can say that. You can't but I'm not bound by your convictions so I can say pretty much what ever I desire. That is one of the biggest problems those who have religious beliefs/convictions have. They can not accept that those NOT bound by THEIR convictions, are free from them. Totally, 100% free from them.

No matter what you believe about your God, your religion, your soul, I, that's me, sixholdens, am not, can not, will not be, bound to or by them. You can't burn me at the stake, you can't stone me, you can't ex-communicate me, you can't do anything to me and then accuse me of violating your convictions as the reason you are punishing me because they are not mine. I have not, of my own free will, submitted myself to be confined by them and until that occurs, I am free of them.

Feel free to post all the stories of your travels you so desire. If they interest me I will read them, same as I read your other posts. If I feel the need to comment, you'll see them appear as I have time to write and post them.

A friend learns that some subjects can illicit unwanted responses if pressed to keenly.
32 months ago: Six, what if you are wrong? this is not like spending a year in jail, all that I am saying is, it's it not worth seriously investigating?

My point is the first thing is to prove the authenticity of the Bible. That is what I did. You are a good researcher, prove me wrong, in a sensible way. Not by just spewing out nonsensical stuff.
32 months ago: Ed, I'm not a spring chicken. Been there, done that. As they say, "the proof is in the pudding" and the "pudding" is rancid.

Uh, Ed, I seem to have missed where you PROVED the authenticity of the Bible. You have a big problem that you may not have realized. To prove the authenticity of the Bible, as per your prior statements and those of your ilk, you will have to get God to come down to Earth and in front of all humans, tell us how he wrote the Bible by controlling several different humans minds. Near as I can tell you haven't done that.

My apologies if anything I've written was nonsensical, I really didn't mean to write and post things while I was "three sheets to the wind" and really can't remember having done it. Which reminds me, the liquor locker is dry, time for a 90 mile road trip.
32 months ago: Well Six you have made your position very clear, and I will respect them, but also please respect mind.
32 months ago: At last a glimmer of understanding.

If you expect me to cease commenting on your rants and raves as a sign of respect for your position, you are sadly mistaken. I will try to be gentle and not offend, but be reasonable, that's what this site is for, comments, opinions, good, bad, controversial, annoying, down right nasty if need be. You post, they are coming your way.
32 months ago: Just when I thought I had won you over.
32 months ago: Ed, you know that this battle will not be won, we will both get our answer when we take our last breath.
32 months ago: Six, you will have to get God to come down to Earth and in front of all humans, tell us how he wrote the Bible by controlling several different humans minds.

He did that 2000 years ago, it's well documented. And He will be coming again, soon.
32 months ago: Ed, you have it backward. Why would I need to prove your Bible? And as for your statement that "He did that 2000 years ago, it's well documented" again, you are trying to prove something by using the very object that STATES that it is true as the proof and you know that you can't do that. It won't prove anything because it would be self fullfilling, it's circular logic, it's the cast iron pot calling the kettle black, you can not prove the Bible true by using the Bible as the proof. And that goes for all the documents that were used to assemble the Bible as well.

For all that want to now say that the proof is just by looking around me, all that will prove is that my mind precieves objects around me.

Yes agnostic is the safer bet, if you feel a need to believe in the possibility of a higher power, at least then you won't be trying to convince everyone else that YOUR way is the only way.
32 months ago: Torment - Hell - No way out?

Times have changed for the rich man (natural Israel) his days of splendour, the purple and fine linen are perished. No longer does he fare sumptuously, nor does he sit in a place of honour. He has died, been buried and now resides in a place called Hell. But then, in this state of torment he at last lifts up his eyes, eyes that were once blind to the need of the beggar at his gate. Now he sees the kingdom of heaven - Lazarus in Abraham's bosom.

'Therefore I say unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof' It is Judah (Jews, so called) represented here in this present dispensation.

He cries for mercy and alleviation of his pains, explaining how he is tormented in the flame. Consider the following for a moment if you will. If he was engulfed in the conflagration of Hell-fire as many suggest, how on earth would he be able to hold a conversation with someone else? Any human being having been caught in the midst of such a conflagration would be consumed, his hair burned off, his skin blistered into a scorched mass of epidermis, infinitely worse than third degree burns. The trauma of such a consuming fire, along with the shock to a human being would be intolerable. The human body would have no defence nor means of escaping the terrors of such a fiery frenzy. The rich man incarcerated in such a flame would scream for fear as he entered the conflagration, his screams ceasing almost immediately as his body would be gulped up by the consuming flames. He would disappear into the agony of silence and hopelessness.

Yet, this is not so as many believe for the rich man sees, converses with and prays for alleviation of his situation.

'And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame' Remember it was the tongue that cried 'Crucify him, crucify him'. Consider again the words of Jesus in Luke 13:28 'There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out' (Greek for 'shall see' means: with wide open eyes). He recognizes Abraham and Lazarus enjoying each others company in peace and contentment.

Within the rich man burned a word. 'Then I said, I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name. But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay' The word is of the kingdom, which Jewry has rejected when they crucified Jesus and ever since it has burned and consumed within them.

The tongue of Jewry cried out 'We have no king but Caesar' 'Crucify Him, let his blood be upon us and our children'.

The torment of Hell in which the rich man found himself was not a torture chamber of eternal punishments. (What human could cope with such an eternal condition? Why, the human body often dies from shock rather than the wounds it has suffered. The mind blanks out from the tragedies its body has suffered, in a surrender to the coma of death)

The rich man is in a place of testing, of learning and proving the quality of his life. God is not a monster, He is not a Himmler or a Stalin, not is He a God who requires sacrifice of living humans on red hot stones as Molech demanded. Indeed, God's own word abhors such practices and speaks clearly against them.

Nevertheless, fathers do find it expedient to administer pain to their children in a limited measure, so that their children are corrected and learn the right way. It is not inflicted from anger, malice or with venom, but in love so that the afflicted one might appreciate what is the right and correct way of life.

'For whom the Lord loveth He chastiseth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dea

That tells me that there are many Christians on Rant Rave, and they are observing this debate, and seeing scripture come alive, meaning there are some that would chose Barbabas, instead of Heaven.
32 months ago: What, are you volunteering to pay for me to come hear some Muslin talk about his hallucination? I'd need a car, hotel room, food and entertainment; probably set you back $500US, and then the wife would have to come with me as she isn't too keen on me running around without her supervision. Oh yeah, I have to be able to bring my electric wheelchair too, not able to walk long distances or stand for long periods of time, even with pain killers and I only fly 1st class, not enough booze in the back of the plane.

Actually you don't have to worry about it, I'm not all that interested unless he tells good stories and doesn't spend all his time preaching the Bible at me. I've already tried that route and really don't care for it anymore.

"Avatar" is now officially -- as Jack Dawson, the hero of the old box-office heavyweight, "Titanic," would say -- king of the world, internationally and domestically. James Cameron's "Avatar" has grossed over $601 million, officially making it the highest grossing domestic film of all time, and has surpassed the $2 billion (yes, billion!) mark in worldwide sales.
Two billion dollars! Think about that. A movie starring blue aliens and Sam Worthington -- an actor who, a year ago, no one had ever heard of -- just made $2 billion.

You are in the minority

32 months ago: argumentum ad populum. Just because it is the most popular does not mean it is the best. I have seen many, many indie films that are far better in terms of plot, character development, story, writing, directing and acting that have not made nearly this much money. Just because people flocked to see what Mr. Cameron's $500,000,000 remake of Dances with Wolves (this time with aliens) and to see what a really fancy computer can do does not make this a "great" or "the best" movie. Good movies rarely are wide released.

For a taste of what I consider to be "great" movies here is a short, and by no means all inclusive, list:

Garden State
Blue Velvet
Boondock Saints
The Matrix (ok this one was massively popular too, but it was actually good)
Mullholland Drive
Momento
Juno
Just to name a few...
32 months ago: Perfect Horizon - It stopped being cool to dislike popular things because they were popular about a decade ago. And if you really did fall asleep in the theater, dude you need to get your hearing checked out. There were ****ing explosions, yelling, epic music, gun fights, and hammerhead rhinos like every 5 minutes. I don't think you could have slept through that on a sleeping pill.

32 months ago: Once again, with the exception of a few big "kabooms" this movie is an exact remake of Dances with Wolves...a bad remake at that. Total snoozefest.
32 months ago: When the soundtrack is extremely loud and the film is perceived as boring, then, yes, you can fall asleep. It becomes white noise. I went with a bunch of friends, two of which fell asleep.

The film itself was the sleeping pill apparently.

32 months ago: some of you guys should really use spell check. Seriously.
Otherwise you just come across as extremely lazy and stupid.

32 months ago: Did you know that good spellers could be really stupid? I know quite a few, what did you say your name was?
32 months ago: And really intelligent people could be poor spellers, but lazy. Appearances and perceptions. You want people to believe you, you want them to think you are intelligent enough to be believable, yet you refuse to bother with one of the simplest ways of showing to others that you are intelligent and that what you have to say is important to you. Important enough for you to use the correct word, spelled correctly and in the proper tense, that you would check what you wrote before you posted it.

I don't mean check every little statement, but if it is an article that starts your rant or rave, damn right you should. Or a long comment that provides others with your insight into the original article. Check yourself. You wouldn't walk out your front door with your pants unzipped would you? Don't come out in public with your ignorance showing either. Laziness is no excuse either, it's just too simple to spell check (and Word will check other aspects of your sentence structure too).
32 months ago: Sixholdens pretty much made the case. I can only repeat what he has already written: if you out yourself as a writer and post on a site and want to be taken seriously, correct spelling and a modicum of halfway decent grammer are the tools to convey your message. And yeah, nowadays, with spellcheck, online dictionairies, etc there is no excuse except laziness or stupidity. Or both.
32 months ago: Anyone who fell asleep during Avatar, needs to get more sleep or not be under the influence of something that makes them sleepy before they go to a movie. Pretty sure you would have fallen asleep during ANY movie due to your poor physical condition at the time. That or your mind just can't focus for more than a few minutes at a time, something the rest of the adult world grew out of around age four.

I've watched it about five times and am still finding aspects of the movie I didn't catch the first few times. Yeah it has problems, yeah it took ideas from other movies. Now find me one single movie in the last 50 years that didn't.

32 months ago: I was well rested and excited to see the film. After about 20 minutes of being bored out of my mind I grew more and more sleepy.

Some problems? The whole movie was the problem.

Took ideas from others movies? It was an exact remake of Dances with Wolves, only this time its in the future with blue aliens...that's not some...that's the whole thing.

Regardless of all this...just because it has sold the most tickets does not make it the "best movie ever"...it makes it the most popular.
32 months ago: I'll have to watch DWW again. For some reason, possibly a fair memory of DWW's story line, the contention that Avatar is just like it, I don't see the similarity, at least not as closely as you.

Nope, selling the most tickets doesn't make it a better movie, it is just a gauge of how well it is received by the public.

32 months ago: Let me know what you think after watching it...it is identical...(minus the blue aliens and space ships)
32 months ago: Thankfully, we all still have our own minds and opinions. Or are we already in "1984"?
32 months ago: My wife still makes fun of me for falling asleep during "ALIENS" when we first saw it in the theatres. Talk about a loud shoot 'em up.

31 months ago: Interesting how this movie speaks volumes in different realms. My friend saw the locals being run over by Big Box. I saw Cowboys and Indians, - sort of.

14 months ago: I wonder how many see some Christian manifestations in this movie? Like:

Covertness sinful man, go into a paradise to move beautiful peaceful people from their home because their home is sitting on the most valuable ore ever, Jake Sully happens to be a man with a pure heart, when he meets this beautiful high spirited girl after saving him, she tells him to get lost.

The Holy Spirit comes all over him from the Spirit tree, coming to the end when man comes to wipe the Navi out, Jake goes to God (Spirit tree and prays from his heart) his Navi girl friend tells him that God is there to protect, but He will not answer such a pray, but He did, God called all the Giant beasts to fight the war for the Navi.

The commander of the attacking forces was evil (could be Satan or the anti Christ) the Scene when they were worshiping God in unity was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen that is the way it will be in Heaven.

OR

Do you think it is demonic, because they have long tails? and pointed ears?
I personally like their big eyes.
