Another NFL Draft, Raiders Blow it Again

Another great weekend of sports just passed, including some great hockey, basketball and the NFL Draft. The Red Sox also swept the Yankees, including Ellsbury stealing home, a nice way to conclude the weekend. Of all of these, the NFL Draft may have been the most boring, yet in some way it was also the most exciting for fans of teams who drafted well.

Unfortunately all I am hearing post draft is how great the Jets did in the draft. Maybe I am the only one who is skeptical of Matt Sanchez, his own coach didn't think he was ready, and if it wasn't for the lack of competition at the QB position in this draft he wouldn't look so great anyway. I think Josh Freeman from KSU is a better QB, in the mold of Big Ben and equally as strong in the pocket. And of course he gets picked up by Tampa Bay, they've swallowed up another QB and will likely ruin him. Maybe Josh Johnson can find a new home now, and show his talent...And just for honorable mention, Pat White going to Miami is scary. This guy is awesome, and if Big Bill can use him well, he is going to dominate. Well done Miami.

In the NFC North, that smash mouth division where my Chicago Bears sit, it looks like the Packers may have won the draft. B.J. Rali and Clay Matthews Jr. will be good, as will Underwood at CB. My Bears were interesting, apparently trying for Anquan Boldin and failing, and trading down some picks in the meantime and missing out on high level WRs. In the end, I think the pickup of Jarron Gilbert will be solid, he was the freak of the draft with the video of jumping clearly out of the pool, and benching something like 500 pounds. Iglesias should help as a possession receiver, and if Knox's speed lives up to the hype Cutler could make him look very good. I don't know if these draft picks mean that the Bears are giving up on going after a big name free agent receiver, but a lack of a first day pick should free them in salary to be able to spend what it takes. I'm optimistic for next year, which I haven't been able to say the last few years.

As a final note, the hockey playoffs have been great, especially the Penguins/Flyers series, and the Caps/Rangers series. Ovechkin is amazing, he never fails to impress, and the Penguins stars are doing enough to move on. The basketball playoffs have been enjoyable as well. My home town Nuggets have looked dominant, minus the last game in New Orleans, they should close the series quickly. There hasn't been a series as exciting as the Bulls/Celts in quite some time, last night's 2OT Bulls victory was great, what clutch shooting throughout. Go Bulls, put the Celts out of their KG-less misery.
