On Saturday, April 18th at Centre Bell, Montreal, Anderson "The Spider" Silva will go for a record 9th consecutive win streak. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)is the premier promotion for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and has been in business for the last 15 years. You can consider the UFC brand comparable and respectfully to the sports of the NFL, NBA, and the MLB. Needless to say, the UFC has the best fighters in the world in every weight division. If you want to fight the best then you go to the UFC.
Now this Saturday at UFC 97, Anderson Silva will be going up against Thales Leites who is a black belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Thales Leites is a very good fighter no doubt about it with a 14-1 record but Anderson Silva is the worlds best pound for pound fighter! Anderson Silva has a record of 23 wins and 4 loses.
Thales Leites has to do something that no one in the UFC has been able to do...beat him. If Anderson Silva wins on Saturday he will make history by winning 9 fights in a row. Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, and Tito Ortiz who are legends in the sport has never achieved that feat.
I think Joe Rogan, who is a UFC commentator said it best, "Anderson Silva makes world class fighters look like they don't know what they are doing". That statement is so true. Anderson silva fought Rich Franklin (TWICE)and won, Dan Henderson and won, Chris Leben and won. These wins were very brutal especially the Rich Franklin fights, ouch!
Anderson Silva is the Tiger Woods of MMA. He is a human highlight reel and the number fighter in the world. I really don't see Thales Leites winning this fight at all but I am looking forward to a good beat down.
