Somehow I have managed to miss the first few seasons of Morgan Spurlock's series, "30 Days." As you may have guessed, I am a fan of Morgan and his work, including "Super Size Me" and even "Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden." Even if these aren't your cup of tea, you should still give the series a try.
The series focuses on an individual, Morgan or others, being catapulted into a new way of life for 30 days. I have only just begun the first season, the show is now on the 3rd as aired on FX, but I am enthralled by it. The first disc of the DVD series had 3 very intriguing stories, "Minimum Wage," "Anti Aging" and "Muslims and America." All 3 of these were entertaining and enlightening, especially the first and last. I highly recommend them.
"Minimum Wage" involves Morgan and his girlfriend immersing themselves into minimum wage life. They move to Columbus, Ohio, get a cheap rental for the month, and attempt to live simply off of the basest of wages. This was a great study in how lopsided our economic system is, and how amazing it is that people are able to get by doing it, with families as well.
"Muslims in America" involves a staunch conservative Christian man from West Virginia who immerses himself in Muslim, America, better known as Dearborn, Michigan. This man's 30 day journey is touching and enlightening, especially as he actually embraces people instead of ideologies from his pulpit and local media. I wish this 30 day journey could be undertaken by all of the conservative Christian world, or at least though who refuse to see humanity behind the veil. I strongly recommend it.
