A Raptor Bird Watching Experience

I love all animals but raptors fascinate me. I would like to hear of your experiences with eagles, hawks, or raptors in general. There is no specific category to put this in, so I choose the best I could. The hawk is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Canada, Mexico, and North America and considered sacred to Native American cultures. Yesterday in the early afternoon I was in Norwalk, Connecticut and while sitting in my car facing a wooded area, a rather large bird landed in a tree several feet away even with my view. The bird seemed to be very curious about me, but I didn't understand how it could see me so clearly through the windshield of the car. I couldn't help but stare back at this beautiful specimen with soft brown feathers. I noticed distinctive darker markings on his breast, and I couldn't tell for sure what it was. I never saw one this close up, so this was a rare sighting for me. He seemed very curious and sat there several minutes before he swooped down over the windshield only about 4 feet above me with his head bent down looking directly at me. This was an awesome experience. Researching a bit, I found it do be a Red Tail Hawk. The bird carried some weight and the feathers looked soft brown all over. It was beautiful to look at. I noticed the wing span was somewhat shorter and thicker than an eagle's wing span. This had happened last winter when an eagle swooped down above our heads. There were 2 eagles and one followed the other curious about us. It is interesting to be able to interact with nature. I didn't see a category to put this in, but I wanted to write this anyway. I would like to know more about the Red Tail Hawk which I know is a common bird but to see it this close and interact was a rare opportunity.

This is fun to hear the sounds of the hawk and watch it.

I can't wait for someone to complain about how I ring a chickens neck.

A few years back, I had the opportunity to rescue one that had been dazed by an impact with a car. I kept it in my room, (illegally), with no cage or tethers for about a week, fed it raw meat out of my hand, and released it when I heard the Fish and Game authorities had found out about it.

You have to travel far usually a safari in Africa is where you see everything and get the real experience. You can even pet a full grown cheetah. I would recommend a safari to anyone as it is a trip of a lifetime.
You still saved the hawk. Good for you. You did what you could.
When you work at a zoo, or volunteer at centers, you get to be an animals caretaker and learn a lot about what they eat and their moods and temperaments. They depend on you and get to know you. It is all interesting, but you learn to have a great respect for them.

I realize many people without the knowledge don't have an understanding of the importance of animals to speak so disrespectful about God's creation. In this case this beautiful animal's instinct supersedes the total ignorance of the comments left here. I have never seen such jealousy of even an innocent animal. I suppose they don't know what it is to work as a scientist in a zoo park or rehab center in the furthest parts of the world. They wouldn't know the knowledge of science involved by being a docent in one of the largest aquariums in the world or teach children seining. What do these people have to offer in life except a bunch of stuff to get them noticed while ignoring life itself. The End.

Somehow I was under the impression that LSD was illegal.

Tell that to PETA for animal rights see if you have the intelligence to hold up to that man. We do know the head of that organization. How stupid can one get to blast beautiful creatures that God made?
Oh by the way, the salmon are abundant in Alaska and do jump into the boats without having to throw in a line. How little do you know about anything? I'm shocked at the stupidity of these comments. No respect for God's creation.
Cat fish are wonderful creatures. Try Brazil I have property there too.

I don't know which of the three talking heads here is sane. You don't say anything even reasonably intelligent. You got rid of every woman on the site and try to degrade them and then you have the nerve to go on a thread entitled War on Women. Nothing you sa or do makes any sense. You can't beat me. By the way, check your English.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!!

Exactly what kicks do you get from harassing people? Is it the anonymous(e) power of sitting behind your anonymous keyboard, able to say things from the safety of your living space that you wouldn't say if confronted face to face?

My guess is that perhaps you don't rule the roost in real life, and are venting your frustrations here in compensation.

Guys, there is really no point in finding fault with everything someone says, just because you have had a difference of opinion on more specific points. In other words, debate the subject, the idea, not the person. There is no room here at RantRave.com for personal attacks. I would also suggest not making public accusations unless you can back them up with some sort of evidence.

Thank you.
