Main Entry: rac·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\
Function: noun
Date: 1933
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

— rac·ist \-sist also -shist\ noun or adjective

REVERSE RACISM is a myth because there is no reverse..It's only racism. I keep seeing reverse racism this and that, more and more..I'm tired of it!!! If you are racist you are racist it does not matter if your black or white or yellow or red!! The very idea of reverse racism keeps us separated, it's saying that whites are not the same as any other race, it says that we cannot possibly feel hated on by another race. It's absurd. Let this be known, I am talking about racism today in 2009 not 1969 racism is racism--drop the reverse otherwise your discriminating yourself!

34 months ago: That's a very idealistic view, but are you sure it's not in fact colored by your experiences as a member of the most common race here? For over 500 years, black people weren't regarded as human by white people here. There are people alive today who remember a time they weren't allowed to vote because of the color of their skin. The success of the civil rights movement is still relatively recent.

Most racism and most racist violence in this country is still directed from white people to people of color. I think this is why so many people still use the term "reverse racism." It's literally the reverse of the far more common type of racism.

34 months ago: Yeah, Noni, I'm sure. It is a view colored by the definition of racism. There is no such thing as reverse racism. It is all just plain old racism, regardless of what color the racist is.
33 months ago: There is only one race anyway -HUMAN. It's necessary that at this time people begin to see themselves as part of the same family and equal creations from the same source. This is a critical attitude if we are at all serious about ending "racism." Acts 17:26.

First you assumed I was white because of this comment..we should not assume. While I agree you have heard much more over the years as to how racist whites are I know there ate and have been quite a few racists of other ethnicites who may not have been so vocal. Also you really think that there is more racism directed white to black than black to white these days ..not sure bout that. The news calls almost any crime a white commits a black a hate crime but rarely calls crimes on whites by blacks hate crimes. Its a double standard and the numbers are skewed..besides who is one of the biggest racists in the county but rarely gets called on it and in fact he will turn the race card to the accuser? Its al sharpton. He his incited riots that have killed jews..oh no one cares cuz he's black right? He can't be racists right? Ya right. People have that ingrained in their heads from an early age that blacks can't be racist and if you white your the scourge of the earth..BS

Anyone who has grown up intimately associated with members of other races knows that what you say is true for the most part.
People who have led largely segregated lives cannot really understand that there are blatant racists in every group, and closet racists in every group. They take the comparatively few cases of racism in modern life and try to compare it to the whole.
They also forget to account for the fact that, proportionally, there would necessarily be more cases of white racism than other races. Even if we were all one skin color, I'm sure there would be people who would dislike differing hair color.
The great philosopher and social commentator, Dr. Seuss,
did a great piece from his observations of human nature, entitled "Stars upon Thars". It's a little deep and obscure at times, but overall, a fetching, lighthearted approach to understanding racial bias.

33 months ago: mulletman, I think you misunderstood me. I actually agree with you about there being little difference between racism from a white person and racism from someone of another ethnicity. I was merely trying to explain why the term "reverse racism" is still used.
