The mayor facing a range of pressures wants parks cleared at 12:01 Am. Sunday political support for occupy Portland encampment in two downtown parks officially ended on its 35th day, with perhaps the last person to reach that conclusion major Sam Adams also the only city leader with sole discretion to shut it down growing criminal activity, drug use and homeless concentrations may have overtaken Portland's tent city and its anti wall street origins. But in resent weeks city officials strategically detailed the stream of safety problems within the camp that laid the groundwork for Thursday's announcement giving campers until 12:01 a.m.sunday to clear out you also have to ask has it gone on to long? Did they have enough time to get their message across to all that would listen? Is it time to go home unless like they said where are we suppose to go? They are making home made weapons some said they would never leave but when is it enough garbage all over and there was some human feces on the ground animals are involved in this their getting free food but couldn't pick up after themselves portable pottys where put there some was inclined to use them they still think they have to camp there we have drug users and the disabled adults are involved some I can see others I don't the city has to clean up the mess some can't use the parks because of this and others just go find another someone has to make a decision said Adams who reiterated that safety concerns had eclipsed the movement's free speech message.

When no clear ideology or goals are enunciated then the mess, and the problems are used to define the movement.

The problem is that the Occupy movement has been helping the Homeless and that a lot of those people have problems. Drunks, addicts, people with psychological problems. These people were out on the street before and society just ignored them, but there was a lot of violence, arguments, drug problems and unsanitary behavior since there are no toilets available to them. The papers just ignored them. The thing is that none of those folk would willingly choose that lifestyle. Society might have already thrown away these individuals like yesterdays trash to slowly die on the streets, but they are still human beings deserving of compassion and respect.

If they are treated as human beings they respond and most of them change their unacceptable behavior.

Once they were welcomed to the Occupy sites for food and safe shelter, some of that behavior followed, although the sites have peacekeepers, and insist on rules and civil behavior. It doesn't matter, once at the Occupy site they are used to denigrate the movement.

The movement isn't just about helping the homeless, it is about the societies injustices that caused them to become homeless.

The movement is about the same thing that caused the the Arab Spring. People just want freedom and the ability to support their families and there can be no freedom without jobs and health.

86% of the people in the country think that Wall Street and the 1% have too much power over government and they are angry that they no longer have a voice in their own government. They are not just camping, they are exercising their 1st amendment rights to petition their government to correct the injustice just as Martin Luther King did.

The Occupy folk are manning the barricades for freedom, equality, and fraternity just as the revolutionaries in Les Misreables.
