Would you like sex with that?

Continuing on in my quest to POST TOPICS instead of just commenting on others'... Shall we?...

I don't know about where you live, but here in the Northwest we've had a huge increase in these "bikini barista" coffee places. You know, the little drive-thru espresso stands where the girl making your coffee is wearing something OTHER than clothes.

Okay, so I totally understand that SEX SELLS, but this is getting to be a LITTLE bit rediculous! I mean, if I want to stop somewhere for coffee in the morning (and not pay $6/cup) do I really have to see your boobies hanging out? What if they get in my coffee?

Here's another issue I have. These chicks come to work with everything but their woman-parts showing, but LEGALLY, to serve "food," they have to wear CLOSED-TOED shoes?? Does that seem right to you? No, not me either.

Here's what peeves me:

I understand that there is a time and place for naked women... but SIX AM at a DRIVE-THRU ESPRESSO STAND is NOT IT!!!

People who want to pay to see chicks naked can go to Deja Vu. That's what they're there for! And who do these chicks think they're fooling? Do they really believe that they aren't skanks because they are serving up coffee? Do they really think that that makes them not ho-ish? "I serve coffee. I'm not a ho because I'm not dancing on a table for money." Seriously? If that's what they think, they've got another thing coming! I, for one, think they are MORE skankish because of that. I mean, strippers KNOW that they are STRIPPERS! These bikini baristas (I'm assuming) don't think they are strippers. But they are. You just don't have to wait to see them with their clothes off, they come to work already like that.

There is actually one of these places by my husbands work (it used to not be a ho place) were they have "theme" days. Like Friday is "Fantasy Friday" where the girls can wear a Santa costume... or Monday is "Military Monday" so they wear camo print underwear, etc. So it's not just bikinis here. It's anything to make the girls look like prostitutes.

What if I were driving in an unfamiliar area, wanted a coffee, and pulled into one of these places with my young children in the back seat of my car? "Can I take your order?" and out pops a naked woman! Great, now I have to explain to my kids why they just witnessed an "R" rated scene first hand.

Urgh, these places get on my nerves. And they are EVERYWHERE now!!! I've already decided that if I were to pull into one of these places, not knowing, I would just drive away once I got up to the window.

I think my brother summed it up the best:
Every father that goes to one of these places deserves to see his daughter standing there, half naked.

And I'd like to add this:
And every husband that goes to a bikini coffee stand deserves to see his wife standing there... with a man in the other window gawking at her.

Get a life, find a better job, or go work at a strip club (or a corner) where you belong.

Do they sell biscuits?

I have to admit. Hooters does sell good breasts that I can go face down on. Hooters rump roast is to die for!
31 months ago: Thanks!

And get this... I meant to put this in the post also, but it slipped my mind...

This year, for the 4th of July, there was a fireworks stand in my hometown that has bikini "babes" selling fireworks. It was called Nearly Nake Fireworks. Can you believe that!?! The community was pretty much outraged, being a fairly conservative populous, but they did an article about it in the paper, and there were several bloggers that were like, "Thanks! Now I know where I'm buying my fireworks this year."

DISGUSTING!!!!!!
31 months ago: Not that I want to advertise this, but here is a link to the news article about the fireworks stand:

and for more...

If you pull up the first article, and look at the picture, notice the sign that is behind the girl that reads:

"Don't be afraid to stare. That's what there here for."

(Nevermind they spelled "there" wrong)
This is so sickening...
and where does it STOP!?! Are we going to be walking into Safeway one day, or pulling up to get gas, and have the checker girl wearing nothing but a bikini top and a stripper skirt???

31 months ago: Paying six bucks for a cup of coffee? This way of marketing is downright skanky. If it becomes too widespread, the thrill will wear off and a lot of these places will go under.
31 months ago: Let me clarify a couple things:

RSG, yes, if you go to a Starbucks, you will be paying anywhere from $4-6+ for a latte. I think their "black" coffee is cheaper, but if you want anything more fancy than that, it'll cost ya.

Rudi, these bikini places are not the ones charging $6. What I was getting at is this, if you do NOT want to pay $6 at a place like Starbucks, your options are limited to the drive-thru stands... which are turning more and more into these bikini places. And yes, it is shockingly skanky. But unfortunately, I don't see a decline in it any time soon.

amishking... come on over to Washington State. If you drive past one coffee joint, there's a fairly good chance the next one you see is one of the ones you'll want to "avoid." ;D

And really? A dry cleaners? Isn't that potentially a little dangerous for their, ah... "friends" ???
31 months ago: I do not believe that the human body is something to be ashamed of. I have taught my children that nudity is not a bad thing and that modesty is the better way to go. None of my children are nudist and neither am I, nor do we parade around the house in our birthday suits or change, bath or do anything else that will expose our privates to each other. BUT, if the need were to arise, we would not run and hide and be overly embarrassed by exposing ourselves as needed. Nor do we make a big deal out of other peoples exposure. Even the grandkids, while they are young, are allowed to swim in whatever they desire or not. As they grow older they become more reserved and learn to cover themselves, not by force but because they want to.

Prudishness is a curse upon our land. The fear of showing your body to your neighbor at times outweighs common sense and safety issues. We should be more like our ancestors before the advent of religions that made us embarrassed about our natural form, even in the middle ages a breast was not considered a nasty object to see, it was perfectly natural. I’m not saying they flaunted them in front of everyone all the time, but a woman nursing a baby in public was not considered voyeurism by anyone. Go back a few hundred more years and you will find that woman didn’t wear tops all the time, they worked in the fields just like men, topless and no one thought anything of it and the games people played that were athletic, they were usually done nude in front of huge crowds.

Now for the issue at hand. I agree with you hl, I too object to being served food from a naked or partially naked person. Only difference is, I don’t consider wearing a bikini being partially naked. All the erotic parts are supposed to be covered aren’t they? It is inappropriate dress, but not much worse than a low cut blouse or a sleeveless low cut blouse, in fact, the bikini probably covers more than either of those!
31 months ago: As for your children’s reaction to a barely clad human, I would hope you have taught them that the human body is not a ugly thing to see, there are ugly ones but the basic human form should not be shunned when exposed, nor should it be gawked at and without teaching our young the difference we risk turning them into prudes or perverts.

I don’t drink coffee so no fear of my running into any of those kiosks around here, for that matter, the likelihood of anyone being scantily clad in one is pretty scarce, I do live in the Bible Belt.
31 months ago: "I have taught my children that nudity is not a bad thing and that modesty is the better way to go."

This is exactly my point, six. MODESTY is not being observed in these places. I guess everyone has their own definition of what modesty is, but my definition does not include half nude women serving anything.

"I’m not saying they flaunted them in front of everyone all the time, but a woman nursing a baby in public was not considered voyeurism by anyone."

"...you will find that woman didn’t wear tops all the time, they worked in the fields just like men, topless and no one thought anything of it and the games people played that were athletic, they were usually done nude in front of huge crowds."

This is the difference between then (the good ol' days!) and now. Now, a breast is a HIGHLY sexified object. Back then a breast was mearly something to feed an infant with, and not something they implanted to make bigger and more noticed.

I do not plan on teaching my kids that the naked human body is anything other than a beautiful gift from God. We are made in His image and likeness and so we should not be ashamed. That being said, I do not want my daughters to grow up thinking serving coffee to a dirty old man while he stares at her "goodies" is an acceptable form of income. I want my daughters to have SELF RESPECT and to save their nudity for their HUSBAND.

In this day and age, more and more, it is okay for women to show themselves to the masses. And I'm going to guess it's only going to get worse as the years go by. I do not want my kids to think their bodies are to be exposed in a crude fashion. And that is exactly what these places are allowing the women who work their to do.

31 months ago: Yes Howleanne is right. These places only perpetuate the notion that a female body part is fair game to ogle in an environment where she plops it out for all to see. It is nothing but visual prostitution.

I don't know how those other countries pull it off; Japan and its public baths, where entire families swim in the buff together, and yet has one of the lowest rates of sexual crime, Sweden, with its public coed steam rooms and lodges, these are two that come to mind. Not to mention the countless groups of "uncivilized" people the world over who go about their entire lives naked or nearly so.

It is the naughtiness factor of the half-nude establishments that continues the notions in both men's and women's minds that this is some kind of way to be bad, without actually getting your hands dirty.
31 months ago: I see two very valid points here from my perspective. One being that this is an intentional use of the female anatomy to increase business. I think howleanne has a legitimate complaint as in this case either intentionally or otherwise it is being put into a "normal" setting which places people such as her children or others in exposure to it.
Personally I don't condone this type of intentional use of women to sell things but I also feel that in a "free" country there will be people that do things which are not considered good behavior by all but it goes with the territory of being free. I think the problem here is business zoning. I think our forefathers had it pretty much figured out when they put certain businesses in districts. Of course this tends to centralize crime to that area but at least the Police know what to prepare for when going to that area. Without placing it in a certain area it becomes as some have pointed out a move to "normalized" behavior.
I also think it is a good point in which we can't go back across the line of feeling our bodies are by nature "dirty" things, such as in the Victorian era. I liked the way Out of the Box put it in that it seems it is the "naughtiness factor" which is the dividing line in my opinion.
I would say if a business intentionally uses "sex" or the naughty angle to ply it's wares or if sex is it's wares then it should be placed in a red light district and that way people can avoid such things or have the freedom to seek them out. It is certainly not a perfect solution but I don't think it should be placed in the community just anywhere as if to imply peddling skin is an acceptable practice.
29 months ago: At first when I was reading this I was wondering why you were overreacting. Then Ii got to the part about one of these being near your husbands job, now I understand what stick got up your butt. If your scared of your husband flirting with these girls than ask him not to go. If you don't like seeing them then DON'T GO. Nobody is making you. As for not wanting your kids to see girls in bikinis, your kids must have a sad life.... not being able to go to the beach, river, or pools... because GOD FORBID they see someone is a bikini! they might be scarred for life. Get over it. This is a free country... LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

29 months ago: So maybe you have no problem with that beautiful baby girl in your profile pic growing up to get gawked at by strange old men in a coffee shop, wearing next to nothing? Or maybe the coffee shops will tear down some more barriers, and perhaps by the time your daughter grows up, maybe coffee won't be the only thing you can buy there.

27 months ago: Some very good points all around here. The problem seems to be not the fact that there are women wearing bikinis selling coffee and fireworks. The problem lies in the fact that the managers of these establishments are using that 'naughtiness factor' to sell they're crap! They're saying "Hey! You there! Buy your stuff here and you can slobber over some nice knockers while you're doing it!" There's nothing wrong with scantily clad women -they're everywhere you go anyway...- it's that these women aren't just wearing bikinis anymore. Working in a place that uses that kind of marketing is more like hanging a sign over you head that has "I'm a sexual object!" in bold print. Going to the beach and having a good time around a bunch of people wearing bathing suits is a lot different than going to a coffee stand and buying coffee from a women that is trying to get you to stare at her breasts. That being said, America is a land of the free, and that gives those with low moral standards some generous leeway when it comes to business ventures. If they want to sell sex, they can, and I doubt that's going to change any time soon. Hopefully all the morally sound people that notice these issues focus on explaining this whole process to their children and properly educating them. After all, our kids are the ones who will eventually be running and making use of those bikini-whatever stands.
