Alright, I can see how everyone on here likes to debate with each other. I also concede that I am most certainly in the bottom of the barrel intellectually, but perhaps it is getting to be time to look outwards towards a new fights instead of at one another and his/her political views?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/asia_pa...

"'If South Korea takes any provocative actions against us in terms of political, economic and military measures, backed by the United States, we will respond with war for justice,' said the state-run KRT television channel. "

Breaking news? No, not particularly. However, threats bigger than a conservative or liberal thinking politician are brewing elsewhere. Perhaps, looking from the outside, countries like North Korea are just waiting for internal issues to get so big they can just pull that last straw and do something outlandish. I personally find them to be fairly insane anyways, but you get my point.

Basically, all I'm really saying is that it's starting to look somewhat like the Cold War all over again. Little by little places like Iran and North Korea are making claims and threats about nuclear weapons, and finally even sinking a ship. Are they empty threats? I guess we'll find out, one allied vessel already went under..

Yes, I'm young and most likely less informed than the rest of you. Yes, I'm a conservative thinker so far. But, most of all I'm an American and North Korea can kiss my "rear end", if you know what I mean.

I also enjoy Mountain Dew.

I for one say drop a small field tactical nuke in the middle of the dessert from a battleship 20 miles offshore and let them see the glass field. Then let them know our ships, planes, trains and buses have the GPS for all soon to be glass holy sites.

UH, it is your choice to pull the trigger.

24 months ago: I won't lie, I look at these issues with probably the wrong idea. If North Korea sat there and started shooting their own people or some other nation I don't know much about, fine. I'll turn the other cheek, I know it's wrong but whatever.

But, when you start shouting threats at the US; then I tend to get a little irritated.

Didn't the guy in charge over there claim to have shot like an 18 in a round of golf? That should just annoy people everywhere.. everyone has at least played mini-golf.
24 months ago: Here is the logic....

I have 1000 tactical nukes ready to be deployed....

I keep being attacked but hold those 1000 tactical nukes and do not deply a single one...

I rely on the mindset that people can be talked to and will understand...

What good is that 1000 tactical nukes unless I send one and decrease the number to 999 while showing I will release if provoked?

The 1000 in a shoebox is worthless.

The one out of the shoebox will change the world since they will know there might be 999 from the shoebox coming.

24 months ago: I completely agree with your reasoning, Sir. I just don't see our current leaders doing such a thing.

The only thing I can see ; what if someone fires a warning missile back? Then all hell can break loose and if I get bombed I will not be pleased. But, retaliation is a risk we have to take. Fortunately I am overly patriotic and believe in the badass-ness of America to scare the bejeezes out of everyone else.
24 months ago: Sorry, I said tactical. Not, thermonuclear missiles.

I said lob a small taste of what you will get into a desert.

If they what to try their best by sending a nuke to any (ANY) country or even if they just mislaunch during testing and send a non-nuke missile to any (ANY) country they should be hit hard by taking out the infrastructure first.

Electric, water, supply lines (bridges, rail, etc), food.

Secondary targets to follow.

24 months ago: Like I said (or tried to say), I completely agree with your outlook on the situation. I just don't see them actually putting it into practice. I'm sure at one point or another you've read about "The Great White Fleet"?

If not, here it is:
http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq42-1...

Anyways, I think we need some sort of display of American supremacy. Supremacy probably sounds arrogant or mean to some, but hell if I care. In my opinion there's no point in playing if you're not going to win. So, why not be the biggest and best around if you bother existing as a nation at all? Nobody wants to be seen as the country with no sack.

24 months ago: empire, please, having an empire involves forcibly taking land and never intend to give it back, I doubt anyone actually wants to keep either of the sand holes we are currently fighting. sure they have oil, but the amount of oil they have compared to the headache of the insurgency and the fact that its a god dammed dessert with nothing make it pretty much undesirable.

and I like how regardless of which side of the road people are on, if they dont like a policy but don't have a real argument against it, they just start comparing people to hitler. I mean ****, all great men have been compared to hitler, even I've been compared to hitler before.

24 months ago: Thank you Noodle. The US has eventually left and given back the land. Try and tell me places like Germany wouldn't have made decent extensions to the mainland? But no, it was given back.

Just accept it, some people like to sit and get all hot and bothered over these issues that we, the normal person, really have no power over to do anything.

We can grip all we want about policies, but it will be about as successful as me boxing with a grizzly bear.

24 months ago: You are right about fighting a bear in national politics but I feel education to different opinions is key in creating a culture that does not buy into common misconceptions.
Noodle you hit hard on a common misconception about America not being and Empire and Ghost rider discussed how America has given up conquered land. Both are common class room views on American History but we should not buy into this view.

The West was were the the American Empire started to grow. However, it was not like a traditional Empire with a large military to gain new territory. The reason for this non-traditional Empire was that the west had been mostly depopulated by plagues before settlers got there. The rest of the native population was easy to move and exterminate with the small but veteran calvary forces. In reality, the west was America's colonies.

After the west had been conquered America took the Spanish Philippines and Cuba. At the time it was claimed America was providing liberty but neither nation received for almost 80 years. during that time American forces suppressed several large rebellions on the Philippine Islands. In 1899 the Philippine government declared war on the United States to gain its freedom and a brutal war followed. American troops won three important battles that crushed the Filipino Army. When the war turned to Guerrilla Warfare, American troops became more brutal. Troops shot surrendering soldiers and herded whole villages into concentration camps. The war ended with between 200,000-500,000 Filipinos killed.

We only gave them there freedom after WWII mostly because we controlled Japan and the Philippines had little military or economic value.

Cuba is a similar story and not until the Bay of Pigs did America stop trying to control Cuba, However, we have recognized the country officially.

America is one of the most successful Empires in the history of the world and it is fascinating that the American Public does not see America as an Empire.

I am a very large fan of Us history so I thoroughly enjoyed reading your statement. I was just trying to avoid giving everyone a history lesson to save their own time (don't take that as an insult, as it wasn't meant to be because I really enjoyed your comment). But you are completely correct and even provided historical evidence to back up your argument which even when researched can not be argued.

I guess what I was really getting at is that; the days of a country going to another continent and setting up colonies are over. Liberal or conservative views aside, I think we can all agree that those days are over.

On a side note, if anyone here thinks they have an abundance of historical knowledge feel free to enlighten me on any topic. It might even be a breath of fresh air to some from the liberal vs. conservative battle that seems to never end on here.

You may think that we are doing nothing, but behind the scenes diplomatic maneuvering is accomplishing much more than Bush's blustering ever did. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/05/18/...

Right now North Korea is isolated in the world with only China unwilling to act against them. With diplomacy we are trying to change that also.

At no point was I suggesting Hitler be voted into office. Stop being an over dramatic child.

Altruist: You make a good, sound argument. I can see where you can be partial to talking things out. I don't really want to go to war with anyone, I just want a display of basically, "Hey, this is what we can do no back off".
