It seems to me everywhere I look, I read, I see the effects of big business. The ones where we line their pockets with gold and they line our bellies with rot, clothe us in chemicals, then stand at the drugstore to collect more gold while we fight off the effects of poisons that leech into us.
These of course our my opinions, my rantings, yet I believe that we all need to become more active, in protecting ourselves against the slow slaughter that seems to be killing us all.
We read the stories. More importantly, we are the stories.
As I read the story of Lisa Connell, who fights to raise money for brain tumor research. I am touched by her strength. I see she was just one person.
We read today so much information. People across the globe are suffering. We as humans suffer from numerous disease and sickness. Where does it all come from?
Our planet is suffering. The earth itself is crying out. The waters are crying out. The creatures are crying out. The cries often seem silenced by the sounds of progress.
I don't claim to know anything, yet the cries are reaching my ears. It is harder for me to ignore them, when ever where I turn, I come face to face with them. A broken human being, a helpless child, a suffering creature, a forest that is now barren land. A planet that is in need of intervention.
We all have heard the cries, yet often we think that we really cannot do much. Sure I chip in here and there when I can.
Yet, then I think, it only takes one, one spark. We are all one, and yes if each one does something it does make a difference.
Today more then ever we need to start making choices for ourselves. For our families, for their future, for the future of this world.
I know sometimes it costs more to eat organic. I cannot always afford all organic products, but where and when I can, I buy them. Slowly my goal is to turn over to only organic. Many people say what's the difference. Well there is a difference. A major difference, pesticides, herbicides. The use of land, that is not going to become toxic waste land. Not to mention, ME, my body, my health, my families health.
You know I am tired of paying high prices for food that is no better then eating garbage. Where the suppliers opt to choose the cheapest ingredients they can so they can turn a profit. A profit that in the long term has cost you and I much. Has cost our world much. It is time we as people, as one, put our foots down, and say stop!! We work hard for our money, we have a right to demand quality, we have the right to know what we are paying for.
How many times have you seen children in countries picking through garbage, we do the same at our grocery stores. We are picking through organized, well marketed garbage! Then we take it home and eat it.
Of course is not only food, what about our water. I live in a community by a lake. In the summer the motor boats and sea-doos are everywhere. As the town grows, so do the number of recreation vehicles. Our water is polluted, and most of the time you cannot swim at the beach. In fact I put a pool in for my kids. Why can't we just use canoes, or kayaks. I would love to have a motor boat sometimes, yet my conscience says NO.
There are many areas that we need to change in our life. Walk when we can to the store, or ride a bike, take the bus, car pool. Choose carefully what you put in your mouth, in your body and on your body. Recycle garbage, refuse to buy overly packaged goods.
There are so many ways we can help, we must help put the pressure on our governments to do more. We must say no to ourselves and not make purchases from businesses that pollute our world. We must take what ever steps we can, no matter how small. Every action counts.
I am thankful to the David Suzuki's of this world. To those who have started to educate us, so that we can help in changing the future of this planet, the future of our world, our future.
We each as individuals must step in, step up, and help out. Governments will not do it all. We all have to do it. Sadly we make the mistake thinking we are doing enough when we need to do more.
