I don't know about you, but all over the TV news here, I am being bombarded with a topic that I just cant for the life of me understand why people care about this enough that it would actually make the news.
Apparently Mel Gibson, made famous by going on a drunken tirade about jews, has messed up again amd a tape featuring him screaming and ranting to his girlfriend. This tape features him saying some racist statements against black people and various insults and threats of violence toward his girlfriend.
This is why I hate TV news. Every time I watch it, I want to beat my own head with the Remote Control. What of this is relevant to anything important? Why do people care about this?
Who among us have not said things over the phone that we would rather not have heard? Who among us has not said something a little Politically incorrect? We all have done it, so why does this guy's ranting matter more than anyone elses?
The reason is, is that this messed in the head county idolizes celebrities and when they mess up it becomes the fall of angels. It becomes the tragedy of the century because the worshipers have felt a betrayal.
I can not understand why we do this. Why do people emotionally invest into celebrities? Some might say that it is merely the media shoving it down people's throats, but like any business, the media give only what its customers want. The people want this, they want to feel the heat of the torch that they get to finaly hold when they chase the monster that the whole village knows about.
Its easy to demonize celebrities like that, it is easy because it is easy to demonize anyone. We take these people that are no different than us, put them on a pedestal, so they can be ripped apart like cows in a slaughter house.
People are even saying that Mel Gibson needs to apologize to the black community, claiming that he has deeply and negatively affected them. How can they say this seriously? This is not like he went into a NAACP meeting and started screaming the "N word" with a burning cross in his hand. He was talking to his girlfriend and screaming at her, the only person that should want an apologize is her.
People need to get over this, and by this I do not just mean this incident. I mean that they need to get over this celbrity worship that is so rampant in this society. The economy is bad, the streets are filling with homeless, we are killing animals in the gulf, politicians are slowly destroying our nation, and none of this gets half of the air time that one celebrity tirade gets.
This is the entirty of his life that we should really care about unless we know him personally. "Edge of darkness" good movie, "Mad Maxx" Great movie, "signs" not so much.
One of these days, i am going to learn that i will never see any real news on Television..
