No. This rant is not about who is up for dinner tonight. It is about "who is" for dinner tonight. Right now it does not look like a hard choice from this viewers perspective.

Hey Slime. The offer still stands until 11:59:59 tonight.

Hey Justincase, could you be stalking?

Hey Alacts_, huh?

What happened to Pluto Obamagram?

Please. Tell me. I'm dinner tonight. Let's rock.

15 months ago: Oh, THAT'S what you meant by your title. I thought it might be a reference to Franklin's definition of "democracy" being two wolves and a sheep/rabbit/some such voting upon what's on the menu while liberty is an armed sheep (or whatever) contesting the outcome of the vote. Sort of like the graphic on the right hand column of Mike Vanderboegh's Sipsey Street Irregulars site. The Dutchman has a graphic of an M1 Carbine with the caption ""When Democracy Becomes Tyranny I STILL get to vote."

I like that thought. Of course if things get to that point I'll not be voting with an M1 Carbine. Nope got a nice, shiny new (ok, flat black) FNAR 7.62X51 mm NATO round firing rifle. I plan to work up to being able to hit a saucer at a quarter mile. I bought it strictly for post-apocalypse home defense purposes. That and hunting. It'll drop anything I'm likely to encounter south of Colorado. Put paid to any varmint - whether 4-legged or 2-legged.

Be seeing y'all.
15 months ago: I am Canadian, so pardon my query...
does "FNAR" 7.62X51 mm "NATO" stand for...

"Fire, Now, And, Reload"... "New, American, Trust, Option?"
15 months ago: Don't feel bad Truth! Most Americans don't know what is stands for either...

15 months ago: FNAR is a rifle manufactured by FN Herstal (of Belgium IMS). It is a semi-automatic, magazine fed rifle in the .30 caliber family.

7.62X51 mm NATO indicates that it is chambered to fire the 7.62x51 millimeter NATO round that was standard with NATO. You remember NATO, don't you? North Atlantic Treaty Organization? IMS Canada is a member?

The 7.62X51mm round was the NATO standard (see above for explanation of what NATO stands for) before the M-16 family of rifles chambered for the 5.56X45mm cartridge were adopted.

Here's a link to a photo of the weapon: http://www.mpguns.com/images/FNAR.jpg

This is the blurb on FN Herstal USA's site
Descending from the legendary Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), the FNAR puts autoloading speed and bolt-action accuracy into one powerful package. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (308 Win.), the FNAR is available with either a 16" or 20" cold hammerforged MIL-SPEC fluted barrel with hard-chromed bore and recessed target crown. The matte black synthetic pistol grip tactical stock is fully adjustable. The FNAR is equipped with multiple MIL-STD 1913 rails for mounting your choice of optics, lights and lasers. The FNAR is the ideal competition and practical rifle when both speed and power are your top priorities

Sorry for the failure to communicate. And for the record, I am not any sort of "gun nut". I simply believe that things are about to get very unsettled very soon and I am preparing for that eventuality. Call me crazy or loony or a wacko if you wish but that is my perception and I am acting upon it and preparing for it. Truth be told I would love to be wrong on this one. I also plan to contact a couple of friends of mine who hunt to see if I can join them when they go hunting deer this coming fall.

15 months ago: You can't beat those FN 7.62mm pieces. I have a heavy barrel FNFAL that is dead on, 10 inch target, iron sights, from 300 yards, even with my old eyes. And unlike some of the lighter 308s and 7.62s, it hardly kicks at all. I can't wait to get a scope mount put on it.

BadCyborg, get 'em before you can't. Best deal I've found so far.

15 months ago: Not bad. Hitting a 10 inch plate at 1/4 mile with iron sights. Just imagine how far you could "reach out and touch someone" when you add the scope! When it hits the fan your welcome in Texas. Bring your hardware!

15 months ago: Ah, Box. That link is for 7.62X54mm ammo. Like the Dragunov sniper rifles use. The best price I could find there is $7.99 for a 20 round box of Wolf Russian made steel cartridge case ammo.

Aim Surplus is selling surplus German 7.62 NATO ammo in sealed, waterproof PVC battlepacks of 10 20rd boxes for $79.95. If you get 5 or more boxes you get them for $77.95 each.

I don't like the Russian stuff. I used it - once - in my Baby Eagle .40 cal pistol and never again. Had a couple of hang fires and a stove pipe. Using WinClean for target ammo now.

Unfortunately, I can't find anyone who has actually shot the German stuff either. I bought some. Going to use it to sight in the FNAR (bought a relatively simple reflex sight since it doesn't have iron sights) this morning. Let me know if you want me to tell you how that ammo shot. If it does OK - which I would expect what with it being German and all and sealed - I'm going to order another 1K rounds. Got an Appleseed weekend training session coming up the weekend after tax day (ides of April?). Plus I want to work up to a coffee cup at 440 yards. Need a good scope for that I reckon.

15 months ago: Thanks, BC, I was having a senior moment. You saved me from having to buy another gun, although I wouldn't mind having another one of those. I bought a x54mm Mosin-Nagant rifle at a dollar type store (Roses) for $40, about 30 years ago.
Didn't even have to show my I.D., it was unused, still in the original crate, and still covered with the original cosmoline. Cleaned it up and took it target shooting, it was a bit heavy for my tastes at the time, but would turn a cinder block into a shower of gravel and dust. I think you can still get them for under $100.
15 months ago: Aww guys... I was just playin... I took basic training and had to leave early before I punched out my superior officer... did catch up with him on the street though... anyway ...just funnin!
15 months ago: Don't worry Truth. We weren't. Your welcome to come to Texas when it hits the fan. We will need Chaplains that can reach out and touch people at a quarter mile.
15 months ago: I prefer a 270 Winchester... it doesn't handle the heat well but I can put 3 shots in a nickel at a 100y... and at 400y inside a 6" balloon on a calm day...

15 months ago: I said Chaplain. You can't pray for lost souls from a quarter mile?
15 months ago: TCG,

I'm pray'in for you ain't I?
15 months ago: Quarter mile should be a walk in the park!
15 months ago: Funny. You really think I'm a lost soul? Please enlighten me. How so? One must know how they are judged before they can take that first step.
15 months ago: TCG,

Where I come from prayer is a welcomed thing... and I sure didn't mean you were lost, I pray for everyone... especially OOTB! It is a "phrase" of indearment, looks like my humor has me really stepping in it on this one...
15 months ago: Sorry. Maybe it was the way it came across in the thread. Your right. Everyone needs others to pray and not prey for them. I'm just being the provocateur.

15 months ago: Hey Box? How much do you want to bet? SGs posts with thousands of views and ZERO comments keep going up while she is online using her trick toy? Funny how that works eh? How is it a post with Zero comments is weighed higher that one with comments? Anyhoo. Watch her work her stuff. I have already figured it out.
15 months ago: Right now there are 4 post listed in the top section with 11,599 views and a total of 7 comments between all of them. Funny how that works eh?

Real important and conversational topics.....?

What would that comment to hit ratio be?

Now every now and again I have a grey moment, this is one of those times. But this is a real question, how can a subject get all those hits and no comments?

15 months ago: I think I can answer this one. They have a network of Facebookers, twitterers, and backlinkers, who all Wall, "like", tweet, and backlink to each others' posts.

We had one fellow who built up a following on Twitter and it was nothing for him to get 5000-10000 hits on every post.

The other way is to write about something relevant, current, and trending. Even without GN, you can get pretty high in the rankings if you post early enough to beat the crowd, and your post is optimized for search engine relevance.
15 months ago: That is only one part of the puzzle...
