What the heck is it with publishers these days? I read the new continuations of the Beast Master books and they just plain SUCKED! The characters were NOT Norton characters, her characters NEVER, EVER WHINED!! What the heck is it, do editors not even know the writing style of their classic authors? (Shoot, I can fix these books, but they're already published and out there!)

Now, the new Darkover books, particularly The Alton Gift, are right in line with the series, well written, well thought out, and interesting. TAKE NOTE!!! I'll buy more new Marion Zimmer Bradley books by Deborah J. Ross before I'll buy another wannabe Norton!

The old Norton classics:
Beast Master
Lord of Thunder

VS the continuation of the stories:
Beast Master's Ark
Beast Master's Circus
Beast Master's Quest (the WORST one of the group!)

And then compare them to the Darkover books:
Exile's Song
The Shadow Matrix
Traitor's Sun
The Alton Gift (with Deborah J. Ross)

ARGGGHHHHHHH!!!

Being a HUGE sci-fi fan for a LONNNGGGGGG time, this is just downright maddening! How on EARTH could the editors have allowed this garbage to be published? Beast Master is one of my favorites and now, and now I'm just so frustrated I want to SCREAM!

In fact, I think I will.

ARRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

33 months ago: Nice! Thank you Harshaw! Although I'm not a big fan of Card, I like David Brin a lot. Dune is a classic!

I also like C. J. Cherryh's Chanur series, S. Andrew Swann's Moreau books, and Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson. And all the Pern books. All the Darkover novels. And have been working my way back through my Heinlein collection.

In fact, I'm working on a couple of book projects myself, but nothing is ready for any kind of review or input from my editorial staff (ok, she's my sister, equally a fan of sci-fi and fantasy).
33 months ago: Yeah, card seems like he is really just trying to cash in these days. The Ender Series was awesome, his even older stuff like the Seventh Son Series, the Earthborn series, and the Worthing Saga were great as well. So were his older stand alone works. While his follow-up to the Ender series was entertaining i started getting a bit predicable. Everything since has seemed like it was mass produced just to meet a deadline.

I hate predictible books, they're all the same. Like romance novels...
