According to BBC News
"Pope Benedict XVI has defended celibacy among priests, saying it was a sign of "full devotion" to the Catholic Church."
What is wrong with celibacy? I personally think it is a wonderful gift, that allows a person to be fully devoted to their work, or in the case of the Pope, devoted to God and the people. He is like the good shepherd. Tending to the flock.
I understand that there have been bad people in the church, very bad priests. This is not acceptable, but it does not make the good ones bad. It does not mean every priest is a pedophile.
There are always bad people around. They exist in all walks of life. Not just in the Catholic church. If a pedophile exists in a neighborhood, is the whole neighborhood evil? No, of course not.
Men should have a choice. There are of course other places to serve in the church, where you can be married. Yet I would hope that if Priests were allowed to choose, that many would choose celibacy.
I am thankful for the honest and good celibate priests of this world. Thankful for the love they share with us,their devotion to God, the truth, the leadership, the direction.
