What the Hell Are Real Estate Fees For?

I live in Canada. I recently listed my home for sale. I have to ask this questions. What the heck are Real Estate Fees For?

Here fees are 6% and sometimes a little less. Just exactly what do they do to earn their commission. I mean you figure on a 300,000.00 home they earn 15 to 18 thousand dollars. It is insane.

They place a picture in the paper for $50.00. They put your home on MLS, they fax out to other offices your feature sheets, place a sign on your lawn ( to advertise their name) and they wait. All in all they spend very little in comparison to what they take in.

I am sorry, I do not see why they are allowed to charge so much money for what they provide.

23 months ago: Huh? A service unless you want to stand on a corner for a year with a sign pointing to your home "For Sale". Have you ever had to work to sell a single home? You think they just add them to a data base and the buyers come rolling in with all of the cash? Really? Have you ever had a real job that required you to make a budget for more than 2 weeks?

Yes I have sold homes before. In fact I had my real estate lic. in Canada back in !994. I retired at the age of 44 not needing to work anymore. How about you? What do you know about selling Real Estate? Do you think they go knocking on doors looking for a buyer for you?

Labor Unions are great for overpaying people what they otherwise would not earn. Do you work for one?

And most of them only sell one home a month.

The live on that sale until the next.

If they are not brokers they have to share the commission with others. And most of the time get under 2 to 3 percent.

Some get one percent.

Life is not easy for them. The good ones make a lot.
