What happened to Rant Rave?

What happened to this blog, it used to be a very interesting place to waste non-valuable time!?

There were a lot a people posting and wasting their time arguing with the socialists that will live and die here.

I had lots of fun fighting with the commies, and learned a valuable lesson.

That the mind of commie/socialists is foreign to the majority of people. They make up about 2% of this country. But as it happens have taken over the country and gotten rid of God in all areas of the government.

Now I see that Google is gone and that it seems not to be picking up any articles at all.

Look up the best articles of rants and raves posted and you will see that they are VERY OLD. Months old.

There used to be new best rants and raves every few days. Now we have to look back 4 to 7 months to see a really good rant or rave. What has happened and who ran the public away?

This used to be a busy place where you could not be slow or you would miss the latest best rant and rave.

Someone has messed up and caused this place to be near its grave.

That means membership is down and GOOGLE has abandoned this blog.

Well when the moderators are all socialists and favor the other socialists and delete the articles of regular Americans for the slightest of reasons.

Then I can see why it is dying.

Am I right or wrong? Is there another reason for it being down?

Am I completely wrong here? When did it start dying?

I left to handle and to join and help other causes, and every few weeks just took a look, but lately I see death coming to a place I used to love.

Is it becoming a socialist rag?

Please give me your opinion.

I will be back tomorrow for your opinions.

5 months ago: While I consider Mr. Layton is a RINO, there is no way OutTheBox, a Moderator, is a socialist, communist, etc.

I consider Outta the most intellectually honest conservative there is. I'd vote for whatever.

This site sort of parallels our country....and there is still hope for our country. If we Americans straighten things out and boot out Jimmy Carter 2, conservatism will take charge and run things for the next decade.

The rest of the world who are with us will have leave the rest of the socialists, tyrannts, etc., in our dust.

5 months ago: Right wing extremism is killing this site. The original owners of rantrave were a politically diverse bunch. The original members also were politically diverse. The subjects discussed were also diverse, not just politics and right wing religion. Today all the diversity has left as the right wing extremist drove them away. Only a very few diehards are left and if you notice even they are losing steam. Pretty soon the extreme right will have this place all to them selves with no one left to argue with.
5 months ago: The problem is not right or left wing extremism. It is not religious or secular either.

The problem is the conviction level and the passion regarding what one believes or wants to share.

How important is what you have to say? Can you handle the potential criticism, debate, disagreement or even outright attacks, which may come your way when you put it out? There's the rub.

I consider myself to be slightly right of center and I am not going to pretend to be something that I am not. It's not important that everyone like me or agree with where I am coming from. Others can play those games if they like.

I would LOVE to see more political, religious, ethnic, and other diversity show cased here. It would make the stew that much more interesting. I am always advocating others to contribute when this particular topic comes up.

One problem however is that some folks cannot handle disagreement. When taken to task they fold and don't write any more. Some don't like being challenged on their views, so rather than engage they stay on the sidelines. I wish that were not the case, but it is.

When an individual lacks the will, conviction, or passion to contribute, there is not much I personally can do about it. All I can say is, if it's worth saying put it out there.

I've put plenty pearls out there that have been well received or respectfully debated and disagreed with or trampled underfoot by those who have no respect or appreciation for my particular view point. C'est la vie.

I'm the type of person who is loving but brutally honest and won't hesitate to bring up subjects that will challenge and maybe outright offend. I always feel that if something is worth saying, it should be said. After that I let the chips fall where ever they fall.

Those whose egos are not easily bruised and feel that have something positive to contribute, should continue to do that. Again, I encourage anyone out there with passion and conviction to please do the same. That will make this site that much more engaging, inform
5 months ago: You couldn't be more out of touch with RantRave Huey. Look at the numbers that reflect readership and then look at the comment section. People read the essays posted on RantRave because they want something different but those that comment are the same handful all the time. Other readers are afraid to post because every comment from somebody claiming to be conservative ends up political or religious in nature. Some people that read don't want to get into a warfare of words. They want to express not just dictums but opinions, ponderings, musings and curiosities. I know this because they used to post comments before the right wing extremists came along.

I see where things were two years ago and where they are now. Diversity has suffered because some have chosen to bow out and have taken their particular niche with. I'm sure "no cash" for posting is a major factor as well.

There is nothing stopping others from commenting if that is what they choose to do. If they choose not to that's unfortunate. However, that is their prerogative but it is not to the fault or blame of others. If someone gets offended and leaves, that is their choice. I've had plenty of opportunities for that. Guess what? I'm still here.

Not everything is of religious or political nature, yet many make it that way. Some just boil it down their based on the poster not the post.

At times, I will do an entire post and never mention religion or politics yet it gets pigeon holed that way. That can be frustrating at times, but it also goes with the territory it seems. I therefore accept that and move on.

That's out of my hands. A lot of the time I will just sit back and see what develops unless it's something I started to begin with. Everyone is free to comment. Nothing is stopping them other than themselves.

Then they need to go for it.

To say "right wing extremists" have run Ranters and Ravers off the site is tantamount to calling some folks weak in conviction or even cowardly and oversensitive. In that case, you and I concur to a degree.

I'm not a right wing extremist and here I am.

No one runs me off regardless of their political, religious, sexual, cultural, ethnic, or even sports affiliations. I like to hob knob, share, and joust with everyone.

Unfortunately not everyone it seems is of a mind to do that. However that is subject to change if those who read will dang the torpedoes, full speed ahead and just put their own stuff out there.

We need producers and not just consumers. That will bring us back to where things can be and need to be in the long run.
5 months ago: Perhaps if you have thick skin then it is easy to take that position. But you can't expect everyone to feel or respond as you. When in Rome do as the Romans but where are we if we are acting like savages? Producers produce in a healthy supportive environment. Some people enjoy camaraderie not just internet brawling and the lack of that perhaps is the biggest problem as I see it. As for the readers, they are perceptive Huey. They can see when a comment board is a trap for arguing and if they are not verbal golden gloves they will keep quiet. Think about it!

R&R was ready to be a primetime player when Google accepted it as an official news source. Unfortunately R&R became plagued by religious zealots, political nut jobs and as you said mean spirited tyrants that were more preoccupied with berating rantravers than making contributions. The fun loving educational curiosity that prevailed the site left along with the Google sponsorship. With no diversity there is no sponsorship and the site owners could not bring in the capital needed to make it grand. So what we have left is a shell of what it could have been.

Nobody does any research...nobody knows what a fact is. I have been pounding my head into a wall for a long time now...I'm pretty much bored of it...the political debates are more mature on the xbox360 forums.

Since I have been on here, I found people who have strong opinions, or different outlook, are knocked and ridiculed constantly. It is not about disagreeing, it is more about mocking individuals. Who wants to put up with that? Some people also feel that since this group talks to each other that they may be intruding into a conversation by jumping in. They may not feel welcomed. Nothing keeps people from speaking out, so this is unusual. Woman don't have a chance here because they are treated deplorably by certain people, and it is a strategy that they persist on doing. I really feel they are woman haters. I like to comment because I really like some of the people and like what they say whether we agree or not. From my perspective here, I tried writing a Rant/Rave and immediately I get certain people that mock me over and over again. That isn't right because it is everything that I have experienced, and maybe they haven't, there is no room for me here. The ones that answer with insulting one liners are actually boring to me, but other readers pick up on this. The others that speak as if they know what they are saying and copy from articles, speak in riddles. They don't understand what they are writing, so they don't get a clear point across. They try to sound like they are speaking over your head because it is an ego thing, but in reality, they aren't saying anything worth a darn. Who wants to spend an hour to two trying to figure out what they are saying. We are taught to speak and write so that others understand what we are saying. They are off the deep end of this equation. People like yourself, Huey, Truth, Al and Box give information but also add in their opinions. That is interesting, again, whether we differ or not it doesn't matter. The deliberate insults drive people away. They can't be bothered.

I do not think it was the people that killed it, because it was them that made a visit worthwhile.

No matter the kind of people, left or right, they wanted to stop by every night and join the arguments and fights. Life here was INTERESTING AND FUN.

I think the job of a moderator is to write/talk less and to help keep people civil. Once they take sides, the advantage is unbalanced to that other side.

So, keep your mouths shut and let people POST WHATEVER THEY WANT -- that is lawful. As long as it is lawful, shut the f---k up, and let us do our thing. Quit your present actions of telling us how to post, what to post or how to write. You are killing this post!!!!

To continue this present method is to drive all the good guys from both sides away.

We the people did not do our best to kill this website, YOU MODERATORS DID.

Let us do our thing and watch what happens!!!!

5 months ago: Your naivety is shocking. Specific users of this forum viciously attacked any member who was not in agreement with their own views. The people who would post and comment regularly fled this site because of it. Those people were in violation of the ToS and were never once punished for their actions. Their accounts remained active and not a single mod or admin did a damn thing about it. They watched as a very select few ripped this site to shreds. Now they praise them for there efforts to fix it (seriously...15 twitter followers that come and read an article and post nothing are not helping the site). It is shameful that the mods are allowed to even keep their jobs...but then again...the site Administrator hasn't been active in months either...
5 months ago: This site is not a big operation. It currently has only one owner and no employees. The current owner was gifted the site by its previous owners after being laid off as its one and only employee because the site was making no money. The owner has to make a living elsewhere and so cannot devote full time attention to the site. The moderators are unpaid volunteers. The way anyone makes any money is through their AdSense accounts. To me this means that self-policing was an unspoken rule around here. Once we violated that trust then all bets were off.


I don't expect personal accountability by the responsible parties because they are extremists. Just look at the conservative US congress that has decided to obey a pledge to a domestic economic anti-American terrorist over their pledge to the American people. This kind of attitude is a cancer that sucks the life out of all it affects. It is greedy and selfish.

If you think the issues can be fixed, then be a part of the solution instead of complaining incessantly.

I don't care if the moderators are unpaid volunteers, they made a choice to volunteer for a position and then none of them upheld the ToS of RantRave (my account probably should have been blocked as well as a few other specific accounts). If they didn't want to do the job then they shouldn't have offered to do it. As for the owner of the site...if you don't have time for it give it away or shut it down...but don't turn a blind eye on the vileness that destroyed your property (I doubt you would ignore someone destroying your home).

That said, I have made a very valid suggestion on how to fix the problem; it will never happen though because the moderators do not care. I have not heard any other suggestions that would help. The real issue is that the reputation is so bad now because of a select few individuals that nobody wants to come back here and anybody new is crushed the minute they join and then immediately leave. My complaints are founded in a direct correlation between the cyber "bullying" by a few members and the dramatic fall off of posts/comments and my suggestion would help (or would have helped a long time ago when there were still a lot of active members).

Because I love my country, I have to be attacked. This is crazy. I think it can be fixed, if people don't stand for it, or totally ignor them so they see no one takes them seriously, they will stop. You have to give them a taste of their own medicine. They are true cyber trolls that sit on a site to cause conflict. That is their purpose to drive people off.

You out think them. You use constructive, rational and powerful arguments to either shut the person up, get agreement, or simply wear them out.

Some comments are not worthy of replying to. In that case you can ignore them or give one word or a one liner that either embarrasses them or stymies them. Just don't lay down with dogs.

I have had to deal with ALL TYPES here and rather than being frustrated, it's been great. I have actually grown as an individual while being here. It's made me look at things from many different perspectives on a consistent basis. I find that to be quite healthy.

The site has at times been overrun with religious and political tripe. Some of it inoffensive garbage and other straight up prejudiced, bigoted, mean spirited, irrationality disguised as science or contemporary hedonistic philosophy, sociology and psychology.

Ultimately it's no skin off my apple. I'm start enough and secure enough to pick and choose my battles and not let someone else's obsession, non-sense, or irrationality perturb me. Life goes on.

I know some here think I'm a nut or delusional in some of my views, but so what? It's not my job to change anyone's behavior here. I'm just making the best use of the tools that are available to put out what I feel is relevant and worth sharing. And that is what I will continue to do and not complain while doing it.

There are some good people here on this site. Even when we disagree I never want to make it too personal. But sometimes when a negative attack comes to a point of view that I am very passionate about I will strike back in kind. I feel that is fair.

However, the naysayers don't define me. I know who I am. No one on this site can shake my confidence or discourage me from doing what I enjoy doing here. This is still a great site in my opinion and I believe things can and will get better if those who have the ability to make it so, make it so. And that includes all of us.

1. The Cypress Gang
2. Red State Guy
3. Ronbot (to a lesser degree in that I don't think anybody actually takes you seriously with your ridiculous ravings about "commies")

Literally every post on this site has comments by the first 2 people on the list that are verbally abusive of various members of this site. They lash out at anyone who is not a right wing nutcase like they are. They refuse to even attempt to research a topic and make a factual argument but rather depend on vicious personal attacks or truly idiotic attacks ("you're blind"/"your a libtard"/"You socialist/statist/liberal idiots"). Worse yet...RSG insults people using words he does not even know the meaning of (to this day he still has no idea that there is a difference between Liberal and liberal). They chose to be ignorant on purpose on all occasions. They have never added anything (TCG...your 19 twitter followers do nothing and therefore do not count). To be fair, RonBot, you have become at least some what more tolerable in your return to RantRave, insofar as that you have not started the old "your just a worthless pinko commie" crap yet.

The verbal assault of members is prohibited by the ToS. The moderators chose to ignore these violations that literally happened hundreds upon hundreds of times. People got sick of being berated by right wing extremists constantly and the number of active users has dwindled to the 10 or less people who now use this site. Certainly there is a similar claim against me as I was often dragged into the same behavior. I did so because the moderators refused to do anything (out of laziness or apathy) I lashed out at them in the same manner that they attacked the rest of the community. Does that make me less of an offender? Probably not...

1: I don't care how many people you get to READ the posts, the fact remains that you (nor anyone else) has done anything to increase the number of people actively POSTING on the site.

2: I cannot control who follows me on Twitter (at least not to my knowledge). I use twitter to follow people that post things I need to know about, why don't you take a look at my "Following" list, they are the only reason I use twitter.

3: I really don't care who is following you or reading what you post, as the same handful of people are the only ones posting.

4: It's Twitter, it is less important than Facebook...and Facebook (on a scale of 1 to 10) is somewhere around -1981693056 in terms of importance to life.

The Ron Bot Hunter is a former scientologist overcoming their brainwashing so I've always cut him some slack.

But Perfect Horizon is right if someone is berating someone else it should have been stopped permanently. It doesn't matter who it is. However, I don't think it is up to us the members to decide if things are hopeless. It is up to the owner to decide what eventually happens with this site.

~~The fact that he chose to break free from the brainwashing of Scientology but then became voluntarily brainwashed by Christianity is the reason I have not and never will "cut him some slack". Seeing that this did not just happen to me I will then have to agree with you. I've believed for a long time now that the essence of the problem is religion based politics. I've come to the conclusion that religion should enlighten its believer to be a better private person not become a manual for public policy and that if this is not the case that, that religion is not just worthless but dangerous.

However it seems that others might not agree with me. They use their religion as a substitute for rational thought. They can't or will not part with an idea that is based on their religion even if it flies in the face of every visible fact and common sense. Then they use this folly as the foundation for a political movement.

The sad part of the whole affair is that they are not even in the majority. There are plenty of people, Christians and otherwise that do not subscribe to their off kilter ideologies. But because they yell the loudest thus drowning out the voices of reason on the left, center and even moderate right of center nobody can here the seemingly silent majority that is trying to be heard through the proper channels.

Perhaps this is why the occupy movement became so popular. The majority of people are fed up with a small minority telling them what to do!

That's the problem we get tired of listening to some of the fights that are not resolved or met half way. People should have more respect for others. By at least having respect, more people would write.
Probably a big part of this is that many left because of the money that they aren't receiving any longer. Put that back, and this site would probably be flooded with new people.

First, as we all know, Google news dropped us back around the first of the year. Speculations abound as to why, some blaming it on

a) the recipe lady (who incidentally brought a lot of viewers to the site),
b) the 99ers who were supposedly gaming Adclicks by networking each others' articles,
c) all the spam "free internet tv" articles that got 10s of thousands of views and got fast-tracked onto the Google News feed, (by, I suspect, the only former moderator that is no longer a moderator).
d) certain members (take your pick)

Looking here, http://www.google.com/support/webmasters...#3 I can say that RantRave was guilty by association of breaking nearly every guideline in week leading up to getting dropped. I personally think it was deliberately sabotage by a former contributor/moderator. Then, when the Adclicks teat dried up, the commercial writers abandoned the site.

Ronbot, do you want the moderators to enforce the TOS or not? The only articles of yours I have deleted are cut and paste hack jobs, that you just copied off the internet and posted here word for word. I don't think that putting "In my opinion, this story is spot on" followed by an entire c&p article qualifies it as an opinion piece. I guess that makes me a pinko commie, but so be it.

5 months ago: Well, the World Series is not coming up for a LONG time (about 11 months). I am a die hard Cubs fan...but I cannot watch baseball anymore, its too boring.

As for the Super Bowl: San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh. I predict San Fran wins by 7.

I am very excited about the NBA season starting finally. I think my Bulls have a real shot at a championship this year.

I am also excited about the Blackhawks and they have a shot to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals this year.

Instead of beating up the site for a lack of diversity, or a lack of creative writing, write something. This site is the sum total of all its contributors and commentators. Each and every one of us has the responsibility to write articles to bring in viewers. In the past, other members blamed the decline on the influx of Scientologists, and there were other blogs that claimed RantRave was paying Scientologists to write. We all know that is untrue.

So maybe we are on a low right now, but the quality of writing has not decreased, in my opinion, the actual quality has increased. The quantity may be falling off, and the diversity may be becoming a bit more focused on certain subjects. So everyone reading this wondering what has happened to the site, get off (well... actually... on) your duffs and WRITE something!

There are plenty of times I could say I am annoyed by some of the posts, comments and other thoughts that do not line up with what I KNOW to be truth. I could even say that reading what some someone writes, telling me I'm wrong or misinformed or ignorant, is quite unpleasant. But that wouldn't be true, actually I love the opportunity because I invariably wind up learning something. Researching a subject is funny that way. You always wind up either strengthening your position, or perhaps even finding out you weren't as right as you thought you were.

We here at RantRave have as wide a diversity in human nature as one can get from such a small group. We range all the way from glaring Communist to total Libertarian. From law-and order to anarchy. From religious zealot to total atheist.

None of the other milquetoast, preaching-to-the-choir websites can match us in that regard. I've personally been banned from Mediamatters and Huffpo, just for disagreeing, and you all know my style is not combative, just stating the facts as I see them. Nobody wanted to debate, they didn't even want my side to be on their website.

I feel like we are all adults, and we don't really need a playground monitor. I also don't believe we need bullying awareness counselors to make sure nobody's feeling get hurt. Sure, if someone says he's gonna track you down and kick your butt, flag away. If someone stalks your every post telling you what a dumb bunny you are, flag that too. But don't flag comments just because someone write something that you don't agree with, or tells you that you are wrong. Draw them out, make them defend their position, and if that fails, expose them for the simpletons that you think they are.
