Vitiligo is a fairly unusual skin pigmentation disease. Obviously, the disease is making headlines because Michael Jackson suffered from its effects before his death. You can see a picture of Michael Jackson’s vitiligo scars to the left – his “pancake” chest makeup has run, and you can see pale skin.

Michael Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus in 1986. The diseases are sort of like cancer – they destroy healthy cells in your body. Jackson kept the diseases a secret until a 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he rolled up his sleeve to show his vitiligo scars.

There is no cure for either vitiligo or lupus. Treatments include skin cremes, makeup, and ultraviolet therapy. In extreme cases, vitiligo scars may be covered by tattoos.

There. Now you can’t say you didn’t learn anything today.

31 months ago: I'll wait for the official report. That 'pancake' makeup run might be a run from hair gel. You have a documented report to add?
31 months ago: Maybe people that are not formally educated on medical conditions such as vitiligo should refrain from asking for forms of documentation about something they know nothing about.

31 months ago: I knew a professor who had vitiligo. A black woman, her skin was spotted with pink areas. Eventually, she used a pancake-type make-up to even out her natural skin tones. I somehow doubt that Michael Jackson REALLY suffered from vitiligo, since he decided to become white, rather than fill in the areas of pinkish skin.

He decided to become white, that's interesting because he seemed to be under the impression that he was black. But of course, you know better.
