What Is It With Cheap Men?

Why is it that so many people still think that they can suck up a waitress' time, complain about everything from the water spot on the fork to the price of the food, change their order when it's probably already half done in the kitchen, and then tip that poor woman THREE LOUSEY DOLLARS for all her hard work.

I am so embarrassed every time I go out with my ex or his brother. YES, I ask for a separate check and I pay for my own food.

Why?

Well, for one thing, they're both so dang cheap that if they were paying for me or my daughter, they'd order off the kids' menu if they thought they could get away with it. AND tell me what I should be eating.

Like I need the food police????

And then, and then, after sending food back, after complaining the whole time, after being about as demanding as a customer can be AND she came back with a smile and a good attitude, tipping $3 for about $40 in food?

You have GOT to be kidding me!!

Yes, I tip WAY better than that, usually about 25% even if the waitress is really busy. People who work hard deserve better than the kind of customers my ex and his brothers are!

And no, I rarely go out to eat with them, only for my daughter's sake.

She thinks they're cheap too.

33 months ago: lol...yeah people like that annoy me too. There is a couple my wife an I go out with regularly who can be the same way. They of course know that if they eat out with me the tip is 20%. If the service really did stink then it is 15%.
33 months ago: Waitresses work hard and live on their tips. If you can't tip don't go out. They also pay taxes on those tips so think about adding a bit more to make up for it.

33 months ago: Totally agree with you two. And yes, they pay the taxes whether or not they get tips! It's a percentage and the IRS wants it, whether the waitress got it or not. (I shouldn't be so hard on guys though, I was thinking and I know a couple of women who don't tip at all.)
33 months ago: I generally consider if the waitress/waiter is genuinely trying to do a good job and base the tip on that. I dislike the ones who are constantly pestering you when you know they are shooting for a big tip, like "can I get another tip from you...I mean can I get another drink for you". O.K my glass has barely a dent in it and I was enjoying a conversation with my wife until you interrupted, no I do not need another drink. That is not what I say but what I want to say sometimes. A waitress or waiter who is genuinely trying to make our eating experience a good one will be attentive to this type of stuff and the tip factor is secondary to doing a good job. I will always tip generously to a waitress or waiter who is concerned about doing a good job first.

I tip 20 to 25% most everytime too; however, my wife, a woman, get's so mad when I tip more than 15%, she insists on paying the bills now. She will not let me pay anymore because I, a man, tip too much. But that's over here in Tennessee.

33 months ago: Ohmygosh, kid just reported that for four people at Marie Calender's, he tipped $4. I'm so, so glad I wasn't there. (And he made them all order the cheapest thing on the menu.) I realize that a lot of people tip properly, but the ones that don't, ohmygosh....
33 months ago: I'll have to forget I read this. I have the opposite problem. When I take people out I usually ask them to order more and even go to the extent of over doing my own order to share. Most times we all go home with large doggie bags that last for days. My Bad. Maybe I should be more Alpha.

Yes, I pick up the tab.
33 months ago: I ALWAYS TIP WELL. I have GREAT respect for waitstaff. I admire people in positions of service. It is true that when you dine out you ARE paying for the experience as well as the meal.
