Most people will never know first hand just how low down and dirty the game of politics is in this country. And I pray you never do. However, I do need for the public to be aware of exactly what is happening with me. After 30 years of dedicated civil service I have been terminated the same day that I was scheduled for surgery for reconstructive ankle surgery by the City of New York Human Resources Administration. I have no prescription benefits and so far have no replacement income and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Meanwhile, I recently posted a rant on the need for an independent national citizens commission on state ethics to provide oversight regarding state and local government officials. State officials select the individual citizens who serve on already existing state ethics committees and rarely if ever do those committees ever investigate the state officials who chose them. Federal oversight is generally busy with the auto companies and the AIGs of the world and current whistleblower laws deal mostly with federal agencies and private corporations. Should a state or local government employee need protection from the state. those employees have little if any recourse. Those employees become the "enemy of the state" when the problem is that the "enemy is the state."
I have posted a link to the New York Daily News March 2009 article on the dysfunction in New York politics to the left and would venture to say that if its happening in New York, then corrupt politicians exist across state government across the entire nation. Should such a nation citizens oversight committee become a reality and it is found that corruption is not as prevalent as the media is reporting, then no harm, no foul and a good preventive mechanism would have been installed.
