We are living in history and do not appreciate the honor being bestowed upon us. We should be grateful for the honor. We can now state that we lived in hard times while talking to our grand children. More importantly our children have also been given this honor. They will be able to pass the torch for even more generations. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy.
Truth is that the governments complacency and negligence is the problem. Not just here in the U.S. but worldwide. Politicians need a wakeup call. Government is not the fix. Government is the problem.
Finally a realistic article by The Associated Press. "Meltdown 101: Unemployment by the numbers". It is official. Unemployment is truthfully stated in the article as 17 percent.

It is not possible for government to create enough public sector jobs to cover the loss in the private sector. Private sector jobs creation is the only fix. This will not occur until government owns it's responsibility and stops blaming the private sector for the ills which it has not only created but has continued to endorse.
The average duration of unemployment is now 26.2 weeks, longer than the 26 weeks of state benefits normally provided to workers who lose their jobs. It’s the first time that has occurred since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began keeping records in 1948.
Congress has extended unemployment benefits twice -- first in July 2008 and then as part of the stimulus bill signed in February. Currently, the unemployed are eligible for a total of 46 weeks of benefits, and those in states where the unemployment rate is more than 6 percent are eligible for 59 weeks.
That is correct 59 weeks. 1 year, 1 month and 3 weeks.
