Generation Zero, a documentary film about the current economic crisis, has been getting some major buzz lately. Billed as "the inconceivable truth," Generation Zero promotes the view that the recent financial meltdown is part of a historical cycle of boom and bust.

In a nutshell, Generation Zero suggests that the "Greatest Generation" wrongly sheltered their children from economic hardship, which promoted self-indulgence. This created an "era of trading campaign contributions for government 'cover' in the form of guaranteed bailouts of Wall Street's speculative investments," and that helped cause the current economic crisis.

Yes, it sounds confusing to me, too. So I dug a little deeper, and found that Generation Zero was produced by Citizens United Productions, a conservative group that has ties to the Tea Party movement. You can decide if that adds or subtracts legitimacy to Generation Zero, but the movie was a big hit at the Tea Party convention earlier this month. The whole thing has that "Wake up Sheeple!!!" feel to it.

Check out the Generation Zero trailer on the left. It doesn't reveal much about the film, but I'm inclined to disagree with its message. Blaming hippies for the economic collapse is hardly logical. But that's just my opinion. Regardless, I'll be looking for a copy of the Generation Zero movie this weekend.

It sounds like traditional rightwing Christian conservative scare tactics to me. The sequence of events might follow a logical cause and effect scenerio but it doesn't follow a repetetive patern.

is implying. It is simply stating that is when people became culturally aware and began to question things and paved the way for many people to do so. You are a disgrace to our state. Gregoire sucks and so did this article. Can't speak for the rest, or on what kind of person you are, but in the future be more open minded in a review (impression piece). There are some people who take that at face value, and choose to not question or investigate themselves. It's pretty ironic, when you start asking people issue by issue, what they believe and they are surprised to see that they aren't so aligned with the party they thought. Financial crisis and freedoms are a bipartisan issue and the seperatism this post adds to is sad, at best.

@siempre solo (always alone), yeah I speak Spanish too. Maybe you're alone, cuz you're running your mouth. Yeah, the film was shown at the tea party, big whoop. Not all conservatives are Christians and not all Christians are conservatives. The very pigeon-holing you are doing, is what I guarantee you are against when it comes to racial profiling and religion. And really, what is the difference, when you are pre judging people? None. History does repeat itself. Why do you think it is crammed down our throats in school. Check out the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, for one. Yeah, they didn't have Atom Bombs or a guy named Hitler and there weren't peace signs, but there were all the same factors in play (the point this movie is "trying" to make) ; times of prosperity, hardships, mental awakening and the reality we have been sheltered from, by putting our faith and freedoms in the hands of the goverment.

I'm not trying to hate here guys. I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal, but one thing I strongly believe in is accountability. Something this country greatly lacks. Look at warning labels. :P

It seems to me that you are a bit defensive and a bit abrasive which makes me wonder what part of Chris' rant offended you? The part where he gave a nonjudgmental review about a conservative film despite having liberal views himself or the part where he didn't jump on the bandwagon based upon a preview clip alone?

As for your judgment about me, You don't have to know Spanish, just type the words in any search engine with the word, "definition" attached and it will spit a definition out for you. So you should not pat yourself on the back for figuring the Spanish definition of my pen name if anything you should castigate yourself for being critical and judgmental for drawing conclusions including but not limited to, assuming that I feel alone or that I need to keep my opinions to myself. By the way do you honestly believe that anyone who you do not agree with should stay quiet?

As for your problem with, "THE GOVERNMENT", oooh big spooky capital letter words, right? I think you forget that anytime anybody makes a decision on your behalf that they actually are governing over you, be it a family member, your boss, Jesus or uncle Sam. The US Government has its flaws because it is a work in progress. Going back to 1776 is just not practical. Our founding fathers new that America would be in constant change so they gave us a living document that would reflect the times which it would exist in.

Don't be gullible and assume that limited government is good government. "Limited Government" together are empty words. They can mean anything to anyone just as the words , "Big Government can mean anything to anyone too. So you see it is propaganda, specifically , "scare tactics" propaganda which "born again" Christians ,which make up the bulk of the Conservative right, like to use over and over. Remember The doomsday prophesy of televangelists during the cold war about the former USSR? Or what about more recently with the middle east terrorism going global? Do you remember the "Left Behind" book series? These are all evidence of the point I expressed.

Keep in mind that I don't disagree with the chronology of the events. I disagree that it leads up to a cataclysmic cycle. Any point in history can be cataclysmic given the right circumstances but conservatives especially those that form the religious right have been saying the same thing to get elected and force religious laws in my perfectly happy secular government. So no, I will not be quiet. I said what I said and I will keep doing so especially here in the USA and especially @ Rant Rave.

BTW: Welcome to Rant Rave Warren. I hope you stick around and share with us your other pet peeves and things you celebrate. You'll find that you are among friends and foes but we are all pretty civil and outspoken here which makes this a fun place to vent at. If your looking for conservative supporting views send a holler out to RedStateGuy, The Cypress Gang, Rudi Stetner or Gregorie. If your looking for socially liberal view support send a holler out to Altruist, Markbyrn, or Perfect Horizon. Myself I post here all the time and it's a blast. Again welcome!

23 months ago: @siempre, I didn't have to use an online translator. I can understand Spanish pretty well, speaking it is another story. Let me start off by saying, that I am not offended by what Chris posted. Perhaps by being new this site and not realizing it is for venting and such, even though it's title is as such, gave me a stewed view of his post. I typically read tech blogs and blogs about anything that strike my interest. Some are factual, others are opinion pieces, such as this one. My point is, his judging the movie and coming to a general consenus about the root cause of the crisis, without yet seeing the film. You see, while you and I are obviously intellegent enough to know Google and read up on things, many ignorant fools, stubble on works and take them for face value. It is no secret that our media and school systems favor the left. And with Dems constantly selling out our country to get minority votes, they cater to immigrants, who change the voting demographic, adding numbers to the blue party. What's popular isn't always right and what's right isn't always popular. I'm not saying Fox news is accurate, but rather that people should question things. We do not live in a black and white world. There are grey areas, where their shouldn't be. Yes, the constitution is a "living document", but when do you draw the line and focus on the people that have been here for generations, the families and rights of the people, who made
America this desirable destination for so many? This movie, though I have not seen it, but I am in film myself, seems to be not so much "scare tactics" as a different approach. Whether reasonable or not, is yet to be determined, by actually watching it. To write it off all together, and say it's the Christian right blah blah blah, is ignorant. I think it's pathetic the seperatism
this country has. The only real issues that seem to seperate parties and people's view of which they, themselves belong to are few and far between, namely; abortion, gay rights, social programs, taxes, immigration and guns. While some are big topics, others are less important and should be not decided by the goverment. Yes, we vote people in, but we also don't have a clue of what happens behind closed doors, and to say we do is foolish. I too feel that forcing religious views upon people, using goverment as the delivery method, is retarded. We focus too much on outside influence and adapting to people that come here, as opposed to them adapting to their host country. As for the movie, I Jane not jumped on said bandwagon. I do however see "some" validity in the trailer, which has spiked my interest to watch the film. Americans have learned to spend without money and rack up major debt. Something we could look at our government (when no longer having the dollar backed by gold) and say, "I learned by watching you dad". Increased taxing is not going to fix our economy.

23 months ago: We need to reinvent ourselves as a nation, as one and put party allegience to the side, as "Americans". The only way to increase the dollar's value is to pay down the deficit and export more that we do, which at the present seems to
be only jobs.

Yeah, I was a little harsh in coming in to this site, and for that, my apologies. If it had been labled as a subsidiary of Air America or something, I wouldn't have been so taken aback.

In closing, you and me, people of all
colors and beliefs are "Americans" and that is my ultimate point. I don't belief everything either party says. But I don't discredit it either, without investigation. I have found things on both sides of the spectrum that i have both agreed with and disagreed with. Opinions are wonderful, a true beauty and a testiment of our freedom. So I am not fired up about that, but rather the ignorance that comes with judging. It's ok to question things, and to borrow an Apple ad campaign "Think Different", just do so with some backing and actually viewing the peice you are making an opinion on. That's all my point was. But, when you're all heated, you forget the point and it becomes about other stuff, and the meaning gets lost. So again, lo siento amigo.

23 months ago: From my never to be completed novel:
At a light he pulled up next to a vehicle that announced there was a Baby on Board. Though these little signs were not as ubiquitous as once they were, Binder wondered why the most significant word was left out of the announcement: My. After all, wasn't that really the implication? "My Baby is on Board, (and you'd better notice) and…do what? Be careful? Don't carjack me? Don't run a red light? Don't hit me head on drunk out of your mind? As though, like a talisman, this would ward off traffic mishaps? Or would one expect other drivers to react thusly, "Look, there's a vehicle without a baby on board sign, let's crash into it instead"? He wondered if people had forgotten that both car wrecks and conception often share the same description; accidents.
Or were these little placards meant to be an explanation to other drivers?
"I am driving like a kyphotic 90 year old who cannot see over the steering wheel because… "Baby on Board"?
Binder took it simply as a way for people to proclaim their success at procreating, nothing more. Were there any lengths to which we would not go to call attention to ourselves, he wondered? More popular now are the bumper stickers that inform "My child is an honor student at blah blah blah". At least it was honest enough to include the "My". He did not understand the origins of this craving, although he saw it in himself. The most irritating component of its manifestation was the attempt to couch the attention grab in something prudent and sensible: "Let's all drive responsibly because my vehicle has a baby on board". This raucous parade of egocentrism was made more embarrassing as each reveler transparently sought to hide behind the mask of greater good and civic mindedness. Eventually he could see the smoking hulks of two minivans thus adorned lying upside down at an intersection, wheels still spinning skyward, while one mother explained to the responding trooper, "I had to hit her officer to get her attention, I didn't think she noticed I also had a baby on board!"
At this point his sympathies were far more in tune with those bumper stickers that said simply: "Please don't breed".

23 months ago: I was looking to buy a house and had figured my budget and knew what I could afford to spend a month on a house payment. Even though I was approved for an amount that I could never afford, (but could if I chose a subprime that my lender offered) I stuck to my guns and actually had to tell the realtor to stop showing me houses above my means, she continued with her efforts to shove houses down my throat that were to expensive. Hmmm wonder what was the underlying cause of that. Can anyone tell me? Gotta have the money so that I can get mine. We have stepped away from country and stepped into the me time, what can I buy next, what can I do to make myself feel better. It's not my fault they said I could afford it, now they won't bail me out and help me pay for my ATV's, RV, and boat. Some say that is the american dream, what it is is the unfortunate step into reality where money makes the world go round and our country is losing control of themselves and their beliefs. It takes,,,, what does it take? It takes believing in your country and holding those in charge accountable. I am not talking dems or repubs, I am talking us. Greed and getting what we can get is going to destroy this country and we will be speaking Chinese in the future.

23 months ago: @tmandoug1, Couldnt agree more with your post. As a fellow American, I appreciate your responsibility and decision making when considering a house purchase. Lately, I have been hearing so much on the news, about how lenders and big corporations are responsible and corporate greed is the devil. While, there is truth in that, it also neglects the personal responsibility of the "individual". Classic case, and probably overused is; the lady who sued McDonalds for hot coffee that burned her. Why was it in her lap
in the first place? Was she really too dumb to not know that coffe is hot? The root
of soany problems in America, is the lack of personal accountability. There are warning labels on the most obvious of devices. Disclaimers everywhere. The lack of personal accountabilty, goes hand-in-hand with the socialist agendas being lobbied for in congress. Which in turn, lends creedence to your statement about speaking Chinese. While we won't be speaking "Chinese", I think your point is more along the lines of pointing out our lack of fiscal responsibilty and dependence on outside econmies (which we largely shaped), to bail us out. The issue of America's financial system, is a bi-partisn one. One where increasing taxes and adding new social programs (healthcare etc), will only hurt the already near worthless dollar. Plenty of money is obtained through taxing, yet the government wants more, spends more and the deficit grows. They try and trick people into hating big business, saying tax the crap
out of them. Tax the wealthy and give to the poor. They use terms and processes, that make it seem like it is not stealing. Why should someone who is successful have to give to those who are not? Because those people chose to be accountable for their own life path. These very people who bring in most of the money for America, are being pressured to the point, that they set up shop in other countries with more favorable tax tables. Thus, killing the dollar more.
