Really! WE ARE DESPICABLE.

I'm watching a program on TV right now where a black family of modest means, who live in Wash D.C. is being interviewed. The kids have been attending a very good school, getting a good education and setting themselves up for a good future. They've been using the voucher program in Wash D.C.. The program that gives kids a good education for far less than D.C. spends on public education. Well Congress has voted to kill the program.

The reason, as we all know, is because of teacher's unions and the like. It has absolutely nothing to do with cost or effectiveness. Wash D.C. spends over $10,000 per student yearly on public education and it fails horribly. The voucher system costs $7,500 per student yearly and by all accounts succeeds VERY well. The liberals in Congress are perfectly willing to doom the poor children in D.C.'s schools to a life of poverty or at least low paying jobs as long as the NEA, AFT, UFT and the like, are happy. And liberals have the NERVE to call conservatives racists. That is laughable.

The liberals behind this in Congress are beyond despicable and conservatives bear responsibility because they are going to let them get away with it. So 10,15,20 years from now when some are complaining about the costs of welfare and prisons, lets have the decency to admit to ourselves that we had a chance to fix this problem but didn't have the guts to stand up and say, "Let's stop the bulls##t and REALLY educate these kids with the voucher system. Let's give them a shot at a good life."

After all, it's just as beneficial to society as it is to these kids in lousy public schools. But no, we're just too despicable.

I haven't even seen this on the news yet.

Welcome to the U.S.A., the land of the free money to rich C.E.O.'s and the home of the brave soldiers who are now homeless.

I just think the voucher system there offered an excellent opportunity to shine a light on an alternative to the miserable public education we have in this country. It is the most perfect alternative actually. The failed system is spending 25% more per child than the system that is having great success. My underlying point is I'm tired of seeing out cities becoming uninhabitable for law-abiding citizens. An educated man uses his mind, not a gun. I'm tired of seeing multi-generational families on welfare. We will never solve our crime and poverty issues until we stop kowtowing to certain special interests and decide we are going to actually give all our kids a good education. If that sounds 'bleeding-heart-liberal', consider the fact that it costs FAR less to educate a man than it does to keep him in prison. And an educated man is earning a living, paying taxes and making a contribution to society rather than being a leech on it.
If given my druthers, I'd like to see a voucher system used in every corner of America, not just for the kids of D.C..
