As we push toward a belated but inescapable vision of 1984 and Brave New World, the government will again convince us (or not, it will not matter) that for our own good and security the watchful eye in the sky, or CC on the light pole, or satellite...(did you see that pic of me picking my nose as I drove home from work with the top down?)
is a necessity.
Soon we will be going "Carousel", (please Google "Logan's Run") as we are already popping Soma, (and Xanax) and pledging allegiance to an image of a man mouthing empty platitudes about his regard for us and our well being.
The Bill of Rights has given way to the Bill Of Goods we are swallowing faster than a college freshman in a chugging contest.
Coming through a window near you...

From Breitbart.com:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Unmanned aircraft have proved their usefulness and reliability in the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. Now the pressure's on to allow them in the skies over the United States.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been asked to issue flying rights for a range of pilotless planes to carry out civilian and law-enforcement functions but has been hesitant to act. Officials are worried that they might plow into airliners, cargo planes and corporate jets that zoom around at high altitudes, or helicopters and hot air balloons that fly as low as a few hundred feet off the ground.

On top of that, these pilotless aircraft come in a variety of sizes. Some are as big as a small airliner, others the size of a backpack. The tiniest are small enough to fly through a house window.

I understand posting in this venue will probably find few who agree with the benefits of this and will most likely see the further erosion of privacy and ...well... the distance we are simply putting between ourselves and something I cannot describe as other than "real life".

Unfortunately, I am convinced that like the frog in the pot of water, those devoted to Jersey Shore, Real Housewives of blah blah, will simply see this as their opportunity to be on a real time, real live reality show...and care not one bit. To them, real life means being watched all the time...

I think I am looking up, not for the buzz of the drone...but for the redemption from the unspeakable horror we have managed to make of what we all have been entrusted with. I know, I know...how retro...

23 months ago: Very frightening the change of perception over the last few decades. When I was young government was something far away and little thought of. Now it is creeping into almost every aspect of our lives. I suppose the most frightening thing is as you sort of mentioned, people are excited about and even demanding that government get more involved. So many tyrannically governments which have failed miserably began with the "for the good of the people" slogan. Nice work Gregoire.
