A few weeks ago, there were mysterious bird deaths en masse in Louisiana. No one could pin them on anything conclusive. In Yankton South Dakota, hundreds of birds were found frozen in trees or dead on the ground. Concerned citizens were fearful that the bird deaths were part of a general epidemic, until Yankton police received a phone call from the USDA admitting that the birds had been poisoned. KTIV reported as follows.
"They say that they had poisoned the birds about ten miles south of Yankton and they were surprised they came to Yankton like they did and died in our park," says Yankton Animal Control Officer Lisa Brasel.
