The U S has assigned troops in the past to help with disaster relief, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and as soon as the relief effort was completed, the troops redeployed to other areas of service.

There have been rotating units with Homeland Security since 2002, but never before have there been dedicated units expressly tied to NorthCom.

The response force will be assigned on Oct. 1 to U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., and placed under the operational control of U.S. Army North, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

This week, Col. Lou Vogler, U.S. Army North's chief of future operations, and Marine Corps Lt. Col. James Shores, director of plans and policy for Joint Task Force Civil Support, participated in a round table interview with online journalists to discuss the force, including its unique mission and training.

"U.S. Army North is the Army component of U.S. Northern Command," said Vogler, "and we're charged with coordinating the federal military response in the land domain for domestic operations or disasters, to include CBRNE."

Vogler said that the response force is a scalable, dedicated force that is prepared to reinforce state and local responders when they request federal assistance. The force's alignment under U.S. NORTHCOM shortens the line of command to increase readiness and responsiveness.

I'm not going into all the black flag, fema camp stuff here. I urge you to look into it, and report what you can verify.

The October deployment of combat hardened veterans will be just in time for the November mid-term elections.

"Right now, the response force requirement will be an enduring mission. How the [Defense Department] chooses to source that and whether or not they continue to assign them to NorthCom, that could change in the future," said Army Col. Louis Vogler, chief of NorthCom future operations. "Now, the plan is to assign a force every year."

"They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control..."

22 months ago: "Congress passed the Insurrection Act in 1807 to severely restrict the president's ability to deploy the military within the United States. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 tightened these restrictions, imposing a two-year prison sentence on anyone who used the military within the U.S. without the express permission of Congress. But there is a loophole: Posse Comitatus is waived if the president invokes the Insurrection Act.

Section 1076 of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 changed the name of the key provision in the statute book from "Insurrection Act" to "Enforcement of the Laws to Restore Public Order Act." The Insurrection Act of 1807 stated that the president could deploy troops within the United States only "to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy." The new law expands the list to include "natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition" -- and such "condition" is not defined or limited. . . . "

When good paying jobs are few for the average man.

When food and the basic items of life are getting unaffordable, that is what made the politicians worry.

Their answer to our problems is to kill, imprison and deport us to foreign lands where we never will be seen again.

They have a list of which ones of us are marked for extermination. And which ones will get a life sentence.

You are a Federal subject with no constitutional rights. You are the enemy that they are preparing to kill.

There is NO evidence that we are preparing for a foreign invasion.

They are preparing FOR YOU!!!

I am sure the reasonable folks with the dolls eyes and the plastic heart of a bureaucrat will gladly jump on the "you're just being paranoid" bandwagon in a heartbeat.
I am thinking all these vampire and zombie movies are striking a chord in the public consciousness...as those mindless flesh eating robots or seductive soulless undead invade to convert you.

Free organisms are a threat to the collective, both in thought and action...
22 months ago: In 1876 the towns people of Northfield Minnesota realized their bank was being robbed by the James-Younger gang. They gathered their weapons and as the robbers tried to get away they shot three, wounded several others. A few weeks later most of what was left of the gang was captured.
Fast forward to Hurricane Katrina a few years ago. After being told to evacuate the area but not doing so thousands of stranded residents curse National Guard troops and the government for "taking so long to save them".
Have we really become so helpless that the government should have troops to keep us secure like sheep? Or is the threat anyone who actually opposes being treated like mindless cattle?
Great post OOTB, where is the line drawn for "your own good"? We should keep a watch on this.

22 months ago: In response to Jakarta, I wish you would not perpetrate some myths about Katrina. First, were you aware that the Airport, Amtrak, and Greyhound in NOLA all shut down 2 days before Katrina hit and a day prior to the evacuation? They shut down when we first heard Katrina was headed our way. In addition, all rental cars were gone. I know because I was a tourist whose only choice was to try and hitchhike out of town the second the evacuation order was given or to go to the Superdome. I chose the Superdome.

Secondly, are you aware that most disaster/emergency experts consider that the roughly 85% evacuation rate during Katrina as one of the highest rates ever during a pending disaster and certainly much higher than Houston's months later?

Third, we welcomed the assistance the way understaffed National Guard gave to us. They were there before Katrina arrived and the levees broke (an unnnatural disaster). I never heard a soul complain about the National Guard or Air Force or Coast Guard around all the people I encountered during my 6 days in New Orleans. I did hear National Guard members complaining though that so many of their colleagues were in Iraq and they thought our Government's priorities were screwed up. Yes, we complained about FEMA, Bush, the Governor, the Mayor & the New Orleans P.D., but the military was great as far as we were concerned.

I was always raised that the U.S. was the most caring, compassionate nation in the world and that there would be a safety net for people in emergency situations. Perhaps I was naive, but I certainly wonder if you or anyone in your family has ever taken advantage of any govt. services such as V.A. medical benefits, ambulance services, or Medicare because these are all things my tax dollars pay for so YOU can have a safety net during an emergency.

Finally, I wonder why I have never heard anyone rant about those folks in Providence, R.I. who chose to live where it flooded or Fargo, ND, or San Diegans who didn't evacuate earlier with the ensuing firestorms. And why didn't people say the Federal Government shouldn't have been responding immediately to the Northridge earthquake or the Oklahoma City Bombing or 9/11. Those three events combined were smaller in magnitude than Katrina yet the Fed. Government didn't take days to assist there.

22 months ago: Paul I offer condolences for your suffering at the hands of Katrina. However my point is that if we were more forward thinking and less inclined to wait or depend upon our government for so much there may not have been such a terrible situation in the first place.
Believe me that you may not have heard the utter dependance mode from your end but it was broadcast no less on national television. Should Americans realize that they are living in a hurricane prone area and take personal precautions to ensure they have emergency supplies, transportation etc. then the tragedy could have been less.
You my friend however seem to be playing the "victim" card. It is Amtrak's fault, Greyhound, big business in general I suspect. You see I am not concerned about how fast the government should get there or how many safety nets we do or don't have. I am not talking about expecting our government to be compassionate. I know Americans are compassionate. We are also scared to death to help each other. We have laws that protect criminals but punish citizens for helping someone in need. We have become a nation that expects the government to bail us out because that's what our tax dollars pay for. I have paid taxes all my adult life and I have safely traveled and lived throughout Asia, Northern Canada and Alaska. I also researched and prepared for my travels I did not count on my being a "U.S" citizen as back up in case of trouble.
Now I think it is great that we have safety nets and that when all else fails being an American has it's benefits. But we have slowly moved away from government help being the last resort to standing around until someone in charge tells us what to do or comes to get us. What I want to see is a more personally responsible America Paul. I don't want to take anything away from those truly in need. But I do want Americans to be less needy and more capable.

1. PASSED OCTOBER 17, 2006

2. VOIDED THE POSSE COMITATUS ACT

3. ALLOWS FOR MILITARIZED POLICE ROUNDUPS

4. ALLOWS FOR THE DETENTION OF PROTESTORS, ILLEGAL ALIENS AND UNDESIRABLES IN FEMA PRISONS

MILITARY COMMISSIONS ACT OF 2006

1. REMOVES THE RIGHT OF HABEOUS CORPUS

2. GIVES DICTATOR POWERS TO THE PRESIDENT

3. ENEMY COMBATANT STATUS CAN BE DECLARED BY AN UNFOUNDED ACCUSATION

4. REDEFINES TORTURE AND ALLOWS TORTURE UPON AMERICAN CITIZENS WHEN ACCUSED OF BEING AN ENEMY COMBATANT

5. TORTURE MAY BE USED TO THE POINT OF MAJOR ORGAN FAILURE OR DEATH WITH COMPLETE IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION

Each President in the past two decades has made Executive Orders, not to defend against a foreign invasion, but to kill and imprison the American People, when we complain and protest their frauds and treasons, and violations of our constitution rights and liberties.

They are not concerned about foreign invaders, because we already have 160,000 foreign troops brought in to kill all that oppose the corrupt government.

They are preparing for a civil war and you are the enemy.

22 months ago: The government said they would "PROTECT" the American border. So far, what has it gotten us......
1. Illegals from all over the world. Fences have been promised, but just part way finished, and in some cases even abandoned.
2. Deportation, that is only half hearted, and in many cases ignored.
3. Cities that have "safe haven" for illegals.
4. Polaticins that give a "wink and a nod" on illigals.
5. Criminals that have infiltrated the us borders with their gang wars.
6. Local sheriffs, Counties and now even states have issued laws that advise American people to arm themselves for self peotection.
7. When the National Guard is called out to "protect" our boarders, they are not allowed to load their wepons, just "detain" for the Border Patrol, which arrise another question.....What if the "detainee" decides to walk away?
