To Burn or not to Burn?

The Dove church with only 50 in it's congregation has come up with a brilliant idea to get free publicity.

Pastor Terry Jones intends to burn copies of the Qur'an at his church on 9/11. This is not the Christian way, and to put our troops in harms way is reckless and responsible.

I am not an admirer of the Qur'an, but burning their Holy book is not what Jesus would do.

Even if Muslims were not easily antagonized it is not the way to go about it.

A non-Christians that acted like one was Mahatma Gandhi, then there was Martin Luther King a Christian and Mandela. Neither of them would burn the Qur'an.

Quran burning could endanger our troops, Pertaeus warns.

It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday.

This is what out Lord and roll model says:

Psalm 37:8 Don't be angry or furious. Anger can lead to sin.

All sinners will disappear, but if you trust the LORD, the land will be yours.

Sinners will soon disappear, never to be found,

Cease from anger - That is, in reference to the fact that there are wicked people, and that they are permitted to carry out their plans. Do not allow your mind to be excited with envious, fretful, wrathful, or murmuring feelings against God because he bears patiently with them, and because they are allowed a temporary prosperity and triumph. Be calm, whatever may be the wickedness of the world. The supreme direction belongs to God, and he will dispose of it in the best way.

And forsake wrath - That is, as above, in regard to the existence of evil, and to the conduct of wicked men.

And do not pay back evil with evil.

17 months ago: And so you will know why I don't want any wrath taken out on our citizens in those countries, I presently have two nephews, a son-in-law and a (taking a stab at this one), nephew son-in-law either in country or soon to be there and that's just my direct family interests in the whole mess. I really don't want anyone else hurt either.

It is also another act of hate that will keep this war going.

If we are to undo the mistakes of the politicians, let us let it go, and try to make peace, with ourselves and with others.

If the Jews and Arabs can't make peace, that is their fault.

Why should we keep on dying for them?

We have bled enough blood and lost too many boys and girls.

JUST LET IT GO!!!

I tell it like it is, I pull no punches, tell no lies, and I am as I am

Good post.
17 months ago: Let's all fall back on the question of freedom of expression.

Now that you think they don't have that right could you be next on the blog hit parade?
17 months ago: They have the right to do it, but it's quite a stupid move.

No long term benefit there at all for any parties involved.

There should be a law in place that could stop someone because of national security or something.

17 months ago: There are laws, but there is also the constitution. Let's not attempt to violate one while upholding the other. Common sense should guide them; instead they let their emotions run the show.

17 months ago: A good Post Ed!

The real nutcases are empowered by the radical speech of the right, to do stupid counterproductive acts.

I notice that none of the Tea Party or Republican leadership are denouncing this fruit cake, and they are all still wanting to block the construction of the Civic center two blocks from ground zero.

An interesting Constitutional problem. The Moderate Muslims should be allowed to build on their own property, and free speech allows the pastor to burn the Koran.

Islamiphobia, intolerance, and bigotry is always harmful and should be discouraged.

The best way to change religious radicals is to have the religious leaders pressure them to be less confrontational. I am glad the united voices of most major religions are asking this crazy pastor to not hit the hornets nest.

The Imams should also condemn all killing in the name of Allah because that is condemned by the Koran. Oops they already have! http://www.muhajabah.com/otherscondemn.p...

Serious public religious discussion is all but impossible these days. It seems that to hold any serious religious belief is to offend those who don't hold that particular belief. And the more seriously you take your faith, the more offensive it is. How has American civil society come to this horrible place? (Keep reading - http://pilgrim-platform.org/2010/koran-d...

17 months ago: GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A Christian minister in Florida is canceling plans to burn Korans on Sept. 11, heeding an international outcry that drew criticism from President Obama and religious and political leaders across the Muslim world.

Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove Outreach Center also said that the leader of a Muslim group that wants to build a 13-story Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero has agreed to relocate the center. The agreement could not immediately be confirmed.

According to Reuters, "But sources close to New York Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said there was no agreement to move the site of the proposed Muslim cultural center."

17 months ago: UH...Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf now says that the mosque is a "National Security" issue? You know what. He is right. Building the mosque that close to a horrific event rained down upon the American Infidels by Shia Muslims would be a "National Security" risk. The question is on what "National Security"?

Or, whose?

http://onfaith.washingtonpost.com/onfait...

..."If I knew that this would happen, cause this kind of pain I wouldn't have done it."
Despite his regret, Rauf now says that the Islamic center must move forward, due to the potential for violent backlash if it is halted.
"Our national security now hinges on how we negotiate this, how we speak about it."...

17 months ago: I like PA Ross's idea to read the Koran instead of burning it. Religious intolerance stems from ignorance. It is not the school's or the school administrators who are to blame however. There should be religious studies classes in all high schools and universities, that gives introductions to all of the major religions in the world.

Since religious studies is considered an unnecessary frivolous option it is one of the first classes to be cut in times of tough budgets. It is also objected to by very religious parents who do not want their kids indoctrinated by any other belief systems than their own brand of propaganda.

I bet that if Trump buys the property owned by Imam Feisal's community for 25% more than it is worth, and the City helps them find a suitable site more than 5 blocks away at a discount, that they will move the site of the civic center.
17 months ago: Yeah, I bet they could get a bank to move across the street to make it easy to launder the money, and the city will of course offer tax abatements and free water and sewer and then strong arm the utilities for a locked discounted rates for 100+ years. I wonder how the unions will cave.

17 months ago: An introduction to religion would not be a bad high school course, but should be given for free in a college setting if mandatory, if optional, then a pay to attend would not be out of line.

The catch in HS would be keeping it free of one sided teaching, it should be a general course that teaches the how and why any religion came into fashion, not why the teacher believes in one particular brand.

Those very religious parents are afraid that their children will learn how to investigate and learn the truth about anything and everything and not just accept what they say as "gospel".

If they need to save money, the best place is coaches salaries and adminstration, cutting a religion course (or music or other fine art course) is small potatoes in comparasion.
