This is more of an inforamtion post than a rant.

Some of you may have been watching the news about what we are going through here in Manila.

The flood literally swept through and took everything from some of the poorest people on the planet. You tube has some vids that we taken from my area, which was hit bad.

In my short time since I moved here, I have developed a profound respect for the people here. They are not the whining spoiled brats, that I feel we Americans have become.

Many, many people have lost everything. I have mobilzed all the people I could to get stuff to people here, please consider donating to the red cross. I am taking donations of items from my friends because I want to make sure it gets to people directly. (I have know to many people in Non Profits and many times the aid does not get through to those who need it most. If you have friends in the Philippines consider sending items directly to them.

I cannot reach many of the workers I have employeed here. I fear for their safety. I cannot reach around 40%, I am holding my breath and praying they are okay. The concerns of politics seems so petty at the moment.

Even before this tragic flood, I feel my life has been changed forever since I started living here. I will share that later. I am greatful for my education in life here. Many of us American just have no clue.

I think I have become even more conservative...but also more compassionate.

Again please consider helping if you are able.

Do you have an address you wish to share?
Do you just need money?
32 months ago: I wonder that too. When I told many of my friends back home they had not heard anything about it. I was confused, is the US so self involved it doesn't pay any attention to anything but its own issues.

Over 100 people are dead here, over 500,000 driven from their homes....and noo concern from the "leader of the free world"

Maybe the suffering of people in the Philippines is not as important as handing out bail out checks to companies that messed up the US economy.

I urge people to get information, Google & You Tube have good info.

I think a good place to give aid would be Catholic Charities. I have my friends sending stuff to my personal and business addresses here, but I don't want to broadcast those out to the internet.
This is a very Catholic country so they will probably be set up to help. The red cross is taking donations here for relief items.
I have friends who lean to the left as well as to the right. Interestingly... those on the left spent most of my limited internet time discussing politics... those on the right asked where to send boxes.
32 months ago: Not one liberal has offered more than their opinion, but even conservatives of meager means have offered to send help. Well I have really learned something about people during this.

A couple of my friends in the medical field even offered to get on a plane if I thought they were needed. All the conservatives have sent their boxes and tracking numbers to me, not one liberal has even offered to ask what was needed.

If you want to send goods, send light clothing and blankets. It doesn't matter when it gets here people are going to need stuff for a long time. If people want to donate through me I will set an email and get the addresses to the red cross and other charities to anyone who needs them as well as information on cost of shipping etc.

Just let me know. I am not a relief organization but I will get anyone who wants to help the info you need.

Thank you
32 months ago: I have just recieved news that one of our staff members was taken by the storm.

He was just a kid, just graduated from college. I cannot believe it. He had everything to live for, now he is gone. I have still not recieved information from around 20-30% of the staff. Our area was one of the hardest hit, I thought we were all okay. But I still don't know if we have lost anyone else.

Please take a moment and be thankful you are alive and safe.

This news is all over the BBC and Aljazeera. Nothing from the richest most spoiled country on the planet. Well I think I have never been so ashamed to be a US citizen.

Please let me know if it does not auto respond.

32 months ago: I have several tents I could donate if you can let me know where to send them. What else would be helpful?
PS CNN has good coverage.
Thank you for your help.
32 months ago: I thinnk sending them here through Catholic Charities would probably be worth trying. This is a very Catholic country. If you can find someone with relatives here, you can send the items to them. I would take more donations directly but I am a bit overwhelmed with clean up and trying to find all the staff. We have lost one worker that was confirmed but we still have people missing.

Also I set up an email with some info.

Send light blankets, sheets. It is very, very hot & humid here so lighter clothing would be more useful also more items can be shipped. Tents would probably be welcomed, as many people who lived in the shanty towns lost their dwellings.

Canned foods such as spam and corned beef would be helpful. Meat is expensive so canned meat products would be welcome. Other household goods such as dishes, pots and pans. Not glass - it breaks.

here is a link to the red cross. It shoulod have addresses.

32 months ago: Also thanks for the amazing responses I have recieved. The people here are very greatful.

The Filipinos love Americans and have been so good to me personally. I am glad Americans are showing their love for the Filipinos.
