Wow you guys... add "free speech" to the War on Terror! I can almost smell the bodies burning from up here across the Canada/USA border... if the wind is blowing north that is. Seriously? When people have had enough and they want peaceful change they are labeled as terrorists? What option is left? Next thing you know is that the US will have to deploy troops against true freedom fighters... is this the start of another civil war? Slow the heck down... or back the truck up... there is nothing civil about civil war! Sarah Palin was attacked for using cross hairs on a map...
these idiots are painting bombs on Tea Party supporters, Seriously?

The Fallacy of Democracy...
"The small guy voted them in... but the big guy is paying their salary; which way do you think they are going to act? All we can do differently in democracy, is vote in our dictators."

The "left" is just salivating while licking it's chops... like a coyote over a carcass, and all this for demanding a little accountability? IF there are any "suicide bombers" it is those in power... that would rather the entire nation fall, than show some responsibility and honor! It takes wise leaders to do what's RIGHT...
...oh sorry they aren't in this term.

The Tea Party started as a populist movement. Most people thought they were paying too much taxes. But then the movement was co-opted by the Koch Brothers and the rest of the 1%. Instead of helping everyone and the nation, they concocted the same old policies that coddled the 1% while cutting everything for the other 99%. They even opposed tax cuts specifically because they were for the middle class, and refused to ask 300,000 rich folk to pay a tiny amount (to them) in exchange for $1000 for 160 million people.

The intractable obstructionism and brinkmanship of the Tea Party caused the credit rating to be lowered needlessly. and all of their policies hurt the nation as a whole. I think it is downright unpatriotic to intentionally harm the economy and refuse to promote policies that would give millions of people jobs just because they think that would hurt Obama. Their hatred is more important to them than the good of the nation.

Democrat President and Republican controlled Congress - Republicans are guilty for anything bad that happens.

Republican President and Democrat controlled Congress - Republicans are guilty for anything bad that happens.

Well... I can't wait for Obama to catch one Tea-Party member trying to burn the Reichstag, sorry, I meant White House. Ban the Tea Party since they are all terrorists and... get ready for the Kristallnacht...
4 months ago: Thanks Altruist for the "knee slapping - stomach laugh" LM(Face)O ...I am so serious, I almost always get a good laugh when I see how serious you take the left media, and see no flaw at all in their propaganda... I should have posted the first half in "Offbeat" !:] Look Al, I can see the stupidity on both sides of the fence... someone somewhere needs to start some real homeland security and uphold the constitution; rebuild the greatest nation on Earth; and take care of it's own!

I've heard many montages in which all the "reporters" use the exact same verbiage, the same descriptors, all within a day's time.

4 months ago: This post illustrates the insanity that is the Media in the United States.

Calling extreme Conservatives terrorists is idiotic. Those same people then call extreme liberals terrorists. Then the Right Wing Media calls the Democrats "america haters". Then the Left Wing Media call Republicans Hate Mongers...this loop continues and then everyone wonders why we have a bunch of dumba$$ people in office. The media works so hard to prove that everyone hates america and everyone is a terrorists (or born in Kenya or whatever), nobody gets a real message about what these people actually stand for...then they go vote based on whoever is least scary to them.

This new 4th branch of government is by far the most powerful branch, they are supposed to help educate people and inform them, yet they simply make incendiary speeches about whoever gave them less money that quarter.
4 months ago: You caught that did you... it has been said that rarely people vote someone into office, it is usually voting someone out!

4 months ago: That has been said, and is probably accurate to a degree

For example: If President Obama is defeated in 2012 it will likely be because the 4th branch of the government convinced enough people that he is Satan and that is Jesus. This technique has a history of working since the old and radical religious vote the most.

This is true on the local and state level too. Every governor in Illinois has been elected because he is the "Jesus" of politics and he will create change and give people the help they need and schools will improve and so on and so forth. Then you wait a few years and that governor is the Devil and is the "New Jesus" and he will fix the corruption and blah blah blah...
4 months ago: First Satan means "accuser" so many can fit that bill based on their political platform, however as far as Jesus is concerned... only one has those credentials !:]

Grover Norquist's group "Americans For Tax Reform" controls the entire Republican party because they control most of the corporate money. If anyone dares stray from the party line their funds are cut off and the "Establishment" finds and funds someone to take their seat. Every day the Republicans meet and Grover's group agrees on "Talking Points". After the meeting they go to all of the media sources to brief the press and that is how you hear the same words and terms used.
http://truth-2-power.com/2011/12/06/i-pl...

There is no liberal press there is just the corporate press. Media giants like Clear Channel consolidated what used to diverse news outlets so all the papers, radio stations and TV stations are owned by the same few rich people. http://www.whoownsthenews.com/

At the same time Murdoch changed the nature of news to become sensationalist rumor mongering. The Fairness doctrine was eliminated so they don't have to have real opposing opinions on. They can just make stuff up instead of digging for the truth, and they cut the budgets so instead of reporters finding out the truth they all subscribe to the same "news" outlets that feed all of the stations the same garbage that the local reporters parrot word for word.

Right now the corporate media is branding the Tea Party as bomb throwers because they are. Big business in America thrives on stability and the radical tea party is all about creating instability. The insane debt ceiling debacle, the refusal to sign Obama's jobs bills that would have given all of the small businesses tax breaks, and their attempts to destroy the economy so Obama gets thrown out, makes it hard for businesses to plan.
4 months ago: Al,

Where are the trillions just given to Obama?
A little accountability please!
4 months ago:
There isn't a politician in the country that is about to tell the American people the truth. that is:

For 50 years, we have been living way beyond our means. Republicans and Democrats alike bear the responsibility equally, because neither was about to do what was necessary to deal with the situation realistically. Entitlement program expansion was foolishness. Tax reductions with a massive debt was foolishness.

Reality today - it is impossible to eliminate the deficit, create a surplus and start paying off the debt without a reduction in services, an increase in taxes and overall growth. In short, the parties have to tell their members that they must give up on their most cherished principals to deal with the situation.

That is accountability! Any politician who isn't prepared to stand up and tell the ugly truth and tell their supporters that the next 50 years will be hard and long is a liar, thief, and traitor.

This youtube clip with Bush, Clinton and Perot debating in a public forum, has Tom Brokaw telling it like it really is...
"This evening will be part debate, part game show, part talk show, and all important..."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tLP4j2Ny...

If you have time to take a trip down memory lane, watch the debate. Pay attention to the facial expressions of Bush and Clinton. And using your 20/20 hindsight, see which candidate makes the most sense.

4 months ago: Edward we were living within our means before Bush got in and screwed everything up. Clinton had 4 years of surpluses. (13 years ago not 50) All it took was a little discipline and having the rich pay their fair share. (We do have the lowest taxes in 60 years). Were it not for the obstructionism of the Republicans we could have dug ourselves out of the huge hole that Bush put us in, a lot earlier. http://www.factcheck.org/2008/02/the-bud...

The sad fact is that because of globalization most of the manufacturing jobs have gone forever. Also during the recession corporations learned how to be more efficient and eliminated a lot of jobs through automation.

The only way that our economy can recover is through massive investments in infrastructure, education, and investments in research and development. Instead the opposite is happening, we are cutting back in all of the areas we should be spending more in. The only way we can recover from the manufacturing losses is with innovation, but few kids want to go into math, science, or engineering. (Republicans hate Science) China and India are kicking our butts with engineering so we have to hire foreigners to do any innovation. We put out 140,000 engineers a year, while China is graduating a million. All of the money is in finance so that is where our brightest students go, but that only harms the nation.

4 months ago: Clinton had surpluses due to the raping of every entitlement trust fund and calling it revenue.

Having the lowest taxes in 60 years is a great thing, for those who believe in individual responsibility.

I have an aquaintance, a man who recently said to me, "I'm crazy!" I asked what he meant, and he said "Well, I'm not crazy yet, but I will be in a few days. I'm going to the hospital for three days to be evaluated for mental illness, and after that, I'm getting a check every month".

Sure enough, a few weeks later I saw him again, and he is now the proud recipient of $1400/month in mailbox money. (Well, actually now it's all electronic, the government just reloads his credit card, so he doesn't even have to go cash his check any more.)

Our social system is so screwed up, many communities even give classes on how to scam the government into giving benefits that people don't qualify for. The only way our economy can recover, (55% of our Federal budget goes to entitlement programs) is to get the theives that are usurping the good nature of the American taxpayer.

You may say that it is a very small percentage of those that are fraudulently accepting benefits. I say that I know for a fact it is a much larger number than you think.
4 months ago: A lot of people do not remember that Clinton was really unique bird.

Line item veto law was enacted by a Republican Congress with the full support of a Democrat president (Clinton). At that time they (the Republicans and the Dem President) realized that the spending was getting out of hand. This law allowed Clinton to avoid all the strange garnishments of any bill and approve only lines that are related to the law itself.

The democrats filed suit to have the law ruled unconstitutional. A blue state filed a second. The Supreme Court ruled narrowly that the line item veto crossed the executive / legislative line.

Now, things are back to the way Dems want it. For instance, look at PL 108-11, titled "War related appropriations." Tucked away nice and neat are some funding for the Department of the interior (in case they invade Yellowstone NP), plus the Department of Agriculture, along with money for the Architect of the Capital and the Library of Congress. Yet with all this posturing and chicanery going on, the president must either approve it all, refuse to sign or veto it sending it back.

Since I'm aware of this, and I think that Clinton was actually trying to do at least some good, I'm obviously crazy. Where's my $1400 a month?

4 months ago: A lot of people don't realize that Clinton wasn't even really a true Democrat. He was a New Democrat, a splinter faction in the Democratic Party that was dedicated to fiscal as well as social responsibility. He was no more a Democrat by today's terms than the Dixiecrats were in the 60's.

"In the 1968 Indiana primary, Bobby Kennedy became the first New Democrat. He believed in civil rights for all and special privileges for none, in giving poor people a hand up rather than a handout: work was better than welfare. He understood in a visceral way that progressive politics requires the advocacy of both new policies and fundamental values, both far-reaching change and social stability." Bill Clinton in his memoir "My Life"

Bill Clinton had a few good things going for him, but his smoke and mirrors routine with the budget was just that...smoke and mirrors.

Then add in the gutting of the Glass-Steegall Act which ultimately gave us the economic crisis that is still threatening to ruin the world's economies.....
4 months ago: And... here we are now.

You know, I'm starting to believe that the hole that's dug is just too deep. The way out is not going to be easy or cheap on people of US and people of the world.

Happy New 2012... Let's hope that new year will bring better days and happier life...

Yes, the deficit was almost eliminated in FY2000 (ending in September 2000 with a deficit of "only" $17.9 billion), but it never reached zero--let alone a positive surplus number. And Clinton's last budget proposal for FY2001, which ended in September 2001, generated a $133.29 billion deficit. The growing deficits started in the year of the last Clinton budget, not in the first year of the Bush administration.
