Big Brother Instates Martial Law

The right wing blogosphere is always awash with conspiracy theories about how the left wing socialists are going to take away their rights. How many of you heard about the secret plans to declare martial law, to fence off the cities, and to herd people into FEMA compounds?

There were passionate demonstrations and those on the right were nearly apoplectic about the rights and freedoms Obama had taken away. But when asked about what the specific freedoms or rights they had lost were, they never presented any instances when real rights were actually denied.

Certainly there was a lot of hysterical fear, that their taxes would be raised, that their guns would be taken away, that the country was being over run by illegal aliens. But then when faced with the actual facts, that Obama reduced taxes for everyone, that it is easier than ever to acquire guns, and that under Obama, border security has been tightened, that immigration prosecutions have increased and that the number of people entering the nation illegally has been reduced 18%, then we are told that the facts must be wrong.

Most of the information the right wing gets the angriest about is simply not true. The entire movement is based on fantastic falsehoods that no one on the left would ever consider.

We liberals believe in Democracy and in giving more power to the people to determine their own lives. We would never consider totalitarian control by a dictator. We would never consider herding people into camps or declaring martial law to limit people's rights. We want to expand those rights and to expand the rights and freedoms of the people.

Where does the right wing get these fantastic ideas? Well now we know. The right wing is afraid of people taking away rights, declaring martial law and forming a totalitarian dictatorship, because that is what they do when they get in power. They hate Democracy and want all power returned to the oligarchs, to the corporations, the people with power, the Landed Gentry, that our founding fathers favored. They would take away the rights of women and minorities and make it harder for the common riff raff to celebrate the benefits of Democracy. After all they know what is best for us.

The Republicans promised to concentrate on jobs, but as soon as they got into power, they did nothing about jobs, they concentrated on taking away our rights. They are attempting to take away the right to receive inexpensive health care and want to abolish Medicare, so tens of millions of the old and infirm will be sacrificed on the alter of their insurance corporation's profits.

They attacked all women's rights to choose, they attacked the working people's rights to determine their working conditions, by eliminating collective bargaining, they attacked the ability of the poor to better themselves through education by making education affordable only to the rich, they attacked the rights of minorities to vote, with stricter voter ID and registration laws, and they destroyed our democracy by overwhelming the media with their propaganda and by buying the votes of the ignorant and impressionable, with their unlimited spending with no disclosure.

Once in power they signed bills that would give the millionaires and billionaires another trillion dollars, and will pay for that by making the poor and the middle class suffer.

The right wing was afraid of the left taking away nebulous and undefined rights, but when they got in power they actually did take away very real rights and freedoms.

The left would never consider curtailing the rights of the people in a community to determine the best way to educate their children, or to govern their community, but the right has taken that power away with emergency fiscal managers. Political cronies have been given the power to take over entire school districts, to fire hundreds of teachers, and eliminate entire schools with no input from the community. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archive...

They have made laws that enable a single tyrant to come into a community, declare martial law, dismiss the elected officials, the city councils, and any other representatives of the community, so the tyrant's corporate masters can make more money from that community. The people no longer matter. There is no balance of power. We are returning to the days of being ruled by royal monarchs and their corrupt henchmen. We the people have become nothing but peons and serfs because those in power only listen to money. Benton Harbor is an example of what happens when Bush's Unitary Executive philosophy is put into practice.

The right wing denigrates big government but when they are in power, they try to take away our democracy, and turn the power over to dictators that serve the corporate elite. http://www.americablog.com/2011/04/more-...

The chasm between them is so great as to make Mars' Valles Marineris appear a mere crack in a sidewalk by comparison.

It is as if you had just posted that 2 + 2 = green.

We are of the same species. Citizens of the same Republic. Speak the same language. But intellectually have nothing whatsoever in common. Our world views are utterly and - to my mind - irreconcilably different.

No nation so divided can long stand. And the sad part is that, because of that world view, you are unable to see your doom coming for you.

Sad

I apologize if this seems critical or if it seems I am saying you are wrong or evil or such. You are none of those. I believe you are honest, hard working and a good man, Al. We simply have nothing intellectually in common.

There are several initiatives in play as we speak trying to limit firearm and ammunition accessibility. Would you like to hear about them?

If the carbon tax, the "excess" profits tax, the insurance tax, the soda tax, the sugar tax, and all the other left wing ideas are allowed to come to fruition, there will be large tax increases. That's why we continue to fight.

You can believe this or not. It isn't that the Democrats and Obama don't want these things, it's just that they have been incompetent and ineffective at getting their way.

As for the freedoms infringed upon by the Bush administration, how many of those freedoms have been restored by the Obama administration, and how many have been restricted even further?

The left fancies an impossible utopian society where everyone is cared for, everyone is exactly the same, and sits around cutting out paper dolls and singing "I'm glad I taught the world to sing...in perfect harmony".

It isn't gonna happen.

The right fancies a perfect utopian society where everyone is free to excel according to his(her) own abilities, free from interference. That ain't gonna happen either.

What's gonna happen is that we are sit here on our internet keyboards arguing about it, while everything is being stolen from us by the same left and right politicians that we put up there to watch out for us.

Now take your red and blue colored glasses off, and see which of our politicians voted for what. Look for patterns of behavior, and you might find that we are being manipulated down the river. A nation divided is much easier to rule.

Here's a conundrum: If the Mayan calendar was discovered in the 1600s, and deciphered in 1832, why are we just recently being bombarded with it? Then we have I Ching, Nostradamus, and a few others. Do you think we are being prepared for the "inevitable"? A person who is resigned to his fate goes out much less violently and much more peacefully.

The Georgia Guidestones recommend reducing the overall population of planet Earth by around 6 billion people.

Just a thought.

What I don't understand is how everyone on the right can talk all of this patriotic rubbish but if you look at why we fought the revolutionary war. It was against the tyrants that they now serve. It is the corporate and affluent elite that own the media and are doing the manipulation to benefit themselves.

The right wing see themselves as the revolutionaries but they are actually the Torries fighting to keep the tyrants in power.

Our founders wanted to do away with the rule of the rich and tyrannical monarchs who impose taxation without representation, and yet it is the right that is taking away the right of the people to have a say in their own lives. It is the right that is throwing money at the already obscenely rich and trying to pay for their extravagance by taking food from the mouths of starving babies and by throwing the elderly and infirm into the streets.

The Tea Party has been manipulated to voluntarily have their taxes raised, because the amount of revenue is a constant. If you give tax breaks to the rich it only results in shifting the burden onto the middle class.

Wake up and stop fighting for your oppressors!

81% of the population are in favor of a surtax on the rich. Even Tea Party supporters support leaving Social security alone by a two to one margin, and two thirds of the country think Medicare should also be left alone. However 60% believe that the rich should pay more for Medicare and Social Security. 62% of the public believe collective bargaining rights should be preserved for public workers. http://thinkprogress.org/2011/03/03/poll...

All Americans are concerned about the deficit but it is way down the list. Now that we have gotten Bin Laden there will be a big push to end all of our wars and slash military spending. That will take a big chunk out of the deficit.

All the Republicans need to do is drag their ideologically radical leaders into line with the majority.

72% don't know their neighbors name.
70% of Americans do not know what the Constitution is.
61% don't know the words to the National Anthem.

Are you referring to the National Debt that the Conservatives created 90% of, through military buildup, wars, tax cuts to the rich and unpaid medicare gifts to the drug companies? Or are you referring to the 7 million jobs lost because of the economic collapse that Bush caused? Or is it the recession itself that conservatives caused but the liberals are getting us out of?

12 months ago: I wasn't referring to the deficit I was referring to the National Debt.

If you just look at the trillions of dollars of debt presidents from Carter on created, $7.46 trillion and Democrats created $1.91 Trillion. That is about 75% by the Republicans.

But the straight numbers doesn't account for the debt relative to inflation or as a part of the GDP. If you consider the Increase in the debt as a percentage of the GDP, Republicans increased the National Debt by 62.7% of the GDP and Democrats decreased the National Debt by 1.91% of the GDP.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_de...

Sort of shows you which party is better at balancing the budget doesn't it?

By the way: 250,000 new jobs this month. 2 million jobs added in the last 14 months. How many jobs did Bush create during his 8 years, using the same sort of voodoo economics the Republicans are pushing? Zero net jobs!

Sort of shows you which party is the party of jobs doesn't it?

Jobs

"Under Obama, the private sector has shed some 2.9 million jobs while the federal government has grown by 40,000 (after growing massively, the federal workforce shrank throughout the summer). Total government jobs, however, shrank by 357,000 jobs, mainly because of cuts at the state and local levels."

"Under Bush, private employment shrank by 673,000 jobs, federal employment grew by 50,000 jobs, and government employment grew by 1,753,000 jobs."

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/249...

Why would we look at the numbers as a percent of the GDP? When the GDP goes up, the deficit should shrink. Straight numbers, adjusted for inflation, from Carter through present, is 60% Republican and 40% Democrat. Now if you want to adjust it further for Republican Presidents with democrat majorities in Congress, the numbers will look a little less to your liking.

It is interesting that Bush demonstrated who the party of Big government was also, since government jobs are all he created.

I would like to see where you get the 60% & 40% figures.

Also the 2.9 million job figure you blame on Obama occurred before any of Obama's stimulus plans were made or went into effect, so those job losses were actually due to Bush blowing up the economy.

" From December 2007 to July 2009 – the last year of the Bush second term and the first six months of the Obama presidency, before his policies could affect the economy – private sector employment crashed from 115,574,000 jobs to 107,778,000 jobs. Employment continued to fall, however, for the next six months, reaching a low of 107,107,000 jobs in December of 2009. So, out of 8,467,000 private sector jobs lost in this dismal cycle, 7,796,000 of those jobs or 92 percent were lost on the Republicans' watch or under the sway of their policies. Some 671,000 additional jobs were lost as the stimulus and other moves by the administration kicked in, but 630,000 jobs then came back in the following six months. The tally, to date: Mr. Obama can be held accountable for the net loss of 41,000 jobs (671,000 – 630,000), while the Republicans should be held responsible for the net losses of 7,796,000 jobs. "
