This is intended to supplement Coloranter’s earlier post about apostrophes. Now, there are a few things on the docket that I would like to clear up.
1. Watch the YouTube Video Provided. It helps.
2. They’re, There, Their. 3 different ones? How do you know which to use?
a. “Their” is possessive, for example “That’s their puppy!”
b. There is a contraction: meaning… They Are = They’re
c. And finally, There, as if you were saying: Look there, it’s Obama!
3. You almost never need the phrase “the fact that,” the fact that it’s just useless fluff shouldn’t surprise you.
4. Its vs. it’s!
a. It’s, really is it is (confusing ‘ey?) meaning: It’s Coloranter’s rant, Tom Wing just stole the idea
b. Its is possessive! (you get the idea)
5. Your vs. you’re
a. Your is possessive, as in, that’s your rant and this is mine.
b. You’re is a contraction, meaning: You’re (you are) a liberal crazyface!
6. Comma Splices!
a. Ohhhhh these are my favorite, mostly because I have the issue that I just go on and on, I hope you get the point (if you don’t, a comma splice is when you separate two sentences with a comma).
If you aren't careful the Grammar Police will get you too!
