The End Of The World!

The end of the world is near! That's if you believe Harold Camping. He is a evangelist who runs a station called Family Radio. According to his beliefs Judgement day will be in mid May of this year. May 21st to be exact.

The question is what if that were true? How would you live your last few months?

Working in Hospice I help patients with this choice on a daily basis. The choices they make are always varied. Many chose to go on an exotic vacation. While others just want to live the rest of their lives in a low key manner. Spending time with family and friends and enjoying time at home. I have also worked with a patient determined to work at his job as a teacher till 48 hours before he died.

Living with a fatal disease is very similar to knowing that the end of the world is coming. It takes a strong person to wake up and live the day knowing their time on earth is limited. I am not so sure I am strong enough to go through this. I am one of the people who just simply want to die in my sleep.

If you knew Judgement Day was really May 21st what would you do? Would you get closer to God? Would you forgive your family and friends that you have held a grudge against for years? Would you max out your credit cards and laugh at the banks?

My second job is a Flight RN. A first responder. Everyday I see how someone's life can end in a split second. We are all just one car accident away from meeting our maker.

The lessons I have learned is life really is a gift. I am not a religious person but I do believe there is something waiting for us when we pass. I live each day as a gift. Live it with no regrets.

As you know working in a hospice can be very draining that and attending road accidents by air can make you believe you need somebody to say ,"well done" for all you do frequently.

These people, in your hospice who have limited time need somebody to be a bit upbeat. Without sounding horrible, are you in the right frame of mind to be flying helicopters. And counciling fatally ill patients?
15 months ago: LOL. Depressed? Were did you get that? Live each day to the fullest? I assure you I live a great life. Great girlfriend, great family, great friends, huge house. My message was live each day as it was a gift. Its is.

Sorry to keep on at you happy, where does the huge house come into this story. If you did not have a huge house would you, then, be unhappy?

Re:Paper Tiger, he has no reason to be depressed. He believes in Jesus Christ and is heaven bound, is that not true Happygolucky?

The majority of people I grew up with were roman catholics. They all believe in Jesus Christ. The catholic Jesus is a bitter man and talks about revenge, scurges, plagues and eternal damnation. After being fed on that doctrine for a few years you are bound to be depressed. Catholics have more breakdowns, and more baggage than any other religion.

So if you have had a horrible life on earth, and you may have committed a mortal sin, by not going to church on sunday. If you die before you get to a coffessional box, you burn in hell for all eternity. Edward, you are right why should we be depressed because we have Jesus?
15 months ago: Trust me Paper I have no problem with depression and I am not a Roman Catholic. You on the other hand have written some dark posts. I worry about you. I hope that you are on good medication. Start taken an anti-depressent and call me in 6 weeks.

Whether the world gets destroyed by giant meteor or you simply die of natural causes, the result is the same - your dead. Maybe it's some kind of comforting notion to think it would be better to check out with everybody else at the same time in some of world cataclysm, but the end of the world is certain for all of us, whether it be sooner or later.

Also, just to correct a minor point of your article, he believes the return of Christ will be May 21st, but that the end of earth's existence will not be until October.

He also made a similar prediction in Sept. of '94, but blames the lack of end times on a calculation error.
15 months ago: The end of the world will be by perspective: lose that hair do? Lose that lunch? Lose that dollar? Lose that toilet paper? Lose that property? Lose that coat, warm glass of milk an comfy quilt? Say what -- You want laws and entitlements to shield you for ever?

Self-reliance is a thing of the past, and if there ever comes a time when we have built ourselves up to nearly 8 billion people on earth, and we all need to be self-reliant from the corporations by virtue of loss of energy and material supplies, about .01% will make do. Where are we gonna get everything we need when they fail?
