With baseball season in full swing and a great story of the Tampa Bay Rays making the World Series last year, people are now starting to question who are these guys and where do they come from. Well one question that people don't understand is, "Why do they call themselves the Tampa Bay Rays when they play in Saint Petersburg"?
Well, I have the answer and I will try to break it down for you. First of all, Tampa is the name of the city and it's not called Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay is the body of water that touches Tampa and Saint Petersburg.
That is why the team is called the Tampa Bay Rays. The actual bay is what relates all of the surrounding areas. Hence, the team name Tampa Bay Rays. Now I would say that is an easy explanation but even people on ESPN seem not to grasp this. I hope I was able to break this down and answer that question.
