I just get more sick to my stomach reading and hearing how hard working AMERICAN CITIZENS have no choice applying for jobs. what I mean is at some point we have said that were not cleaning toilets ha! ha! well now, we will clean those toilets and for whatever pay. However, we can't even get an interview let alone get hired to do that and they say were just lazy!!! I don't think so we threw all out standards away just to be able to survive and will take any job that may be available even if its cleaning toilets and now we can't even get a toe through the door. We just don't exist any longer by those we we trusted and gave a job to have our back. I have hit bottom totally, not being able to afford to keep my car on the road and forcing me to sell my own transportation because of the law. (you can't leave a car sit with no tags) Car pooling or BUMMING is whats left and I feel, if I knew where to begin in gathering people its time to be seen not just heard. Maybe we need to go back to the real way to draw attention of the truth about the 99ers and by doing so making a trip to Washington to camp on our presidents door step. I just need some advise, help and support in getting the word out to any and all supporters. I am desperate at this point to survive and what might sound silly to some in doing this. All I say is, if there are any better ideas. I would love to hear or know of them. Its only becoming worse with all that is happening around us and may god be with them. But we are now losing our place on the back burner and if we can't help ourselves how do they expect us to help others.

I wonder if the 99r's shouldn't start doing stuff like that? Pull together as a community. Help each other. Start trading work instead of money. Workshare so two or three people can share the same job so while no one gets rich at least no one will starve. http://workingmoms.about.com/od/worksche...

Can you make a deal with the landlord to do repairs on the place in exchange for rent? Can you grow vegetables in the front yard? Is there a local place where you can set up a market?

Your work skills should be useful to someone. Even if you can't get a job you should be able to trade yous skills for a chicken in the pot or something like that. http://commonwealthcenter.org/timebank.h...

14 months ago: Sometimes I find that comment very insulting. First you have to be in tune with everyone's suffering to give advice or suggestions. I don't believe everyone is. Like the other guy before who said "Grow a Garden" every time someone said they were having it hard. Some of us live in cold climates, can't grow anything out through a sidewalk. We can't squat on land as I said before to grow things. We can't takeover anything from anyone else to grow a garden. On and on. More expensive to grow a garden. Better to put that energy in something more productive and more reasonable. No such thing as pulling together as a community. No one helps anyone as everyone is out for themselves. Your next door neighbor won't help, as you don't even know who they are. People are not friendly let alone willing to help anyone. I don't think legally you can work share on a job. A lot comes into play. Talk about work skills, those skills are acquired through education and experience. Money making skills that have paved our way for years and years. Bartering may have been good in the 1800s. This World is a different place. I find a little intentional snobbery in that remark.

Therefore, they have to rely on rent being paid in order to survive themselves. I just want a job and not wonder or have to rely on others for help. I want to be on the giving, helping and supporting side and not the receiver. Wishing we all could be givers.

Maybe they should grow a garden if they find they may have to. Of course, they will have to wait weeks before anything is grown and suitable to eat. Too bad.

There are tons of jobs out there. Peoples' pride gets the best of them. My township is hiring new trash collectors. They make pretty good money, decent benefits, and you're home at dinner. No one who was once an accountant wants to do it.

I'm still waiting to hear the article about the ex-ceo who has to work two jobs to feed his kids.

You guys need to swallow your pride and take whatever job you can get. Until then, no more whining!

Let them grow a garden. Wait until they have trouble with the economy. You'll find something good for yourself. They are trying to be demeaning. I hope we get the benefit legislation passed. Let the Government take pay cuts and take lower health insurance. That should save the economy big time.

We would love to work, just give me a job and I will work. You must live in an area where there are thousands of jobs and no one looking for one. NOT Get your facts straight before you open mouth. As for me, when my father lost his job our income went from 6 figures to zero. My mother tried to go back to work, and eventually did. I started working over 40 hours per week at a year round pool while in school full time to help make ends meet. I even transferred schools! These are the types of sacrifices that need to happen. I don't make a lot of money, but every little bit helps. Then more recently my dad and mom both found jobs, yet I am still working. This is the mindset you need.

14 months ago: I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. What you lack is the ability to see that most everyone has done that. I worked from the age of 14 years old. My daughter worked from the time she was 16. She paid her college, and she is still paying off loans. You want us to pull a salary of $1 an hour. Sorry can't do that. I won't clean toilets either. That's okay for people who do that job but we have different paths. (That is even meant for a put down). We are way beyond you in mindset. Open up your mind to see it. You haven't taken on the responsibility or have the experience that we have. I sympathize with your journey but usually it gets you out of a hole. People who get somewhere know how hard it is to get there. I don't feel sorry for myself. I know what I have and earned. I've been on top of the World. I'm still that same person. So you can't compare. I don't want your mindset it isn't as clear as ours.

14 months ago: Since the minimum wage is what, 7 something, I doubt you'd make a dollar an hour. Just in my area I know wawa, Starbucks, and a few retail stores are hiring (one pays about 11 an hour plus commission). I clearly understand, I get that you are hurting, I get it. My family took no government assistance, none, now I'm not advocating that because understand everyone is different, but we survived on my wages and a little help from some family for two years before my mom went back to work. After that it was another year before my dad found a job. Now we're beteer off than we were before, but that is because my parents didn't waste time complaining about the government. They instead applied for every job listing within 100 mile radius. We almost lost our house, cars, etc, so don't tell me I can't understand.

Have you applied at Starbucks? Because at this point you could be working there while looking for another job. That way you at least have a little money.

The issue here really isn't me, or anyone, for that matter. The job economy sucks, we get it. You need to make the best of the situation, take a job in which you are underpaid and overqualified in the interim.

Now there was a poster who said he would take ANY job, but there truly are no jobs, that is a different story.

Seriously people, spend less time ranting and more time job searching. Apply everywhere and move if you have to. I'm not saying it's easy or trying to belittle you, I'm just saying it's time to take matters into your own hands.

14 months ago: Legend, I was being sarcastic. Waitresses are getting $3 an hour and there is no business for tips in my area. I am going to school for Medical. I found my way to resolving this problem and my daughter is working. She is working in something that is associated with her science degree but has many chances to get back to where she was. Still it is the Economy. People have to complain about the Government or else there will be no Democracy left. The way it is heading is that are freedoms will be taken away one by one. They still haven't taken away our rights totally. Everyone is different with different goals in mind. You forget that without medical insurance people have a difficult time handling manual jobs. Without a car, they can't get anywhere. It isn't like they can go out and stand on their feet all day and hustle coffee. At this moment I am working on my medical test and talking to you because everyone is important to me, including you. I'm using my head to do better. By the way, my father sold wax for cars in mid winter years ago when the economy was bad and having a wife and 4 kids to support. I come from that type of mindset. He worked for his family many cold winters and his family always stood by him and was proud. I think our Government wants us all the be the same. Socialism. We can't lay down and accept what they are doing. That is what they want. Instead of always looking for fault, they should say we are all Americans and have to be a team and help each other. You never know when something changes and guys like you are in need. Economy is unstable. Sunny

Where I live it is unfriendly, and it is considered a small Town, but there is a big population, and I am just about 7 miles outside of NYC. People wouldn't help you if you needed it. At least you tried to change things and make a difference by going around to others to see if you could get them on board. That took a lot of guts. In the East people are not on the same page whatsoever. When you get more on your feet, would you consider moving out of that small Town with your family? It might help expand their horizons and give them opportunity. The odds are against you in getting ahead in a Town of populaton at 100. Better to go somewhere you can be happy. Oh my, We did make a move to another state Florida with my boyfriends family and what a mess, lies. They were so misleading. We gave up our home and gave it a try and was told that we could rent a room for 250.00 a month, split the eletric with 3 other room mates and buy our own food (which it always seem to come up missing little by little). Also, his mother had work set up for me to clean condos at 75.00 per condo which took only 3 hrs to do and 4 was the amount that could be done cause you only had some much time to get off the island by boat transportation. Sounded great huh! well it was a huge mess. prices changed as soon as we got there his brother wanted 400.00 a month for just a room and his mother informed us that she could not give me the work she needed it. now we were screwed in trying to get back. luckily an old friend needed a worker for my boyfriend and he sent 700.00 advance pay to get us back to maryland (Thank God for him) Our home was in a motel, pleading with them that we could only afford 500.00 a month and they agreed. That was our exsperience trying to move to another state and with family.

I don't think you will ever fall for that again. I've had to depend solely on myself and my choices which have turned out okay. I don't want to live near the City any more even though my Town is pretty and quiet. I'm going to set my goals for the ocean area. 14 months ago: Evelyn. I did not mean to be mean spirited or demeaning. I was trying to suggest things that might help your situation.

When I lost my job as a teacher I worked as a custodian for two years. I have done repairs in exchange for rent, and that turned into a job as a handyman fixing up other units, unclogging sinks, replacing light switches etc. for a property manager. You can add that to your resume.

I am sorry that you live in a big city where the attitude is one of selfish greed and fear where everyone looks out for themselves and are reluctant to form communities. Any situation will be harder if you are going it alone. Any situation is better if you can find someone else to talk to if nothing else. Even Rant Rave is good for that, you have a chance to vent and get support.

There are millions of people who share your fate. Why doesn't someone set up a network to organize all of these people? There is strength in numbers, and the larger the group the more collective knowledge about how to survive your situation and how to make the situation better. Knowledge is power.

That is what I was suggesting. If you have a busted faucet and another 99er has the skills to fix it, maybe you can pay by watching his kid for a few hours or something. There are thousands of similar situations if you can get organized.

I know it is difficult to imagine growing food while it is still winter and when you live in a couple of rooms with no access to land or a deck where you can grow container vegetables, but even in big cities rooftop gardens are springing up. If nothing else you can have a few plants indoors. It helps cheer up the place and cleans the air too. Everyone can do things like sprouting to increase nutritional content and get some greens. http://www.urbangardeninghelp.com/

I am fortunate to have lived in better climates with more space. But by organizing we got the city council to open up unused space for community gardens where people in apartments can use that space to grow a garden. I have worked in a community based food store called the Beanery where if I volunteer to work a few hours in the store I get a 20% discount on the food, which was mostly organic and in bulk. You can add that to your resume too.

If no one else is willing to help you, organize those in your community that are in the same boat and see what you can do to help each other.

Just a little silly story but my boyfriend went mushroom hunting last year because it would be a meal however it ended up being private property that he crossed over so with a bag full of mushrooms he left after realizing reaching his car a older man was standing there with the police. long story short the older man took the bag of mushrooms and he was arrestted for trespassing. We ended up with no dinner and he with a charge, probations and a big fine. We found out in court that this old man sees people who wonder onto his land instead of telling them he watches while they get what they can and when they start to leave then he baracades them at their car with the police and takes all the mushrooms which we found out that he was selling for a nice profit which he could being that people wondered on his land. We found out thru court documents my boyfriend was the nineth person this man ended up collecting bags of mushrooms that most was found before crossing over on to his land. People are only out for them selves (well most) or they think its a scam. Getting people anymore to work together is like pulling teeth.

I also used to lived in a small town (200). The good thing about that was that people supported each other and helped if you were in trouble. Think of the local volunteer fire dept.

The bad thing was that everyone knew everything that went on (what else are they going to talk about?), and if you were a newbie they didn't accept you into their social order very quickly.

Let people know that you are a good, hard working person, in need, and they will help you if you need it.

I can't beleive companys want you to relocate then apply for the job which does not gaurantee that you would even get an interview or the job. I think that before uprooting and giving up my home this time my family and I talked and I would take a motel room to live at to be sure that the job was a sure thing first. Figuring out the money sistuation to do so will be another hurdle to cross if I would get that far.

But, I don't think they think it through before speaking and I also think that their own pride gets in the way. It amazes me how people change when they finally become employed and how they easily forget how trying and depressing it was for them at that time. Hardship is far from over and jobs/businesses are still on the line and layoffs are continuing. So whos to say that the ones who have been ignorant with there advice since they were lucky enough to gain employment, just might end up back in the boat with us then that would be a embarassing situation for them. I just needed to express these feeling cause I have been thinking alot about a few post that I received and I also am a true believer of carma and what comes around goes around. (Evy)

Usually you can't change anyone's opinion. It is set in stone from the day they start speaking to you, especially when they are opposed to 99ers and think the money they are getting is free. Blamed us for the Tiers when we didn't even ask for any. Usually the number of people out of work account for that. It was pure Government strategy that didn't pay off to accomplish what they wanted to get from the people.

Otherwise, it is considered plagerism to use it. Sometimes I find new information too, but I leave the address where I got the reference material from. Cypress has been on a long time and is pretty much versed in the correct way of posting. I had to learn also. I probably knocked his jaw out of alignment the first time I posted. I know he will laugh at me. Right, Cypress? Sunny

I did not understand really what he was talking about except he is always a jerk about things has been to me since the very first time I posted anything. sometimes when i try and post things. I have kept coping them over and over but ever time I pasted it. It came out as sentences only If he would just try to be a little more explainatory about issues instead of trying to make someone look as if there ignorant and stupid which seems to be his agenda. Then it would be alot easier and go a long way to except information from him. I certainitly meant know harm and my applogise to all for my mistake. Thanks Sunny for your help and not belittleling me.
