Another week and another unemployment benefits report is out. This week the jobless report showed a sharp rise in unemployment benefits being claimed by Americans. This after a previous week showed a sharp drop in claims. The experts are claiming that because of bad weather last week; many people couldn't get out to file for unemployment benefits. Therefore, the jobless claims numbers were smaller as government offices were not open.
With an unemployment number of over 9 percent and at least 14 million people who are out of work, this economy is still not recovering. Yes, little pockets seem to be making some headway; however, the overall economy is still in shambles. Currently 3.91 million people rely on regular unemployment benefits to stave off the unthinkable. Add to that another 4.5 million that, including this writer, are collecting extended unemployment benefits just to survive.
The governments' numbers show that over 9.25 million people in this country are receiving some kind of unemployment benefits to survive this economic nightmare. To top all of this off, experts are estimating that there might be about 2.2 million jobs created this next year. Not nearly enough to whittle down the unemployment numbers to anything significant.
What really is scary is that many of the programs needed to bring about a more robust economy are being chopped off the budget this year. Many programs needed to help those who need it the most are being eliminated. The President's push for green alternatives for job creation is a joke. No company in this present economic atmosphere is going to invest heavily in green unless it makes a profit.
