Hi Everyone,

The time has come in the life of RantRave to address the issue of spam posts.

Many of you have complained that spam posts have ruined your enjoyment of the site and taken away from the ranting/raving experience. We are working on a solution to the problem, which should be implemented in the near future.

Please note, if you are one that is guilty of spamming, we will not hesitate to delete your post, or your account, if you do not stop.

I know some of you may see this as a form of censorship, but, the way we see it, if all of our users become annoyed by a few and decide to leave completely, our site is no longer valuable to anyone.

If you, as a user, feel a post is spam, please flag it and refrain from commenting on it.

Regards,
Alex Layton

34 months ago: It's not so much people writing about products or companies. In fact, product reviews are encouraged (we even have a category dedicated to those).

It's more directed at people who only write about one thing, for the sake of aggitating.

34 months ago: AmishKing, I don't think you're to blame. I think everyone here but me has written on the subject that shall be named in one way or another. and the only reason I avoided it was because it's one thing I don't know anything about and don't have any desire to start now.

34 months ago: Yeah, but I was the first. I asked a question, and started this whole thing. Actually, it's alex layton's fault for getting rantrave on the google news. That's how all those who won't be named found our wonderful site.

why do they ruin everything?!!!!
34 months ago: We have to keep in mind, agitators are armed with the same language as everyone else. And without realizing the difference, happily interrupt the interchange most of us enjoy.

read that, don't comment, and see if it makes any sense to you.

I was trying to figure it out, and i cannot :(
34 months ago: What has happened here is that this site has unfortunately come into the crossfire of an information war being waged between a bunch of internet kids and the cult of scientology. The scientologists often look for free sites that can get their spam stories onto google news. Recently Anonymous, the activist group (yes I am part of it) caught wind of this and started retaliating by exposing their abuses through this. Unfortunately it has caused problems on this site but at least you are aware now of the potential for abuse. If the scientologists put spam articles up, I will suggest to those on the protest site that they just flag them as spam here to get them taken down. I know it sounds a bit anti free speech, but keep in mind that the scientologists are cultists and are trying to use this site to recruit people and to fool the public into thinking they are a safe group to get involved with. Anonymous is just trying to be helpful in warning people about them, I don't think most people on the protest site want to hurt this site, they just don't want the scientologists getting away with printed lies and spamming without consequence.

A similar thing happened on the site Nolan Chart, after a discussion with the admin, we did a similar flag only thing and scientologists were eventually banned from posting new articles due to abuse of the site. If you want to prevent a flood of scientology articles, we have a list of their corporate IP's that we can give you to either ban or put on a watchlist so you can review their articles and pull them if they appear to be spam.
34 months ago: Of course an anonie would tell his side of the story. Actually Nolan Chart, has begin enforcing the policies its founder intended from the start. If it is new or news, it can be published on Nolan Chart says the founder. And this is good.

Myself, I find it amusing when anonies begin an alley load of critical articles. And then anonies who didn't contribute to the beginning of the back and forth, come along with shocked surprise and innocence and characterize the interaction as is done here, was done at Nolan Chart and Shortnews and Wikipedia, etc. etc. etc.

Happy days.
34 months ago: Hi Terry. I see the let you out of RPF after you admitted to child labor inside the cult back on Nolan. Terry, I know you are sore at Nolan and Wikipedia for kicking you off. Remember that you started all of the fights on the sites above by using it to forward spam to google news. Anonymous responded with the truth. If site owners asked us to knock it off with the flood of articles, we did. Notice that you guys didn't and you were subsequently tossed off of the sites for abuse of their policies. Our side of it is we don't want to try to force anything on site owners. We just use the same outlets we catch you using when we see dangerous lies and spam being spread. Sometimes this leads to a clash with the communities, but we are willing to be reasonable and work it out. If you were as well, you might get further. But the scientology handbook says you have to always attack, so you just press on until the site owner finally removes you when he or she has had enough. I expect this to play out the same way is has about 10 times before in the last year. Might want to start looking for a new place to spam :)
34 months ago: Well, I do kinda object to the excess personal criticism. Have a good one, Siempre Solo.
34 months ago: Siempre, if it was just goofy beliefs that was wrong with scientology, I wouldn't be here right now. Google around enough and you will learn about the horrific abuse that has gone on and still goes on against members inside, namely the ones who end up in the "Sea org". This is the reason anonymous, or at least the ones who continued with "project chanology" after early last are worked up over this issue. Not over beliefs, but over the cult really being organized crime and financial exploitation that is hiding behind religion to gain special protection. People are afraid to speak out against a religion so they use that to try to silence their critics and to keep their money off the books via special IRS recognition as a tax exempt organization. You don't have to take my word for it, you can read on the web about the terrible things they have done for yourself, from ex-members and others. It is all over the web now.

When anonymous first started against scientology, it was more of a trolling thing. But we soon saw that what other critics were saying about it was in fact real. The trolls got bored and left, but thousands of young people joined the ranks of the critics to fight this monster.

You know, if the mafia started shilling on this board, I wonder... would it be tolerated? We see it as the same when scientology is shilling on here. It is a dangerous organization to be involved with, and we are just trying to get the word out.

Anyway, you'll notice that I've not written any more articles for a while since I saw it was upsetting some people on the site. But I want the admins and everyone else to be aware of why this happened and what scientology is capable of and what they really are. Our concern isn't so much with a big war, but the safety of people reading both this site and google news.

Don't compare scientology to the mafia, the mafia has a rule against killing people in church.
(not really a joke folks)
