South Park Creators under fire again due to new show "JC".

It appears that after the censoring of the Muhammad in their cartoons, the makers of South Park have learned their lesson; they have learned that when some shuts you up for offending people, then it's time to scream louder and offend even more people.

There is a new show being developed that many, including myself, do not think that they will even allow it to hit the actual line up. The show is slated to be called "JC" and the premise of the show is that Jesus has come to New York to escape his father, and the reputation that follows him.

Christian groups heard of this, and they were outraged, it appears that the length of time the cartoon has gently poked at religion was close enough, but an entire show dedicated to it is an entirely different issue, the leaders of several religious conservative groups have formed a new group that is being called, "Citizens against Religious Bigotry" or CARB.

They are against this whole heartedly now, they say the entire purpose of the show is to mock and be offensive to Christians.

CARB has sent out 250 letters to Comedy Central advertisers asking them to not advertise for the show, even though the advertisers have not even seen the show yet.

Rabbi Daniel Lapin, the president of the alliance of Jews and Christians said, "To exclude only Islam" from your comedy "is a sort of pathetic amalgam of hypocrisy and cowardice".

They now all want the same censor that Islam got, and this is exactly what draws Muhammad day was all about. The cowardice of the company allowed itself to be open to be censored by anyone that gests offended.
The heart of the comedy of the south park series is that it highlights affairs of the common society, mocks it, satirizes it, and then puts it down for the viewers to think about.

With no sense of mockery, there is no way to do this, the true source of comedy stems from other peoples tragedy, so as long as everyone gets a chance to be mocked, all people get a chance to laugh as well.

People have come to a point that their beliefs they have are so certain that it is undeniable, yet they also know that they have no proof of what they claim. This is why tension is so high. If they did an episode around the concept of people that denied the theory of gravity, no one would care, people would either find it stupid, some would find it funny, but no one would get offended.

That is because we know gravity to exist, and no one needs convincing of this, and we don't have to constantly re-affirm our faith in gravity for it to be a good thing.
People really need to consider that if their belief can be damaged so easily as someone making a joke at its expense then we need to really think about the reality and honesty of the belief to begin with.

If we get to silence people about their beliefs and their sense of humor simply because it offends us, at what point do I get to stand up and ban television preachers? I don't want to see that day that I can. I can simply not watch it, I can simply ignore it, and go about my life as if it never even was on television believe it or not.

Freedom for all or freedom for none. They are the only two options available. So if you want to keep your freedom to believe as you so choose, then you need to grow a thicker hide.

The religious field is so rich in targets that they could undeniably keep the series going for many seasons.

I might have to start watching.

23 months ago: What I always liked about South Park is that anyone is fair game. The tree huggers, the spotted owl saviors, the "what about the children" crowd, the so-called enlightened ones have all taken their turn on the roasting spit.

I am very disappointed in them bowing to a few death threats and censoring the Muhammad episode, I guess they aren't as tough as they like to pretend.
23 months ago: They (Trey and Matt) did not censor it. Comedy Central did.

Instead of treating Islam as a sacred cow due to threats of violence, the producers should have refocused their efforts to skewer Islam even more. In buckling under to twisted zealots, they have proven they have no business skewering any religion.

In appeasing violent zealots from Islam, they are encouraging other religions to emulate Islam's violent method of suppressing criticism. And to ignore Islam while continuing to skewer other religions, indicates that South Park's producers are engaging in hypocritical cowardice of the lowest order, and I don't find that humorous, much less worth supporting. The show has now jumped the shark.
23 months ago: There wasn't any appeasement or buckling on their behalf. It was all Comedy Central, and no doubt the unedited version will surface on the season 14 DVD at some point.

"In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it."

If they're going to treat Islam as a sacred cow (due to fear of violence), the suits at Comedy Central should let it be known they won't be broadcasting any shows with storylines that might be offensive to any other religion.

But in being cowed by these threats, they are in fact impugning Islam as a dangerous religion that warrants this self-censorship, and they are giving fuel to the religious right pundits who can rightly accuse the entertainment industry of a 'religious hate' double standard and result in government enforced censorship to prevent such a double standard, and curtailment of freedom of expression in general. It's all or none, and cowardly appeasement is a recipe for more appeasement until your name is Quisling.
23 months ago: You should watch, or re-watch, the two part episode about Family Guy. "Cartoon Wars" They actually address this issue because in that episode, Family Guy was going to show Muhammad due to the "Writers" insisting on keeping it, and Cartman and Kyle were going to Hollywood to have the Episode pulled.

It seems that even the show that mocks everyone is not free to mock Islam.

What I do find interesting is how when the receiving subject poses a threat to them, They abandon the jokes on that subject, And start to make fun of another.

Still on the Muhammed subject, They first blamed Comedy Central for bleeping the episode, Saying that its not "our choice".
Fair enough, But hey, Dont you guys have a website where you upload your Episodes?

Then after the time frame is up, When there allowed to legally post the episode on there site, They then say, "We are unable to post the episode here because of blablabla"

Again they pass the blame on and make excuses.

I personally think they got scared, And tried to keep up a "we dont care who we insult" attitude. (But really they do)

Now back to this article, They have jumped from Muhammed to Jesus.
Why? Well I think they are assuming Christians wont pose such a threat.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing hype this brings.
PS, For anybody interested in seeing some of the episodes that have been taken down from the Official site, I recommend checking Watch South Park

did you notice on the site there are occasional commercials?
that means that they are still being lead around by the nose by the network.

23 months ago: I really liked your Gravity analogy. Islam is just as crazy, if not more so, than all other religions. Mocking them is even better because they become even more upset by the Characterization and mentioning of their "God". They threaten people to get their way, we should ALL Mock the Prophet Muhammad because he is a Giant Douche. Instead of putting him in a bear costume in the episode, they shou7ld have used the Giant Douche character from the Mascot episode. It would have incorporated even more Fan service into the purely fan service episodes, and made a nice statement to boot! Your Muhammad was a Giant Douche. The USA is now so afraid of offending these douchebags that if they attack us again, we'll most likely say, "Well, it's their culture, they are eccentric!"

I actually cannot wait to see "JC" it could be a good show. I love the idea. I mean, COME ON! Jesus is in New York HIDING from his dad, who is GOD!!! THAT will be Hilarious!
