The navy of North Korea, "the most isolated country in the world," has apparently attacked a South Korean ship near the DMZ border. Reports are sketchy, but as of 10 or 11 AM Pacific, the South Korean ship had sunk.

It's yet unknown what exactly has happened. Reuters is reporting that there was an explosion:

A South Korean naval ship is sinking near the maritime border with the North on Friday after possibly being hit by a torpedo and several sailors were killed, South Korean media reported.

The South Korean navy was able to save 58 sailors, but at least 46 are feared dead. The US and South Korean governments are holding emergency meetings to deal with the situation.

The South Korean ship-sinking incident is likely an instance of "saber rattling." North Korea will often flex its military muscles before diplomatic meetings.

But who knows what is really going on behind the razor wire? Very few journalists have been allowed into North Korea – when they do, they're given carefully planned tours that only show a saccharine-sweet version of the country.

YouTube doesn't even have a lot of videos about North Korea. This one, from Journeyman Pictures, states that the nationalistic public facade hides a sad, starving people. (It has quite a sarcastic tone.)

22 months ago: After reading the Reuters article, several questions come to mind:

"A defense ministry official later said that the unidentified object the vessel had fired at on Friday night near the western sea border that divides the two Koreas may well have been a flock of birds."

1) Are the South Koreans in the habit of firing on objects before they are identified?

2) Did they so enrage the flock of birds that the birds then attacked the ship, causing it to sink?

That is going to make the Feds a lot smaller around the world.

I tell it like it is, I pull no punches, tell no lies, and I am as I am.
